I’m away from my studio right now, but after watching your video it occurred to me to use it to shape the characteristics of strings by tweaking the harmonics. I use the Studio Strings in Logic Pro and the Spitfire BBC core, and I think this will help make them more natural sounding! TY!
the worst keyboard, regret for buying it....😕
Good stuff.
I think you are a very naturally gifted teacher.
No human being can read those subtitles as quick as they were going on screen…🤪 Otherwise, CSS and Chamber is the ultimate combo!
Really good video - and also agree with the ARA comment
Hello, your tutorials are very good. But unfortunately you forgot the most important thing here. Gain staiging only works if you first activate the "Pre-Fader Metering" function in the control bar so that you can see the input signal of the mixer channel. Otherwise you cannot perform gain staiging, OK? Best regards
till you put all these parameters a session musician will record 30 times fastr a piano line that is unique and has a real human touch
Exactly! If you can’t play bass or have a bass player for example, it’s a good substitute. But for me, just playing it in will be so much faster
@@DIDCHOI or just to have another perspective because you don’t have the creativity or the bass part for a bass player to play on the track
First person I've seen to call it non sturdy and plastic.

New to logic and loved it.
It’s a great piece of software!
Great teaching skills, nice humble guy. Thanks.
Aw thank you!!
I just bought the M-audio oxygen pro 61.... im a newb, was hoping for instructional video on this keyboard, theres none out there... how eavh button and knob work and what they are used for.... Theres nothing and I am clueless!! I bet you would get a huge following if you did videos on how to use everything!! Thankyou
Stem splitter in logic worked perfectly for me.
Just got hip to your channel. Definitely going to follow. I brought up how AI could render some positions more and more obsolete over time on NPR a few days ago. I think this is a next step in that evolution. For good or for bad.
Sharing is caring, cheers from Brazil.
I can't hear a difference. I have Logic, and RX10 Standard. The RX11 sounds about the same as I'm used to with RX10. It is helpful for me. I shometime shoot live bands with a nice stereo mic on my camera, then I master the audio. I've improved the mix by separating the stems in RX then bringing up the vocal a little. So you can improve a crappy capture a little. I've also heard that these work better on NON-MASTERED MIXES. The Queen track is a mastered mix.
Good point, perhaps without mastering it could do a better job! Will have to give it a try when I get time.
@@DIDCHOI I did just watch a video comparing RX10 to 11 Rebalance, and 11 does sound better. So I'll probably use Logic to split out stems. I don't want to pay 100.00 to upgrade RX. Their improvements were incremental at best this time.
@ChadWork1 very true. I was on 9 so I upgraded, but not a huge difference to need updating every version
Do you know why they’re smart artifacts when you’re doing this stuff because whoever mixed it you’re gonna have more artifacts it depends on the mixing if somebody mix it good they’re gonna have less artifacts it’s all about the mixing if you mix it good you will have less artifacts but if you have a shitty mix, you have more artifacts😊
Depends on the style of music. It’s especially harder with cymbals cause in non jazz styles, cymbals are washy and wide spectrum, not mixed to be clear and distinct.
@@DIDCHOI I guess it could be both🤷♂️😊
@@DIDCHOI Right you're going to get bleed from most of the tracks especially at the higher frequencies no matter what ... At least from the technology that Logic is using to build this feature. You're never going to get 'a good mix' that just simply isolates every track from certain frequencies .. Instruments share frequencies unless you're making some weird , non traditional kind of music.
Great video! What IR did you use with the K&K? It sounds amazing?
It’s a custom IR I made with the guitar itself and a Rode NT1A
@@DIDCHOI do you have it available for download?
I'm into Extracting Guitars from Songs, So I went with Steinberg's Spectralayers 10 instead......
Don’t have any experience with it myself, but cool!
I would like to see a video on how you make these videos, lol I’m learning Final Cut and would like to make this type of video! Thanks!
Hahaha, it’s a total rodeo every time honestly. Figuring things out as I go. Maybe after a few years I’ll feel qualified enough to make a video on my video workflow hahaha
You’re a smart kid!
Hahaha thank you 🙏
Thanks for the comparison. I was a fan of iZotope and used their products in my video editing workflow for about seven years. However, I got lost when they started offering various bundles and complex marketing. I almost bought the wrong product-a music bundle with a limited version of RX. I updated RX until version 9, but the latest update doesn't add anything for me. iZotope needs to adapt quickly as AI is advancing fast. There are already websites that perform better in isolation. I wish iZotope success and hope their next version impresses again.
Honestly, I am quite disappointed with this Stem Splitter tool. It's pretty same as Izotope's one, so nothing new or better, maybe the benefit using Stem Splitter in Logic is - processing speed, how fast stereo mix is being split into those different tracks, but other than that, pretty much meeh thing, I only see the use of this tool is for purely music education purpose, when you need to figure out how musicians played different parts. But what really shocked me in a good way - Session Players' integration into Logic 11. It's bloody good. I saw your previous video where you were asking yourself if you use this for professional setting, and you said no. Well, for me I would say yes and no. No, because you can't simply write music with given generated pattern, but also yes, because you can modify the session player's track to make more sense to your actual arrangement and save plenty of time not having to program, for an example, drums for few hours. So it does save a lot of time, and for professionals - it's the most important thing.
Great points! Stem splitter is a good first step, but will need many iterations to get any better I suspect. Session players, I meant I wouldn’t use because I’d always favour real instruments, even if it’s just me playing each. But for what it is they have fantastic quality!
Awesome, I’d love to see a comparison to Gaudio and Lalalai
Don’t have much experience with those unfortunately but definitely curious how they compare
Shift-Tab to go backwards.
Nice, that's a good one. Find anything on progressing by beat or 2 beats?
@@DIDCHOI Sorry, no. Just know the move by 1 or 7 measures move. Still learning. Keep up the great work!
Excellent video. Please create more of these exploring different genres.
That’s a fun idea!
I dont understand. can this session player add to an already made melody? Or do I always have to start with its suggestions? If it does not add to my melodies chords that make sense then this feature is idiocy.
They play to the chords you input. It does have some AI "following" tools where if you set an audio file as a reference, it'll analyze the rhythms and mirror that feel. Session players don't generally play the melody anyways. If you want specific lines, counterlines, etc, you should do that manually, or use a real player which is obviously more ideal.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
It's sound amazing
Thanks!!
Thanks. As expected the auto parts (it isn't AI) don't relate to the leads (the music's story). So it all sounds random and chaotic. :-)
It is AI driven. I didn't stretch the functionality that much, but there is more computation than the previous drummer for example
@@DIDCHOI I just don't think any of this is in any way intelligent - Weak AI at best - more pattern regurgitation. It is the marketing buzzword tho so... The algo simply can't understand context. AI pics have too many fingers and keyboards never have proper octaves because the algo has no idea why I want to hold someone's hand or rock and roll all night. I appreciated you showing where the software was at tho so again thanks :-)
You're a very pleasant and good teacher. This is the first video I see from you and I'm almost instantly convinced to subscribe to your TH-cam Channel to see more of you. Yes, you deserve succes and respect, the world needs people like you. Keep going and thanks a lot 💯🙏🏼✌🏼

Woah... Man that gospel style take sounded great. Keep rocking man ❤
It's pretty cool. Definitely has it's use case
nice video. Is it okay to practice piano with semi-weighted keys?
If you're serious about piano, I wouldn't recommend it. As a hobby, I suppose so.
Awesome, thanks for the review. I'm considering getting one of the Keylabs with orchestra stuff in mind as well - did you like the faders when you had them or did you feel like it still might be helpful to have something separate (with a longer throw)? Thanks!
I used the onboard faders. Personally, a longer throw doesn't feel too necessary. Might be nice to have the option of both though if money isn't an issue.
Thanks for pointing that out. I've done some work with Cubase and there are expression maps for each library that you can import to Cubase and it automatically populates the articulations and if you need to edit them you can open up each expression map and change the CC / Key switch, or add additional, etc. Does Logic gives visual feedback for the articulation that is being assigned to each note like a playing technique track as a sub-track drop down?
The GUI is not very good. But yes, in the editor (piano roll), the side, there is a drop down menu with all the articulations. If you select the note, it shows which articulation is selected. So it's more note based than phrase-based.
Wow! This was amaaaazing!! You should teach orchestration in TH-cam or even a paid only website or something. I'm just in the very beginning of orchestration and sometimes I have good ideas for melodic phrases with emotional expressions and I may have a few phrases of accompaniments added and a bit of expansion of the idea but pulling it together to build such a coherence story while you are going to so many diverse phrases of creating unease, playful, ominous, etc. yet knowing how and when to bring it back to the familiar ground. I would personally love to learn that. Thank you!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Definitely lots of different things going on in this piece! I would recommend score-reading the works of the masters! Will help more than online courses IMO.
Hi. Sounds very nice. I watched a few of your other videos. So you composed this in Sibelius and then printed the parts for the musicians? Although you have sample libraries too so do you sometimes have musicians to play it, and sometimes just resort to the sample libraries depending on the project budget I guess?
Bingo! It's all about what the music is for. And the genre. If it's for a synth-heavy piece, no reason to start in notation, just straight to the DAW. If it's Holst level orchestration, my brain prefers notation to piano roll every time.
Hello. Thanks for the useful feedback. I didn't quite get your workflow. You were talking about the sample playability, quality, etc. but you said for composing in the notation software, you prefer just Note Performer. So when do you use notation software and when do you use a DAW (I suspect that's where you use the high quality samples). Also if the computer needs to load 30+ gigs of samples for your DAW, having the same sort of resources loaded for Sibelius probably shouldn't make that much difference in overall resource use, and if your computer handles DAW and massive sample load, it will probably handle Sibelius or Dorico and the same massive sample load. You can tweak switching articulations, expression, etc. within Dorico by changing cc in the playing techniques track as well as being picked up by the articulation symbols added and the way the expression map is populated with all the possible articulations and their corresponding key switches and cc values (I imagine it is the same in Sibelius) so in reality, I don't think it is that much different composing in tracks and piano roll in DAW or building your instruments and players and entering notes, etc. in the score in notation software. Of course for mixing, DAW has much more things to offer so I imagine ideally you start from notation and once the info for the scores and playing techniques addressed, you import it to the DAW for further mix, right? If that's not your workflow, please explain. Thanks.
Hi, great question. If I'm writing complex orchestral stuff, I much prefer organizing things with notation. But the most important part of determining my workflow is the end result. If I'm looking to record or perform my music, I write in score, and if I need a mockup, generally NotePerformer is fine. If I work in the DAW, that's because the mockup might be the end result, I'm writing with more synths, effects, audio files, or some similar situation. Sure Dorico or Sibelius can handle samples, but what if I want to record myself playing Acoustic Guitar? It's just a different space and mindset. I don't use samples in my Notation programs cause it'll bog down the computer, while something like NotePerformer allows me to have all 50+ tabs or whatever open on my browser, Netflix playing on the side, blah blah blah, and no hot computer haha. Nothing wrong with using samples with notation, but that's just not something that is necessary for me as it walks the line between notation and realistic mockups.
Thanks for the review. Sorry it is not really related with the keyboard review. Which sound library do you use that has Sforzando?! I was looking for one and couldn't find it. Also I noticed you didn't map Crescendo and Diminuendo (possibly could be mapped to the bottom row?) unless you just use the velocity change instead of sampled one due to timing issue? How about other articulations, con sord, tenuto, sul pont, vibrato, trills, etc.? 16 pads are excellent for those quick switching between the articulations. Most keyboards have only 8 pads.
Sforzando is in the Cinematic Studio and OT Berlin Series libraries. Although it's not that much of a sforzando, and more like a portato/marcato. You could definitely add more options and fill 16 pads or more. Personally, I can't keep track of all of that and it wouldn't be much of a time saver in the end. Thus, I just use the basics (Long, legato, some shorts, tremolo and trills) and then adjust things as needed. For example, you can just play the longs patch and edit it to be a con sord patch later. Helps me stay in the writing zone rather than looking around to see which pad to press
Great video thanks deffo going to pick one up. The only considerations is 49 or 61..the extra octave would be nice
Fair enough!
