Hello everyone,
Last march, I lost my beloved grandma. I was really close to her and she was a pillar in our family. Before flying back to France for the funeral, my dad asked me to grab my camera and to do my best capturing the house and its atmosphere where he and my two other aunts grew up.
I hope you will enjoy this peaceful video.

Sharing this plane crash RnD made a year ago. I was studying how to achieve an interesting look that would not take too much time. Overall, it took ~5h to sim everything (I9 / 64 GB RAM / RTX 2080 ti), the same wide shot simulation is used for the close up shot that looks low rez. Using Houdini apprentice, I couldn't go really high in terms resolution, it was about ~5mn a frame. Hope you will a...

I have a 3060ti with 32 gb ram been using real flow for a while, but been also learning Houdini for a while too is , is Houdini too hungry on ram or vram? Which one does it need the most for more particles, I can’t go over 800,000 it stops caching
Hello Joseph, 800k and it crashes? Sounds weird to be honest. is it crashing in realflow? never encountered that issue when using realflow in the past. Houdini is a tool massively used in production and with the spec you wrote above, you shouldn’t crash with 800k particles even with 32gb.
@@francoisgodofe no the crashing was in Houdini, iv never really had crashing issues in real flow, so always thought it had to do with my ram, thought it wasn’t enough or something was doing a granular sim and each time I make particles over 600k it would cache until the 30th Frame that’s where the monster was emerging out of the granular sand then it would stop on 30, since I don’t know Houdini that much, I assumed it was less ram…
@@josephnjovuvisuals hmm possibly, you should monitor your ram when doing the sim to be sure this is because of that. These days, 32gb can be “ low “, but again, with 800k particles it’s way enough. Houdini can handle a lot. try downloading the latest apprentice Houdini on the side fx website if your Houdini is outdated and see if you have the same issue. Maybe that will lead you somewhere
Rock on🙂💎
Thank you
Thank you.
Very impressive!!
Thank you Nicolas
I'm numb with the bluescreen haha
You might be part of the 0.1% who actually read it 😅
truly, you are best of the best... may i ask you i 60 fps? and shutter speed?
Hello Luky, thank you very much. Some shots were filmed in 24fps and 60fps. The shutter speed is for the most part 180 degrees.
I actually watched this on my 4k 27inch monitor, your right 🤩
Straaaaaaax
this is gorgeus
True fx artist right here!
Holyshit man amazing! You inspired me man fr fr
Very cool result)! Godzilla shots look epic. How long have you been doing VFX? I'm sure Houdini was used to the fullest extent here) did you study it yourself or maybe some courses/schools you went through?
Hello Nazar, thank you :) I have been working in the visual effects industry for several years now. There is different packages/ plugins used in there, Houdini, 3Dsmax etc… I went to an animation school making my first steps in CG back in 2010 if not wrong. In the meantime I was slowly learning FX on my spare time.
Bravo François !!! Tu sais combien j'aime tes réalisations. Premier court métrage réalisé est une réussite.
Merci 🙌
Hello !👍👋Bravo! C'est très bien fait . Un talent à exploiter à fond!!

Thank you Cody :)
What was ur resolution in camera and in timeline settings ?
amazing work bro , can i ask you , do you just make this in houdini or you did that in houdini and export this to nuke ? i want to know how you can work with real footage
Hey Mbazan, thank you first, This showreel represents my FX work, I did not make the whole picture. It's a team work with layout / modeler / track / CFX / Lighter / Look Dev / compositor / matte painter artists and so much more people I just forgot to mention. To answer your question, we generally make the FX, hand it off to the lighting department, they render it and the compositors in Nuke work with those 2D render passes in order to composite the final picture. thanks!
@@francoisgodofe Such an easy digestible summary of the professional process. You're part is only one of many done by other competent talented artists. I love the collaborative nature of these large projects and the end result is wonderfully refined. Logistically, I find it fascinating the process of employing all of these artists together in such a seamless environment. Your work is greatly appreciated, excellent!
wow so beautifuly done artwork and hardwork at its best

Thanks Oliver! I’m sure you’re going to do great for your film :)
May i know how many experience did you gain. to do this amazing reel🤩🙌
Hello Poludasu, thank you for your comment. Well, you get the experience over the years, a lot of dedication and having really talented colleagues sharing their experience as well. And slowly you grow! I wish you the best!
Did u use any luts?
Hi, I didn't
Where to start learning VFX to create something like this? I really want to connect my life with such an incredible VFX. This showreel is very cool and very inspiring. Incredibly talented guys, thank you!
Hello rmz, thank you for writing this nice comment. It’s a progressive curve, start learning the basics of CG ( some modeling / shading / lighting for example ) if you don’t know them already. And then little by little, learn simple things in FX, understanding vectors for example, you will make a lot of things moving in a 3D space and it’s gonna be really important. Then you will progress faster than you think. Good luck :)
@@francoisgodofe Thank you very much for your reply! I am honored to read this comment from such a talented person, it gives me great motivation. Thank you again!
