hey great stuff. Currently the outline material is being applied towards the center of the static mesh. What if I want the opposite - so its going outwards from the mesh perimeter?

How would you set up detecting normals on the inside or outside edges? For my project i could use this but I tried adding the same method for inside and outside edges from depth but couldnt get it working. Also when drawing just the inside or outside edges as set up in the tutorial, some of the edges that overlap another objects edge in the background still seems to draw the edges but theyre invisible so my outlines arent solid all the way around. Does anyone know how to fix these bugs or any tips to help would be appreciated.

I did everything exactly as in the tutorial, however when I press play nothing happens on the screen; I don’t even see the blue texts about my inputs. I asked gpt and rewatched the tutorial many times but I don’t understand why is this happening. Can you think any reason? Great tutorial btw

I feel like the big deal in this tutorial is that you aren't just saying click this node, you are saying This is what we are trying to do and we click these nodes because... huge difference in the level of comprehension you get from the video this way. Thanks for putting in the work to actually teach!

Amazingly thorough video, thank you immensely for this I've been trying to figure out how to fix the grazing angle after looking at other versions of a border shader, this was perfect. Has anyone tried or have thoughts on how you could set the normal outline and the edge outline to separate colors to create a highlight from the normal outline?

THIS TUTORIAL IS JUST PERFECT! I was looking for something like that but couldn't find it in my language(I'm Brazilian) .All the tutorials I found were about editing the basic third-person template of unreal. So I decided to search in English and I found you! Even though I don't understand English 100%, I can understand and apply everything you say in the video. I just want to thank you, man. Keep making these videos!! 💟

Not sure if anyone mentioned, but I'm about 45 minutes into this. Everything is great so far, but I was having issues when I moved the thumbstick on the gamepad, where the camera would keep moving. I added a dead zone modifier to nullify that.

The Before Tonemapping blendable location was removed in 5.4, but Before DOF (the default) works best out of the new options. Some have said Before Bloom looks the most similar but I get super jittery shadows with it.

I followed along easily but once i got to 21:42 my colors were inverted, I have white where black should be, anyone got any idea's what i did wrong (nothing, different UE5 version)? Edit: Problem solved, something changed between UE5 versions, you require inverting the color values with a OneMinus node between the Step and output result in the MM_DetectEdges_Depth material.

Thanks Evans, amazing tutorial as always, you are one of the best tutors out there 🙏 One thing I thought about - when we do reshadowing, you mix in original PostProcessInput0 back. However, since it contains lighting information, original shadows will be mixed back in as well, right? I thought about different way for including original color - you can divide PostProcessInput1 by light intensity we calculated at the start to remove lighting from it and only leave color (with lighting colors included). Then you use it instead of Base Color when multiplying by new light, so it will only contain new shadows, while keeping colors from light source :)

Even though I used the awful Mixamo skeleton, I managed to follow along and get everything working - just one issue, my toes are not following the IK of the legs/feet. I am not sure how to solve it, so if anyone has a tipp, I'd be grateful!
