Save Money: Buy Grain In Bulk
Buying in bulk will save you money. $5-$10 here and there will add up at the end of the year! I talk about how we are saving $370 each time we buy goat grain in bulk and break down the math for you. I also give a few updates about the farm.

Blizzard First Kidding July 2022
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
PLEASE READ: This is from July 2022. Blizzard was a first time freshener here, and she had quite a long labor process. She had contractions in the afternoon, but it was not until the next morning that I noticed her start having strong contractions with pushes. Her kid needed one leg pulled forward. I believe she was fully capable of birthing him without assistance. It was a minor reposition. SO...
Raising The Roof On Goat The Shelter
มุมมอง 234ปีที่แล้ว
I talk about our chickens and think up ways to improve the coop to prevent losing a bird to fighting through the walls. Then, I show off Shamrock's baby belly and discuss the goat pregnancies. At this time, I was not sure who was bred yet. After all that, we get into raising the height of the largest goat structure we have built so far. No more heads getting concussions with this shelter now! T...

Reba's Kidding in April 2022: Mini Nubian Kids

Reba was a first time freshener this year (first time mom). Her "mini" boys (Nigerian Dwarf sire) were bigger than I expected. As big as a standard Nubian kid, if not a little on the larger side... Thank you in advance for feeling sympathy for her and showing your love for my animals with your comments of concern in my kiddi...

GRAPHIC! 1st Time Goat Mama, Bambi, Surprises Us With Triplets!! (And a rectal prolapse...)
มุมมอง 1.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
FULL GRAPHIC KIDDING!! Don't watch if you can't handle birth stuff. Bambi kidded on April 24th. I never would have thought she would have TRIPLETS. I guess that proves she is a long bodied goat who hides her pregnancy well. First two were trying to beat each other into the outside world...Third one was upside down. #1 is the doeling I named Cinnamon Bun. #2 and #3 are bucklings I named Cayenne ...
Shamrock's 2nd Kidding. Meet the Triplets!
มุมมอง 35K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Shamrock rocks her second labor. First up is a doeling. The next two are bucklings. Meet Cowgirl, Fable, and Buckaroo Boots. Blue eyed beautiful versions of Shamrock and Cowboy (sire). Despite some malpositions, Shamrock has no issues. She passed three placentas by the end of the night. A very great kidding to start the year.

She does not always lay in pee. It seems to be more common in the winter when she sleeps in the shelter. I have not noticed it while milking her. I always clean their udder and teats before milking. There is no affect on the flavor of the milk.

That sounds frustrating! We wish things could be good for at least a few months, right? Had enough of the health issues lately... It COULD be dietary. They could be overeating pasture or be reacting to something like too much protein in their diets. Back to parasites. Sometimes they can spread coccidia to each other. A warm, humid or wet environment is also a good environment for parasites. Other parasites can also cause scouring, so I recommend running a fecal to see what is in there. That way, you know what dewormer/treatment to use. Coccidia need a different treatment than barberbole or roundworms for example. If your goats have mineral deficiencies, they can become more susceptible to parasites. I feed mine Sweetlix Meat Maker. Some do Purina Wind and Rain. A few other good ones out there as well. I also give Replamin Plus gel between two crackers at least once a month (more if anyone has a faded coat, hoof issues, or parasites). Hope this is helpful! There could be more going on that parasites, so your goats might have a weakness to them or not. I would keep a record for awhile to watch this. I would take in a fecal to a vet, mail it to Meadow Mist labs, or try a fecal yourself if you know how for your worst goats or youngest goats. If you see high counts, then all your goats should be treated in that group. I know some people pick a couple goats at random, collect stool samples, and run a fecal to see how their herd health is doing.

Some goats simply dont care but some goats need to not be bothered and in the quiet. Then again some one you next to them the whole time. Just a tip…love the video…God Bless

      @rcornerranch8829 2 ปีที่แล้ว

First time fresheners/kidding for the first time can take a bit longer for things to happen. Many take up to 12 hours. There's a difference between contractions while labor is progressing and the pushes a goat has when they are giving it their all to push a kid out. Nothing you can do but wait for things to come along as her cervix dilates, and she gets ready. If you go in too soon to assist, their cervix isn't dilated enough, so you just need to be patient unless something is wrong. I made note of the time in my head to prepare for when I might need to glove up and go in. Most of the video, her contractions get stronger and stronger. Completely normal. She was not acting like labor was stalled, or she couldn't get one out. THEN, of course, you go in. I did help pull the kid's other foot forward for the second one. First one came completely normally. All went well. Two healthy doelings. No real big repositions needed to get the kids out.

She was negative for everything the lab tested for. Still had issues the next time she kidded, but she gave us a wonderful buckling before complications (retained placenta, not eating, and organ failure) took her from us. Learned a lot after that and decided to have more supplies and knowledge to tackle future issues. As a livestock owner, I am their #1 caretaker. Not enough vets have great knowledge of goats, which is very difficult with new restrictions on purchasing any antibiotics for animals without a vet.

Honey, now I feel so stupid for my other comment on your nubian (? Spelling) giving her first birth. You sounded so nervous I was trying to get you to relax a bit. I thought you were going to have a breakdown, lol! But now I'm seeing you have gone thru kidding b4, so I apologize if it seemed like I was coming off it- all because I'm far from that!!! I have never even owned a goat. I've got 80 acres and not one farm resembling animal on it! When I was younger, yes, I did have a bunch of animals, but now I'm too old to keep up with them, rotf! So I do apologize ma'am for my other comment! I'm sure you enjoy all your fur babies! They're all so adorable!!!! And the moms are awesome special these 2 here! Treasure is like "I've got you're back sis. What have you named Mr.BigBoy and I haven't yet watched this whole video yet so I'm wondering what you've named them. Do you sell your kids? That's something I couldn't do, I'd miss them way too much lol! Ok I'm near the end of this video! This one is great, well they all have been great. She's going to be one of those moms that won't feed the kids until she's had them all.

    • @rcornerranch8829

First off, thank you for apologizing! I have had a couple very criticizing comments. That is not what my channel is about. I am new to the farm world and wanted to honestly share my experience. Plus, the kidding videos up currently are from last year. People don’t wait until the end to comment, as though this is a live stream. Just a long video! Haha. There will be times when I will seem stressed because it is NOT all sunshine and rainbows. A lot of people making videos have more experience when they make videos, but you are seeing the start of the farm and the channel. My reactions are spur of the moment because it is happening right then. I can’t go back and edit myself to different. I am sure I am going to be wrong about things sometimes. I want to be honest, so other people can learn as I do. You know what I mean? I ended up with live, healthy kids. Must not have done too bad. I can’t edit out the excitement when a goat is in labor. I am kinda passionate sometimes! I wait 145-155 days for them to kid and find out what lives they have been carrying. I also just love my animals. I don’t know how the labor is going to go until it is over. When you have goats, you will lose goats. You don’t know when, why, or how. I lost Treasure last October 6 days after she kidded even though I took her to a university. One live buckling and two mummies. The vet still doesn’t know exactly what went wrong. She retained her placenta, stopped eating, and went into organ failure despite efforts to save her. I wasn’t happy with the vet care. I learned to educate myself and stock up on medicines and be ready to treat them as best as I can if a vet says they don’t normally do this or that for goats (when I knew they were wrong). I follow some online resources for goat people and feel I have learned quite a bit. I know I really might have lost Buckwheat if I hadn’t assisted Flora. Only head presenting large bucklings have cost many inexperienced people to lose their dam and kids. I am a lot calmer now, I think, since I succeeded with him. But it can be so stressful! Plus, I had family visiting who were asking questions and edited out a lot of Flora struggling. I was kind of overstimulated. Her previous owner told me Flora’s dam lost her kids once because she didn’t dilate right during labor, and she didn’t assist soon enough. I had that weighing on my mind. I named the big baby Buckwheat. He was my first real reposition. It is different when you are in the moment and have to apply what you learn and hope you are doing things right. I named the doeling Barley. Buckwheat was sold to a new home, and I made a friend out of the transaction. I have met some wonderful people selling and buying goats. Flora is due May 2 with her next kids. I am hoping to have Shamrock’s 2nd kidding vid up today. Reba and Bambi are also due soon and will have their own kidding videos up afterwards. I hope you watch those and see how this little corner of the world has grown!
