I currently use a Cicada CDA-3C as my main mech. She mounts two MG’s and a PPC. I thought the PPC would be the most useful weapon on there but the MG’s really tear stuff up. I can keep pace with a Locust or a Jenner and nail them with Machinegun fire until they explode. Against bigger mechs they can chew through armor just like you said. Demolition missions are a breeze since I can quickly move from target to target, completing missions in record time. Long live the Magine Gun!

I got the Mauler with 4x AC2 or MG hard points and I will definitely pull it out of storage to try AC 2 RF with it 😁

Some things about this: The displayed ranges on the HUD for the lasers are the ranges for maximum damage per shot. They can be fired outside of this range at reduced damage output to out distance slow or immobile enemies and get some damage in from outside of their engagement range. And it's generally more effective to chainfire lasers to destroy buildings more quickly.

To answer chat, the game ends about 1/2 a year before Tukayyid- where Jayden and Mia probably died in the Crusader ending, if not, within about 8 years, because Operation BULLDOG began in 3059, and Clan Smoke Jaguar was completely annihilated in 3060- as part of the Great Refusal. I love the air of tragedy built into this game, and the unique biases it facilitates unapologetically.

Isn't the DPS on the small lasers equivalent to the medium lasers? You sacrifice range but can still tear things up in a Firestarter or Discoback loaded up with small lasers.

Problem with all ACs in MW5 is their atrocious ammunition supply for the weight of the weapons. Anything ballistics can do, the PPCs can do better for less investment. Limited ammo works on the table top, but in a game with this kind of enemy density, it just means all ac’s are liabilities and that you basically can’t give them to the AI. An LRM 20 can fire 55 times per 1T of ammo, so give a boat 2-3T per launcher and you’re confident the AI won’t run dry in the longest of missions. 2T of AC20 ammo is 20 shots, which the ai wastes on vtol and tanks before you hit the objective. Wanna pull the trigger and see stuff take big hits? Run PPCs. Better to cool off than run out. IMHO, all ballistics need at least twice their current ammo per T to work in MW5. Even then the damage gain for the tonnage over medium laser spam (ai Lance builds) or ppc spam (player build) is underwhelming. 1 AC20 with 2T of ammo vs 2x PPC is… not favorable. Which is really upsetting cus I love ballistics in all games. I almost never use energy weapons, but at least I can console myself that the PPC is like… a fancy ballistic. It has travel time and hits all at once. It’s just… shinier.

Fun fact #1 - as he said it is a stream weapon, so unlike ac/lbx/gauss when you hit the max range the bullets go away, like a laser. Fun fact #2 - Machineguns and flamers have a massive buff vs structures, so you will oevel stuff faster with machine guns than with several ac2's. Late game with the Arrow may not be viable when you have missions with assaults as you are squishy, Dragons Gambit gave a hero Mauler, with 6mg's, 2 LL and 2 LRM 10 or 15's. It also has this cool fanged dragon mouth thing in the torso. This replaced the Battlemaster as the late game default base buster.

Also fun fact, the damage drop iirc is 30% and does NOT scale. It scales down that 30 between Optimum range and max range. Now i have tested this, projectiles will go until they clear the map or hit something, there is a bullet drop mechanic with hold over which does directly relate to projectile speed. I doubt you need a dope chart but hold over is a thing. Also the 1.6m spread is minuscule, because thats the width of most cars and mechs are far bigger, aim for CT and you will still hit just fine. Now that there are the RF versions, makes me want to add, im blanking on the variant number, the AHN with 10 ac2/RF's.

Im a huge BT fan, and so far im enjoying the channel, dont always agree with you on a weapons usefulness but who cares if everyone had the same opinion then wed all have full lances of AHN-5W's. Keep making them good and accurate and ill keep watching. Good work. LL, great fir range, great for solid but not scarey damage. In most people i have played with for long range energy there is a LL crowd and a POC crowd. Lasers you need to be better about staying on your target because the game will segment out damage based on the part and duration of the lasers burn. Some i know aim for high CT and sweep up to the head and burn the cockpit off, but if you prefer aiming like a not BF AC without the bullet drop, so if you hit your damage is RIGHT THERE the. PPC is for you.

I have been a BT fan since 94, LOVE this universe. In mw5, mlas was my goto constantly in the early game because its efficient and it works. Now i run several mods, most i made initially for bugs but then later my own pack that cover Helm Memory Core and Clan Invasion weos, but i find i still with all the new uber stuff out there find i have a versions of Mlas on everything that will accommodate it. Even when im cooping in great mechs like my buddy and i are in a twin lbx20 KGC and a twin UAC20KGC we both find our selves wanting 1-2 mlas, because you can pop turrets and small tanks and small helicopters so easy, less heat, and no ammo cost. I want one on everything.

Man, I really need to find someplace like that, I've always loved waterfalls. Something about the sound of rushing water, and the visual of it flowing down a cliffside/hillside is just very relaxing. But I totally get you on the job thing. I would love to be able to get a job, but it feels like no matter where you look, the jobs are fake hiring, or so utterly degrading that they expect you to throw your life away for pennies and rice. Getting away into nature where those worries dont exist definetly helps, and I am very fortunate to have plenty of woods surrounding me. Its nice to just listen to the wind and the branches and to forget, even if its for a moment, about everything going on outside of nature. I almost wish we could return to a more simple time, without credit scores and social media, without screens and cars. . . But then theres so much good and so many fun things that have existed because of it all. To quote a certain pirate: "If I could go back and make my amends, I'd make all those mistakes again."
