Thanks Dan I'm pleased these tips might inspire you on your next outing. Always important to remain positive, 80 percent of the battle is mental out there! Stepping away definitely helped. I played today with a friend and was conscious of pace of play and a number of times felt uncomfortable over the ball and still went ahead and hit it. This video proves the huge difference it can make. For pre-shot routine, I've never really been one to take one or two full practice swings, instead, a few 3/4 swings to feel the swing and where it needs to be. Pick a start line, then a point a metre or so in front that matches that target. Sync it up and hit. Putting - I've added a line to my ball which has really helped. Line that up to where I want to hit it and concentrate on just hitting a straight putt based on that line mark - not thinking about break once I've set it up. Plenty of looks at the hole to get a feel for the pace and execute. Hope this helps.

Yeah that’s a great trip. My coach actually made me do this drill for that exact reason. If I’m struggling with good contact I’ll hit 4-5 in a row like this on the range gradually increasing the swing length. Really helps.

Like you I only had a PW and a SW, the SW was from another set too so I invested in a 52 and 58 and that made a big difference for shots around the green. After that I had a short game lesson and my coach taught my the fundamentals of pitching and chipping. Body positions, actions etc as before it was all guess work. Now I understand what I need to do for each shot and if I don't achieve it it's purely down to poor execution. And with more practice comes confidence, hitting chip and runs I'm normally take putter with and shaven a few shots of my card per round as a result.

Agree Daniel. And the more you play the more you realise how much of an impact your psyche has. I feel like moments like these in your round can inspire good shots and a three putt the complete opposite.

Not great with no waterproofs. It’s so hit and miss but generally miserable - have to solider on.

Thanks Daniel, great to know you enjoyed the video. I've been playing since I was a teenager but never had any lessons. I played in a yearly golf break and for three years in a row I was a 14 handicap and thought to myself - how have I not improved in three years? So I've had a string of lessons around 7-8 and it's transformed my game - it takes a while for it to translate over from the range to the course but it's coming. Hopefully should be able to shave a few shots of that handicap before Christmas. If I'd offer any advice it would be to get some lessons, I'd guarantee your ball striking would improve a huge amount after a few sessions. Then I went out with my coach onto the course and that helped dramatically too. Good to have you here Daniel and keep me updated on your journey - where are you from?

Yes I’m looking forward to keeping you posted! I am in Birmingham, AL. I’m about to go back to uni for a graduate program so I’ll have less time to play/practice but lessons are a big priority. I’m subscribed!

Yes a bit of a stats geek - always good to compare yourself to similar ability and the stats offer great evidence to where you are losing shots over the course of a round. Can't promise any lessons as I'm not too qualified but will seek to offer advice on how I cut my handicap from high 20s down to 12 and hoping to go lower. Great to have you here - how often are you playing?

I meant are you going to be filming yourself receiving golf coaching in an effort to improve further?!! I’ll try and get out once a week weather permitting but it’s currently hammering down and 40mph winds here in Scotland so hardly makes you dying to hit the course 😂 I’ve got winter league matches most weekends this month though so will have to get on with it 🏌️‍♂️ Played a lot over the summer and had a great end to the season. Shot my best ever round and knocked 6 shots off my handicap which was nice. Do you play at a club or different courses?

Getting there! Just need more consistency.

Still trying to figure that one out. But when I get it right I'm thinking less. Trying to get the club in line with the target on the way back down before impact is most important for me.

I agree. I’ve had a few lessons recently and lost 10-15 yards per club. But my coach says the distance will come back eventually. When I middle it it’s a good distance but consistency isn’t quite there yet.

Shot Tracer desktop app. It’s £15 or so a month but so worth. Fantastic technology.
