What difficulty level are you playing in?
With the rabbits and deer, when you butcher them and the skeleton is left behind, right click it and choose take bones. That will give you very large xp for butchering. Also that sky walkway you would have passed under, please don't walk it, especially up top where it runs parallel to the sheds with the green roofs into the back building, there is nothing there but a 3 story drop either to your death or broken legs if you're lucky.
I have looked at this place and determined it is impossible to clear by hand, there are hundreds of Z's.. i will try a few fires outside the fence and Q them for a mass burning .....

you need to stand next to a counter or a surface to cook and prepare stuff, cant do it in the middle of the room
You'll count as being "next" to the counter as long as you're in one of the adjacent tiles (so, up to about 1 metre away). But there are 2 tiles between his fridge and the counter, so on one of those tiles he'll have access to the fridge but no surface, and on the other he'll have access to the surface but not the fridge. Moving the fridge to the other side of the door would keep both in range.
Rabbits, rats and mice all can end up sticking around in husbandry zones if they first enter it. Not sure why it works like that, but I like it. I've got a small spot where I've gathered a whole bunch of mice in my current playthrough. x'D Thinking of establishing a pen for rats as well.
Haha that's awesome!
Yup! In one 100 day series I was watching he had a pet rat because it was in the zone when he set up the coop. You can pet them and everything! 😂
@@jodylbuchanan Rats are the cutest to pat, they raise their little paw up. Sometimes the wild rats are pretty chill and just sit there when you get near so you can then grab it to take home.
@Retro-Iron11 that's adorable! I might need to find one for my current run. 😊
After filling, put the water pots in the cupboard. All drainables are bugged on the floor. ALL.
I've got a few episodes recorded in advance so I won't be able to address this for a while in game.
@@TheMickZed We might get fixes soon too hopefully. :) Thank you for this reply, now I know you acknowledged it, I'll shut up about it. :D
The new crafting takes some getting used to, but you can typically do all the things you could do previously, but stuff is just rearranged into different menus. Importantly, things are divided up into separate crafting menus, beyond the one you open to do 'surface' crafting. Each 'machine', such as the loom, pottery wheel, forge, etc... has it's *own* set of craftables, so there's TONS beyond what's available in that base menu. To really get into crafting, you'll either need to find the workstations, or build them, which means leveling a lot of skills, like Foraging, Carpentry, Carving, etc... before you can even get into the 'new' profession crafting skills. For example, to even start forging, you'll need around level 3 in all of those, plus Pottery and probably more, just to get into level 1 Smithing, *plus* you'll need all the recipes! It's MUCH more complicated, but also much more realistic and much more powerful. Examples: You'll need to Forage stones and clay to build the forge. You'll need to build moulds for things like your crucible and for metal casting. So Carpentry. Carving for handles. ...And that's as far as I've gotten yet.
Thanks for the comment!
I've found to make stew or soups have the pot on you then right click should bring up what it can do.
Thanks for the comment
"Why is it so crowded?" Because this is America, and in times of crisis, we rush the stores and hoard hoard hoard. It's a good thing there isn't a toilet paper factory in game, or that place would be more crowded than Louisville
Hahaha I hope they add a TP factory now!
Remember it's the early 90's, everyone is shooting, not wiping.
That umbrella zeke is a hoot.
Yeah that was a good one!
What are the debuffs associated with that uncomfortable Moodle? That combined with muscle strain gives build 42 this annoying naggy component. At least you can turn muscle strain off in the sandbox settings.
I noticed that if the cooking pot isn't completely full with water it doesn't let you cook anything, sometimes my character takes a sip from the cooking pot instead of the bottle...
Thanks for watching
I've seen that "gun range" take dayssssss to clear.
Yeah that place is crazy!
Makes me want to try it out. I got sneak and light foot at 5 each. I was thinking about tripping to the glorious looking forge equipped estate north of muldraugh, but may head there instead even though guns are bugged totally for me, I'd be meleein' the whole way. Then again, maybe not until the gun bugs are fixed for good.
Fences are you friend especially in this build we re more stamina limited in big fights. The less we swing, the longer we can fight. I get that you might want skill progression with swings, but it’s slowing you down clearing large groups. Another thing, in privous build, it’s well known that when targeting knocked down zombies, you stand on zombies head for execution(one hit kill). That’s because in the situation particularly, game determines where you hit not by the weapon model where it hit, but by player model where you stand. B42 in my experience changed a bit, but I think it’s still true for some weapon. At least don’t waste your stamina hitting their feet or torso.
Thanks for watching
Agreed that the cooking needs work before full release
Yeah, but that's to be expected in experimental phase to be fair!
Has is been mentioned yet? You keep getting cut opening cans because you are using a knife. It's the first option. You need to select the other one.
Yeah I think someone mentioned it, I'll try not to make that mistake again haha
Try making stir-fry/roast. Maybe they will work better, since they doesn't involve any fluids?
Indeed, or just eat butter lol
8:51 - Broken? You have almost 40% durability left. Having said that, the garden fork is probably slightly better than the bat, since it has more range.
Just meant it was likely to break during the day so wanted to switch it out for something that would last the full day to save on inventory space. Just a choice I made, thanks for the comment!
To limit muscle strain and preserve weapon durability, try to finish off zombies by stomping their heads instead of using your weapon, when they're on the ground. That way that part of the muscle strain goes to your legs, and the durability loss goes to your boots instead (new boots are reasonably easy to find).
Fully aware of the stomp, but prefer to use the melee weapon, just a personal preference but thank you for taking the time to make the suggestion :)
@@TheMickZed - Stomping (and using 2-handed weapons) are mainly ways to avoid getting muscle strain on your arms, which then causes your hits to be weaker. So you can kill them faster / have less need to stop and rest if you spread muscles strain across multiple parts of your body.
Im only half way through the video and commenting so i dont forget! Forgive me if you figure it out in the back half lol. You use the brains for tanning the leather.
Cheers!
To use noodles, fill a cooking pot (not a saucepan) with clean water, right-click on it while it's in your inventory and the noodles are also in your inventory (or within a 1-tile range), and you should see the option to make soup and make stew. Either one will let you add noodles, IINM. Note that some items come packaged and you need to open them first. Check your crafting > cooking menu, they should be listed there (again: make sure they're in your inventory or are within a 1-tile range).
Thanks for all the comments!
Saucepans are a bit buggy (ex., you can boil them for a whole day and that still won't purify water in them). Use regular (big) cooking pots, baking pans and frying pans instead, those seem to be working fine. Make sure the pots are _full_ of water, though. I'm not sure why you're having trouble filling them, because you made a lot of cuts to that part of the video. You need to have the pot as the target, something else as the source and then drag the cursor to say how much water you want to transfer. Alternatively, click some water source like a sink and just select "fill cooking pot", and it'll add however much is missing. Also, note that even though a soup or stew is going to boil anyway, if the water is tainted you need to boil it on its own first (to remove the tainted icon), and only then can you right-click to "create stew / soup".
Thanks for the info!
Comments are fun
Thanks!
@@TheMickZed Happy to help :)
This playthrough thus far has just convinced me to turn off muscle strain entirely. x'D No regrets. - Poor rabbits :< - animal brains are for making tanning fluids, I think.
Cheers :)
There's no need to turn it off as long as you think about it logically: if you're constantly swinging a heavy 1-handed weapon, that arm is going to get tired. If you use a comparatively lighter 2-handed weapon, you immediately halve how much strain you get on your arms. And if you use your feet to stomp zombies while they're on the ground, that doesn't add any strain to your arms. You're free to turn it off, of course, but the current level of muscle strain is rarely an issue (combat muscle strain was reduced to 60% of what it was when B42 was released). Your character is likely to get tired (normal fatigue) long before the pain from muscle strain becomes an issue.
So, a lot of things that were in the right-click menu are now only in the crafting menu, but I think the main issue with your cooking right now is the lack of a surface: many crafting recipes now require you to be next to a surface, so a table or a kitchen counter. Your cooking pots are in the middle of the room, so can't cut food into a stew while standing in the middle of the room with no surface nearby. That does mean that your fridge is in a not so great position in that kitchen, though.
Tried it next to the work surface too and still had issues either via crafting menu or right clicking, nothing worked. I'm just gonna wait for a patch or a mod that fixes it, no big deal.
Just to add as well, I searched it up and there's whole threads on Reddit of people having the exact same issue with cooking pots not being able to make stew/soup. There is a convoluted work around about transferring liquids but I couldn't make it work. So it definitely seems like a bug and not a me thing.
Cooking pots should work (as long as they're 100% full). It's saucepans that seem bugged right now. If you don't want to have to deal with liquids, just get a frying pan and make stir fries, or get a baking pan and do roasts. Also, note that ideally you want a kitchen where you can stand on one tile and have all your tools and ingredients (including the stove and the fridge, plus at least one work surface) in the surrounding 8 tiles. That way you know things aren't failing due to being out of range. Basically, a 3x3 kitchen where you can stand on the middle tile is ideal.
@@RFC3514 Nah there is 100% an issue with making stews and soups too. This a quote from user Suspicious-Flight-45 on a Reddit post about it on how to work around it "This has been killing me and maybe it's a bug, but here is what works for me. The premise: It appears that you cannot make stew/soup from liquid that you have transferred or boiled clean. You can make pasta, via the crafting menu and access to a table, with tainted water and once it says you have pasta you can continue to add ingredients like before. Stew and soup seem to be different. The solution: You will need a water dispenser, like the water cooler. First, boil the tainted water using the pots (it doesn't seem like boiling water in a sauce pan works.) Remove the bottle from the cooler and transfer all the clean water into the bottle. Install the bottle back onto the cooler. Now you can "fill the pot" using the dispenser. A pot filled with clean water from a dispenser or sink should allow you to right click and "make stew." Simple right?" It may be working for you because you're filling your pots from a sink or dispenser directly and not trying to use boiled cleaned water. So it will work if I take those steps, but I'll just wait for a fix.
@@TheMickZed - Nope, I've used previously tainted (and then boiled) water too. Saucepans never seem to work, pots do. I think the issue is that sometimes they have 1499 ml instead of 1500 (maybe some rounding error), and the right-click option only appears if they are 100% full. Transferring liquid back and forth generally fixes that. But having a dispenser is generally a good idea anyway (but don't bother putting more than 10 litres in the dispenser's bottle; although the bottle can take 15 litres, the dispenser itself will delete any water above 10 litres when you install the bottle).

1:50 Yes. But my PC is trash... But lagging a lot while driving.
Seems a lot are having the driving lag!
I consider this episode informative, not boring. Everyone playing this game will go through this scenario so you are providing a valuable service by showing the ropes, so to speak. I also appreciate the fact that you made a conscious effort not to spew profanity's due to your frustration. A very mature and civil trait indeed, especially on the internet where so many young minds can be exposed.👍
I try to watch my language on the videos just so people can feel they can watch them whenever and not have to wait until family are out of the room or what not, so I'm happy its appreciated, thank you! :)
@@TheMickZed Well thought out and executed; I wish more gamer's felt the same way. I suppose they don't realize, or even care if young, impressionable minds are watching.. and they undoubtedly are watching. Then people scratch their heads and wonder why society is in a shambles. Kudos.
Kudos. Your commentaries are a hoot. LOL
Thank you!
its safer unless it explodes from condition
True!
Baseball bats are great, but note that if you repair them, durability will _appear_ to go back to 100%, but it's actually less than 50% of an unrepaired bat. So "repairing" a bat too soon actually makes it _worse,_ although the UI suggests it's better. They really need to show durability numbers, not just an abstract bar.
Thanks for the info!
@@TheMickZed - The same goes for adding nails to it, BTW. I think I killed some 200 zombies with my (nail-less) bat, and it still had about half durability left, but after adding nails, it broke after killing 40 zombies or so. Not sure if this is intended (due to only having a couple of levels in carpentry) or a bug, but either way they need to make it clear how much "durability" the durability bar actually represents, because a full bar on one item can be less than half a bar on another.

You can fill up a rain collector with gasoline. Make sure you have a hammer in your inventory and have a empty car seat to put the barrel in. Also put the barrel indors so the gasoline doesn’t become contaminated with water. I used this trick to have gasoline at all times.
That's awesome. Rain collectors are totally useless for collecting rain water, that's far better. Water troughs are far superior for water collection. Now I'm wondering if I can pour in all the tons of soda bottles into one. :D I'm gunna do it. Going to wrap up this character soon anyway.
So I did it and it ended up counting it as water. Dang.
That's a cool tip!
Don't know, but might the brain be used for tanning leather?

Indeed!
I've started B42 just the other day and have based in Echo Creek. I've also been getting lag spikes when driving but I haven't made it as far as the chicken farm... in fact I didn't even know there was a chicken farm in the area until today (still haven't left the town itself yet).
The gas station/diner there is an amazing house spot
Got a basement with some tools an a house upstairs and a station full of food. Love it.
@@zacharypendragon49 Absolutely! Probably the best place in the Echo Creek townsite. Now that the water has shut off in my game, the closeness to the river is a massive bonus... and having that generator over the road at the fair grounds is very helpful!
