    For anyone having issues with the Search & Replace / Mirror, the option is gone in 5.3 for now. Simply change everything to the right equivalent and flip your primary axis and secondary axis. (-1 to 1) and (1 to -1).

      Do you also have this problem with the SimpleMirrorFK function? Because it doesn't work for me. Might be that I've missed something but I double checked it multiple times, so I assume that is not the case haha.

    I know its late, but can I just say this is the best unreal tutorial I've ever seen in my 5 years of trying to learn unreal following countless tutorials. This is the best one hands down. First there is no rambling for 40mins about stuff I'm never going to understand. Second you keep it clear and direct so I can understand, not expecting me to automatically know what's going on. You got it split into sections so its easy to follow. I have an error using the Parent Constraint node. This causes the arrays for the FKChain to be out of range without reason. Even having the node in the graph with no connections causes this error to prevent the FKChain node from working. To resolve this, instead, I had to match the example third-person control rig and use the Set Transform - Bone with the pelvis bone and the pelvis control. Has anyone else experienced this error?

    • @MrHiiii5
      @MrHiiii5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Just double-checked, and this makes the SimpleMirrorFK function unusable; any solution to this sort of error would be greatly appreciated! Edit: This must be some weird experimental bug. Creating a second parent constraint node, and deleting the one with errors on it, fixes the issue. Copying the Parent Constraint node is fine, but I can never right-click and make a Parent Constraint node without having that node create errors.

    Hello Evans, this tutorial is amazing. Un grand merci! I have no idea if others are encountering this as well but I've got two issues: When applying this to UE5 Manny and exporting linked anim sequences, the anim sequence preview shows a lot of stretching of the mesh (but does not do so after retargetting UE5->UE4 and it does not show so in-game).
    Second issue (might be solved, read the EDIT): you can not see it in the video but the arm IK leaves the arms a bit wrangled. You can see it if you use a human mesh. Did you notice that and did you find something for it?
    EDIT: For the second issue, i noticed leaving the secondary axis empty solves the problem and IK works 100%
    In any case, un très très grand merci.

    for ue5.3, to lock the transform's min and max at 3:18, you'll have to go into the property matrix. To do that, you just select the root_ctrl, and in the details tab, up at the top, right next to the searchbar, you can find a small button to the right of it that kinda looks like the outline of a calculator, when you hover over it, it says "Edit Selection in Property Matrix" click on it, and it'll open a new tab, with a new details section that should have the min and max buttons listed. Now continue following the tutorial.
    This is the way that I've found, but I'm still new to ue5, so it could really do anything, hopefully this is the proper way to do it, if you have any other suggestions, feel free to reply.

    Thanks to this tutorial (and a little experimenting) I finally understand how control rig works. What I have done is added nodes in the forward solve such that first the controls themselves are set to the locations of bones (turning off the ability to move the controls). This allows setting another animation in sequencer. I then make a key for every control, then edit the control rig so that just the controls set bones (and not the other way around). And finally this allowed me to make edits for animations using the control rig. It's a game changer since I can start animating with a set pose and make edits to existing animations.

    I'm sure this was mentioned but I wanted to congratulate on a video that is in-depth and understandable as well as easy to follow. Not sure if was pointed out, but your title is misspelled. If you meant to put "Autorized", then that's cool. If not, your missing the "h". No big deal. That's what keeps us human. Anyway, loved the video and looking forward to watching more for my learning!!

    Hi, I really liked your video, your approach is awesome, as some commentators said you don't hurry and don't make it unnecessary slow, it's super easy to listen to to you because you dont stumble every 2 seconds. I would really appreciate if you made a series of videos on advanced locomotion system. I know it would take a lot of time, but Im getting desperate, there are tons of videios on this topic, but they explain easy stuff and leave out things like curves etc. anyway I wont stop searching for a good tutorial but if you made it, it would be great. Thanks again

    FYI, for the fingers, instead of dividing by the max value, you can also use the "remap" node and plug the maximum value of the get control float to the source maximum value of the remap node.

    if anyone's getting tripped up at 44:30 when he changes the control type from "Euler" to "Float", Unreal seems to change the transform offset back to 0,0,0 when you change the control type. You have to go back to 42:35 and do that bit again. Not sure if this is just me, or a change in Unreal Engine since the video came out

    • @evansbohl

    Awesome! Now, do it all over again, but this time use a character from Mixamo, with Mixamo bones, so us nubs can follow along a little easier! lol Or from the Mixamo "rebone" add-on in blender, which is the skeleton I used. It adds a root bone to the skeleton or something. I was missing a few bones you had and none of them were aliened with yours. But I was still able to follow along and got my rig to work. Congratulations. I wanted to ask you for a logical continuation of this video. It would be very interesting to have a channel that shows the connection of things. You showed how to create the control rig and how to create an animation sequence, now I could continue showing how to use these animations in a blendspace for example. Thanks.
