Hits from the 70's
Going old school with some blasts from the past:
1978 Amarone by Allegrini
1976 Vin Jaune D'Arbois by Rolet Père et Fils
Not the most subtle of wines, but certainly some of the most genuine, and that makes them both a pleasure and a privilege to drink.

Is Domaine Petit-Roy getting my hopes up?
มุมมอง 5621 วันที่ผ่านมา
It feels like there's a subtle changing of the guard in Burgundy, exemplified by producers like the aptly named Domaine Petit-Roy. Trying for the first time: 2022 Haute Côtes de Beaune "Mainbey" (white) 2022 Savigny les Beaunes 1er Cru "Les Lavières" (red) These aren't collector bottles they're for the pure joy of drinking. It feels like more newer producers, like Domaine Petit-Roy, are pursuin...

Some thoughts on the 2020 vintage in general, based on three wines: 2020 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Poissenot by Domaine Humbert Frères 2020 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2020 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande The past year has been a lot of 2020, and I think it's time to move on and let them sleep for a bit. Maybe. Your mileage may vary...

Two wines from a recent group tasting: 1993 Coteau de Vernon by Domaine Georges Vernay 2008 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru by Michel Bouzereau That '93 condrieu was a good reminder that not all of them have to be drunk young. Sourcing different expressions of class in the glass with: 2022 Raen Royal St Robert Cuvée Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2008 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Demoiselles by Domaine Amiot Guy et Fils One's a darling of the trade papers at the moment. One's a bit of a rarity, from a few rows of vines right next to Montrachet. Both have something to say in their own way, but one hints at deeper things....
Have I gone "vin nature"?
มุมมอง 942 หลายเดือนก่อน
Making my mind up on a rising (risen?) name in Burgundy, and at least pretty close to "vin nature" producer, Chanterêves. I've had a few cuvées of late, but the most recent didn't impress me much. Another chance here with: 2019 Pommard by Chanterêves This is an interesting bottling for me, as it's the village Pommard from another minimum-interventionist producer, Skyaasen, that really perked up...

Tripling down on Côte Rôtie
มุมมอง 932 หลายเดือนก่อน
Comparing 3 vintages of Côte-Rôtie "Terrasses" by Jean Luc Jamet: '16, '19 and '20. Needless to say, huge steps up from his Pinot and Chardonnay I reviewed recently. And a real treat to get a few vintages showing what they're good at side by side. If you've tried them in these or any other vintage, let me know what you thought in the comments.
Whose Bordeaux scores do you trust?
มุมมอง 992 หลายเดือนก่อน
Tasting the 2015 Champs Libres (white wine from Chateau LaFleur) and 2016 Chateau Batailley. Had 'em on hand, Bordeaux drinking season is in swing, felt like whining about wine scores. I personally use critic scores as a general indication of quality/money's worth, but am also aware that that means parting with cold hard cash on the advice of a stranger. A couple of strange bottlings from one of my fave Côte Rôtie producers so of course they needed trying. It's not weird at all to find these grapes in other places obviously, but Ampuis? That was a new one for me.
2021 "Paris L'Hôpital" by Chanterêves

A "new-to-me" Burg producer that hit my radar around the same time as Skyaasen. Glad it did there's lots to like here. I think some might find this cuvée a little light-bodied, but I've always had a preference for the lighter-on-their-feet Burgs. Often I find simpler "Bourgogne" examples are a little heavier and even rustic, possibly in the hopes of getting a higher extracted and therefore more...

Tasting a Pucelles I haven't tried, because the price is reasonable for this terroir these days and I liked this quote of theirs: "Sometimes the great terroirs make fun of the vintage effects." Well funny you reviewed these wines, bought an Amarone for a son who is starting to enjoy wine, and also saw a 2015 vin jaune, contemplated getting it and putting it away for a friend who likes them. I want to enjoy them but something about them, I'll stick to my sherry thanks, almost the same sort of value.

      Sure, vin jaune (and Jura wines in general) aren't to everyone's tastes. Historically I think vin jaune was considered one of the great wines of France, up there with Montrachet and the like. Sherry's good too though, enjoy!

    Thanks for the new vid Clarice. I see the there is a '20 Trapet Ostrea here for 185, how is that vintage and the Ostrea compared to the Curee? I always hate asking what you pay compared to what it costs over here, but have to ask none the less. Might be staying thirsty a little longer

    • @onetakewine
      @onetakewine หลายเดือนก่อน

      Paid €99 for the 1859, and €89 for the Vincent. The Trapet price is pretty normal for this release, I think, and the Ostrea is in the same neighbourhood over here, maybe a touch under. My feelings on the 20 vintage in Burgundy are mixed.... I find them severe and stand-offish just now, but the general consensus seems to be quality vintage. I prefer 21, but I'm definitely in the minority there, and 20 will be the longer lived of the two if that's what you care about.

    Nicely done. Chantereves so delicate and evocative. Some tips: this is too slow - it can be that slow, but then make it a single take. If you are going to edit, this video has to be 2x shorter. People want to see the bottle more. It’s better to find one sitting position and just zoom in and out, or slightly adjust the angle from take to take. The changes of angle here aren’t not quite logical. If you change angle, ask, how is the audience doing to benefit from this change of angle. And then in terms of notes: the audience needs context. Wine-burgundy-Chantreves. And perhaps context in terms of quality. And make the title appeal to people who don’t know you. E.g. “The couple who make magical Burgundy (Chanteeves). You could put a pic of you and Tomoko and Guillaume on the thumbnail. Or just you and the bottle. Keep going!

    Thanks for another top notch vid, it is always surprising the difference in what you pay and what these wines sell for over here in Gods country. Sometimes a little harder to swallow when it is an average wine and it costs well over a hundred here, many better options at that price. Also we seem to get all the off vintages it seems, you mentioned all the vintages you would try on the Batailley, we have all the yrs in-between those mentioned. Instead of the 150 for the Bat. I'll stick with the D'Issan for the same price or its lesser, Blason, for 60. Please get some proper glasses and also what make a wine "crunchy "?

    • @onetakewine
      @onetakewine 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, CDN prices are outrageous for Burg/Bordeaux, IMO. Off vintages should also be cheaper, not top price--making it even more important what scores/notes we pay attention to. Crunchy is usually a crisper wine, higher acidity with cranberry-like zestiness--not soft or flabby. Not sure there's a formal definition, but that's mine! Thanks for watching/commenting MT

    Great videos, im glad to have found your channel! I find it interesting that you drink big young Bordeaux out of a Burgundy glass. Do you find that the alcohol is elevated in such a big glass? I’ve always been told that it’s not great to drink a big wine out of burgundy glasses.

    • @onetakewine
      @onetakewine 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. Great question, technically you're right and I agree with the premise. But my Bordeaux glasses are the regular Riedel line, which feel clunky compared to the Zaldo's. I prefer the nose from the Zaldo (even the Burgundy), compared to those, and just the general tactile experience. I also don't mind "stressing" the wine out, if that's what's happening, by exposing it to a wider surface area, so drinking big wines out of burg glasses works fine for me. I don't find the alcohol elevated, but most of the wines I review aren't likely to be super-extracted or overly alcoholic. All that said, I should get around to investing in proper Bordeaux glasses at some point--thanks for the reminder!
