Man I wish I can do this stuff this is my mom's favorite car maybe in the future I can love the videos not gonna lie your videos are great I have been watching your videos since yesterday night and I'm already in love with your videos
Great design. Welding. Practice
Distinctive Industries suck! My 67 door panels was in that same condition plus half of the holes for the clips were not punched thru. Great videos ur making.
Bummer! Thanks for the support!
why not just using the new door instead of cutting it
hindsight, I should have!
Tha's a sweet headstock.
Thanks so much!
What happened to this series?
It was sidetracked by other projects. I'm still working on it though and filming for it, very slowly though
what sanding pads did you end up using for removing the rust and paint?
I used these Nylon Wheels from Harbor Freight! They worked the best. www.harborfreight.com/4-in-80-grit-nylon-abrasive-wheel-with-14-in-shank-60325.html?campaignid=19224063597&adsetid=141668267422&product=60325&store=577&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwufq2BhAmEiwAnZqw8tquPyvyO4Usqs2hmXMZSjXV8yoXJjLbnncdWBC5pZ46Q502GcAKtxoC1d8QAvD_BwE
Why didn't you put a new speedo bezel it would look so much better
I probably will in time, just wanted to try and get this thing on the road asap. Then I'll make all the fun mods as time goes on!
Yo man if your ever down in Huntington Beach area I can show my mustang for some inspiration and ideas you might not have thought about
Yeah man, that would be awesome! Thanks!
@VanHoutenBuilds did you have to modify the break lines to install the dual exhaust? Or did have dual exhaust already before? It looks like this kit just worked around it. I have a 64.5 project that I am working on and mirroring a lot of your projects.
Are you gonna paint the exterior as well I’m guessing white
I'm painting the exterior Caspian blue!
@@VanHoutenBuilds nice
@@VanHoutenBuilds Are you gonna do it yourself ?
@@tigerpaw5108 Yes, I'm painting it myself. Fingers crossed it turns out alright!
I did a Google search for re-profiling guitar necks and you turned up. Are you still building/modding/repairing guitars? It seems from your channel that you're mostly involved with cars.
I've kind of taken a break from guitar building and restoration for a bit, but I'll go back to them. Been wanting to try the car restoration thing for a while. Still heavily involved in the guitar world though!
What color is the going to be?
Caspian Blue!
Never saw an ET-200 in bare wood GORGEOUS! Mine was my only guitar for 13 years until it was stolen. I had to replace several of the lower frets as they wore down fairly easily. Glad to see you taking a budget guitar so seriously! They can actually be good players with a little attention.
Dude your not supposed to butt weld floorpans! Super sketchy you gotta overlap and spot weld . You have no structural strength like that! This is really unsafe!
You can butt weld floor pans, you don't have to lap weld them. Yes, they are stronger when lapped, but it looks much cleaner with a butt weld. They are more structurally sound than they were before. There's still plenty of structural strength with the trans/axle tunnel, rocker panels, and roof. I'm also going to be adding in unibody frame connectors anyways to stiffen things up a bit. Thanks for checking out my videos! I'll try lap welding next time.
Stay consistent with your uploads and this channel will blow up. Love the progress you have made on the Mustang.
I'm trying, thanks!
Are you OK VH?? Little worried you’ve been gone so long! Hope you are and loving the work on your Mustang!! Keep it up!!👍🏼
Yes, I'm good! Don't worry! Thanks, will do!
Dude the way you drag that guitar around on that wood table is driving me insane! But then I saw you putting those knots in your string and figured you just didn't know any better. I wish people would break the strings off at the post instead of leaving that little barb to stab yourself with. Just break the damn thing off! It will be fine
I was wondering where you were. Good to see you’re back and healthy.
Thanks!
What are the two songs you use called?
I use about 8 songs in the video. You'll have to be more specific? You can also use the shazaam app to figure out the songs!
Thanks so much!!
I love how the Mustang is coming along! What is your air compressor set up that you are using for your paint guns?
Thanks!I have the Fortress 27 Gal air compressor from Harbor Freight. I just waited to buy until it went on sale. It is enough to paint with, but you have to take your time. The only issue is that it constantly runs to keep up, which causes a lot of condensation in the line and so by the end of the job I've noticed I get moisture out of the sprayer, so you have to put on new water separators frequently
@@VanHoutenBuilds That sounds like a pretty decent size but it's a bummer it struggles to keep up. I've heard the moisture build up is a serious pain. Thanks!
@@jeremygarriga9623 Yeah I just bought a LPLV spray gun, so hopefully that will help since I'll be able to operate at a lower pressure.
Just curious what size compressor you have? I’ve been looking to paint my truck, but have been hesitant due to compressor size, or lack there of.

Looking good. Are the Eastwood sanding blocks not working anymore with the hose? I bought same setup but haven't used yet. Also looking at the speedokote as well. I have 1.4 nozzle so hoping it's good . Happy to see you back .
Thanks so much! They do keep the dust down, but the nozzle where the hose attaches constantly starts to pop off when sanding and the block also sticks and drags to the surface b/c of the suction. If you turn the suction down then the block won't really pick up any dust. So it was easier just to put the vacuum hose next to the block while sanding.
You have come a long way, good job. Glad you are well again.
Good job Sir. Come on down to Texas. I have my 66 mustang that needs a little paint TLC.
Sweet
I was a little worried because it had been a while, but the Mustang looks great! Glad your back! I can't wait to see what the color is going to be.
I'm a fan of milk paint... I've done tung oil over milk paint and that produces a very pleasant and durable matt finish
i don’t need to do a finish after sanding down if i don’t want to right ?
You don't have to, but you will eventually ruin the guitar neck over time if you don't. The open grain wood will degrade without some sort of protection from the oils sweat and moisture from your hand. I highly recommend oiling the open grain of the wood. You can use and oil that sinks into the wood like boiled linseed oil, to protect it.
@@VanHoutenBuilds oh i see, thanks
The dents in your trunk lid and the way that it fits isn't your car it is the trunk lid...we just put one on a 66 that had the same dents... From the same supplier. passenger side edge is rolled just like yours.
Very good video. Thanks for posting 👍
Get a new distributor cap too
Can i try coffee lol 🤔
That '65 Mustang is gonna be a beast when you're done! Loving the chaos, keep it up man
Thanks so much! Can't wait to get it back on the road!
I'm impressed with everything you do and your mechanical skills, but I'm surprised you don't fit brake boosters
Thank you so much! Reason I didn't put a brake booster on is that I wanted to feel the brakes a bit better and also not steal vacuum from the engine. If I don't like it, I'll end up changing it.
Hi I just recently became a rustang owner and I was wondering how do you decide what to do first and where did you get the information in the first place
Hey there! I would definitely recommend getting it running first, if it's not already running. Other than that, I did the interior first which in hindsight was probably not the best move. I should have done the exterior plus interior panel patching and metal/bodywork/painting, then put all of the interior back together last. I put the interior together first which has been a huge challenge having to pull parts back out and also trying not to get everything dirty on the inside. I'm going to do things that way on all future projects. Hope that helps!
@@HunterVanHouten another quick question, how much have you spent on the mustang so far?
@@GoobGloop The cost of the mustang was $5,900. Right now you can find one in better shape than mine for the same price or a little cheaper. At the time a year ago that was a better deal. I've probably dropped an additional $3K-4K on top of that in parts and supplies so far and I still have some things left to buy.
how all is well, looking to see your finished product. I'm working on Cowl now and then on to body work..
Hey Robby! Yeah everything has been going well. Just been busy with family vacation and travel for work. More videos are on the way real soon! It's getting so close to being finished. Are you replacing the cowl? If so, that seems like an intense process with so many spot welds to drill out and tack back down, but will definitely be totally worth it! I got lucky with mine not being in bad shape.
@@VanHoutenBuilds Yes, I'm heading that way now. Trying to get my channel up and going to video, but I usually get working and forget to hit record. haha. Can't wait to see your progress. I did my floors the way you did. after cowl is done, we dropping motor in for first start in over 15 years.
@@PistonWrenchCycle Thanks great! Yeah I feel like recording it all is the hardest most daunting part haha
Gorgeous guitar. Absolutely love the grain and color of the body and pickguard. Very simple and easy tutorial as well, I feel like I could do this fairly easily at least on my guitars that don't have heavy finish on the necks. One question - why only the top load option on the Tele? You can make it string through and still have a bridge that would let you top load if you wanted to. Starting to see more people top load Teles, I wonder if it makes it slightly more slinky?
Yeah I thought I'd try the top load just to see the difference on this one. Was also great not having to worry about drilling holes through the body and installing ferrules. It does have more of a slinky feel. I actually prefer it to the string through now. And on top of that it take a few seconds less to restring haha. Thanks for the kind words and for checking out my videos!
@@VanHoutenBuilds True, I didn't think about that extra step which is probably not so easy. I'll have to try it on mine, I have a bridge that will let me do either on my Tele. The scale length stays the same, so I would think the only change could be the tension, which seems like it would be less without that sharp angle over the barrel shaped saddles.
I have a custom shop and I’m starting to not like the tacky ness of the neck when I’m playing live from my sweaty hands. I want to do this but it’s a pretty light colored maple neck I don’t know if tobacco brown stain might be too dark for my neck
Don't use the stain then. Just use the Linseed oil/beeswax mix. It won't really darken it at all. It's more of a natural look.
@@VanHoutenBuilds cool I thought about trying that steel wolf thing but I’m not really that concerned with the looks as much as playability I wound up taking a green scotch bright pad and sanding it a little just to get that glossy tacky feel away. Plays way better now! Thanks for the info.
That is a 1964& half mustang. The first mustang with rectangle speedometer. 1965 and later they're round speedometers. Have fun🎉
Thanks! It's actually an early 65'! Door tag says she was born in April of 65. Had a mix of 64 and 65 original parts on it. It also would have said GEN instead of ALT on the instrument panel, b/c it would have come with a generator not an alternator. Mine is ALT.
Does it have a 260 or 298 ? I think the 64.5s had a 260.
@@TheSchmed It has a 302
@@TheSchmed think the V8 onions were the 260 or 289. Also think there was a 200 6cyl option.😁
These videos are awsome and always insipre me to work on my own mustang. btw, did you sand the inside of the roof in any way before spraying on the rustoleum? if not, any visuals on how it's holding up? thanks in advance!! keep up the great work!
Thanks! Yes, I sanded down the whole inside of the roof in order to get a good scuff so the paint would better adhere. I used fiber and nylon wheels from harbor freight, just used them in a power drill. I also focused more heavily on the rusted areas. The rustoleum is holding up really well. The rust reformer is really good stuff after it's had time to properly cure!
A guitar is like a belt in karate U don't go from white to black without putting in the practice
Excelente video!!
That's a really cool idea to grout out a spot of the head stock for decal placement! Kudos! 👏
If Summit Racing screwed up the onus should be on them to make it right. Too late I know, but I would be raising hell with any supplier that did what Summit has done.
I'm overhauling one of these currently. It was a $60 late night fast-food parking lot pickup, overpainted by an autobody guy, and it's been my throw around, parts always broken slammer for years. About to add a Guyker tremelo TM85 and roller bridge GM005 setup. Have you run into any tips on drilling for the bushings? I've heard the scale length is 24 5/8" , and to use a 3mm lower offset from the low E anchor to the high E. Other adds: Tesi killswitch, 18k high output double dual-rail hot rail pickup, 500k pots, and stereo output jack.
I can't remember what the scale length is on these, but measure from the nut to the 12th fret and double it to get the scale length. All of those mods/upgrades should definitely help! When drilling for the bushings on any guitar it's super important to use a drill press so that you get straight holes. Put painters tap down before you drill to make your marks on. Measure a bunch of times to ensure you have the correct points. Add a little bit of dove soap bar to the bushings to make them press in easier. Check out my saved stories on instagram, I have a whole tremelo system installation on my page that should help!
Man I thought I had this, I'm freaking cooked.
Are the E-100s always sunburst? I have one but its been painted...and not even a cool color like seafoam green
Yeah, unfortunately I think most of them are burst. Personally I'm not the biggest burst fan, so I'm always for painting!
I would have left those seats red, that paint will probably be chipping after one summer.
