Austrian Early Buildup in Victoria 3: A Kafkaesque Run
Austria looks forward! Looking backwards is only necessary when collecting evidence against dissidents! No, Austria must progress, and to do so, it must plan out its economic growth. Fortunately, it has deep reserves, owing to its ancient imperial holdings. The mortgages on the castles will handily help finance the investments in coal and steel...

Preparing for Big Germany Unification in Victoria 3

I'm part of the Old Guard of wargamers that used to do this stuff on tabletops back in the 1970s. :-)
So canonicly that would make the player "E" the protagonist or the strong father figure?
I feel like a strong father figure and I don't want to turn into an insect, so I'll opt for the latter.

Ah yes the city of «V» in the state of «A», famous for composers like «W.A.M.» and psychoanalyst «S.F.»
Indeed. I've enjoyed strolling the boulevards of "V", listening to the music of "J.S. II" as I walk along. And the ferris wheel in "P" is quite enjoyable.
Can't you continue the Brazilian run?
I'll need to go back to it since I had some major mod changes with 1.8.3, so my old save isn't compatible. I will likely go back there to try the cheesy strategy of getting rid of slavery right away, so I can grow my pops faster. :-)

Happy turkey day, and thanks for the downloadable mod list! With 1.8.3 and this, I've got my winter weekend plans sorted.

HELL YEAH, thank you so much economist, one thing I always try to do is to compete with the USA. Now with your help I can probably be even better as brasil!
Another comment was about picking a fight with UK as soon as possible so they demand banning slavery, then folding to the UK demands. Solves the slavery issue very quickly.

Rice and fish are the path up with Japan, or so I'm told. 😊
I know its a little bit late now and a bit cheesy, but if you bankroll Austria after a unification play and get relations up they will literally support you fully integrating them with no war!
Which did happen in a later play. Makes me want to reverse that in an Austrian game.
@@An_Economist_Plays haha, good to know. Its definitely far easier as Austria at least in vanilla since they are a better nation at start and scale really well compared to Prussia pre-unification
Silly secession blocker mod is a must. Those secessions looping and looping, the angry people yelling over and over again almost made me go insane. I can arrange a good mod list and the order aswell, I love these videos, thank you! edit: 1.8.3 is out, I would guess that only 2 of your mod list are no longer viable, them being: Silly Secession Blocker and Silly Migration Blocker. Would you agree with me?
I will need to check on those mods, but would expect them and the naval battle one to get hotfixes.
Is this also applicable to the Netherlands?
I would say so, especially with their Indonesia holdings.
could you make a series on EIC with its new updates? I find it so hard to keep it together and not become the Raj and keep the plebs happy. Perhaps utilitarianism in a chartered company is not feasabile. Something to explore maybe??
There are also the demands from England that compete for priority, it is a real juggling act for sure!
As soon as your initial wars end, declare a diplomatic play against Britain for the Guyanas. They will demand ban slavery instead. Back down and you'll ban slavery, plus gain an event where you get 80 relations with the Brits for ending transatlantic slave trade, making the diplomatic hit of the play actually positive. This makes liberalizing and industrializing early way easier!
A "Mouse That Roared" move, I like it!
Not sure if it would be one you'd enjoy but it would be interesting to see you try to hold together, and then reform and liberalize the East India Company!
That one would be a juggling act, for sure!
if you complete the monarchism journal and the emperor dies, you get one of the best governors to enact multiculturalism and woman suffrage.
So it's a matter of waiting, then?
Very nice. I was playing with Brasil yesterday while trying to get the Estado Novo achievement. It's difficult, but rewarding.
Dude I just love your Prussia runs, I wouldn’t complain at all 😆. Also a great subversion would be to play Austria and unite Germany, to be make it more realistic maybe you could (once you unite Germany) vassalise Galicia for Poland and maybe Ukraine, Transylvania for Romania, south Slavs (except Slovenia) for the kingdom of Illyria. In this way, in terms of rp, you add these countries into your market/sphere of influence without having to destroy the integrity of German unification, just a little idea 😁. Happy thanksgiving 😉
Hehehehe... Austria...
Did Central America stay together? With that and the US getting all of Oregon, it's quite the blessed Americas run. Looking forward to learning some tips and tricks from you in 1.8.
Yes, somehow Central America held together there.
Can you make a collection and put it in the description so other people like myself could download it :)
Steam collections are a thorn in my side for maintaining, it's much easier to maintain my list on my Discord server. I can post the JSON file there, one can import it into the Steam Launcher for Victoria 3, and get the mods that way. The load order is also preserved that way, which helps with the mods running properly.
Thank you, there are many that I didn't know I needed before!
TH-cam must read my mind. I've been playing Victoria 3 a lot recently and currently study economics, and one day thought about how interesting it'd be to see an economist play this and give his thoughts. And here we are now, this being suggested to me!
Here we are now. :-)
This year, I'm thankful for An Economist Plays' 1.8.2 Mod List.
Have you checked Ludis Balanced history mod ? Would that be something to add to the mod list?
This is a kind of question I'm often asked. Larger mods tend to be more difficult to update after a major revision in the game, and then they potentially clash with other mods doing similar things. So, I tend to not get into those mods.
Hmm..looks like i might have to get some mods in :) Im still lerning this game so i still a n00b in some areas, my main problem is getting the start*ing economy going playing "Dennark" not many out there wanna play that and the few vids out there is kinda outdated. I know denmark is hard to get going because i lack alot of resources, but thats the challenge, but not many seems to wanna do it, i try my best, but like i said theres still alot of mechanics i dont really understand yet, so i make many mistakes etc.
Small countries are definitely tricky matters to get right, especially after customs unions got nerfed in 1.7.
God I love your videos, my only note as someone more from a history background (I'm sure you know most of this but for people who are interested in British history here is some fun elaboration)- Scotland was actually a massive prospering hub of both industrial and trade boons during the Victorian Era. The country turned from a rural backwater to becoming colloquially known as the workshop of the British Empire (something the game very sorely failures to model imo). This is a big reason why Scotland eventually become a mainstay as a consistent liberalising force in British politics from the extremely large urban proletariat and trade union movements that developed there. The more urban and centralised Scottish peoples were rather insulated to the sorts of discrimination other ethnic groups in the Empire faced but the Scottish Highlanders were the ones who got massively shafted and faced constant discriminsation and demonisation even from the rest of Scotland, they became a core driving force of mass emigration from Scotland to Australia, New Zealand and America. There was of course still a hand on the scale that Westminster and the English by large still had final say over the entire empire but it was definitely a much more amicable relationship between the Scottish and English than for the Irish and English. It's why Scottish independence wasn't really considered a real populist movement until the mid 20th century. For a lot of Scotland the imperialist globe spanning British Empire was just as much an economic boon for them as it was for the English.
Thanks for adding that information, I appreciate it!
Have you checked out the Victorian Flavor Mod? I never played a full playthrough of a game with it because I prefer vanilla usually but I think it's very cool.
It's one of those big box mods that clashes with lots of the quality of life mods I'm very much in love with.
Economist, I dont want to appear as offensive or annoying but could you pls make a Brazil series or make it in the future?
My nephew is in Brazil now, so why not?
Jeez why is the The Great Revision Series: Production & Trade putting the base construction at 50 from 10 lmao that's crazy
It's getting some tuning as a result of playtesting. 😊
@@An_Economist_Plays In that case i also have some concerns about Less productive subsistence, im pretty sure paradox had to buff them because everyone in decentralized powers just starved to death and then there would be no pops, i tested it and surely enough the birthrate is negative everywhere in Africa at game start with that mod :/ The dividend ban for peasants while it makes sense it kinda cuts the progress of low literacy countries at game start in this patch, with homesteading enacted in vanilla i can set high taxes for a few years without radicals increasing like crazy since they get a shiton of SOL from the dividends and while yea at game start it's a pain to get workers i usually sort it out in the first 5 years with the social promotion decree and religious schools. I only play in Ethiopia so im used to suffering from those issues. There's other mods i just plain removed since they change the game too much imo but keep up the mod list update it's very useful this by no means is a critique btw thanks for all the hard work ! :D
@@SpartaaaaaaaaaaaPT that's some great feedback to consider, especially after the changes in pops with 1.8.
Time to go mod shopping! Agree on the journal entries being used to 'guide' the AI, hopefully that's something Paradox is looking into... after warfare, diplomacy, and a few other things. My only disagreement is on using the 'upgrade all' mod. The way I see it, since a torpedo boat or a modern battleship take the same amount of time to build in the construction queue, I'm not building the ships, but housing for the crew. Therefore, there is no issue just hitting a button to 'upgrade' the housing. The actual ship goods (hull, guns etc) will get consumed by the unit and not the building, so I say go nuts with that upgrade button!
Oooooohhh I have permission!
Just came across your channel, only to find out that my mod has a spot on your playlist! I am glad to encounter a fellow political map enjoyer, and I appreciate the inclusion!
Awesome! And thanks for modding!
Thanks for the shout-out! Just Omani Kenya is a simple mod that I created back in July because OPB's VTM wasn't updated to the latest patch. The border change makes so much sense that idk why Paradox hasn't done it themselves lol.
I know! It's in Vicky 2, for goodness' sake!
