Welcome! My name is Sarah and I create videos about books new and old, good and bad. I do lots of reading challenges and I love a good book prize.
My Most Exciting Books! Book Haul from 4 Cities and 7 Bookstores
It's time for my annual book haul! Which is apparently a thing I do since I only ever do one of these videos a year. Let's talk about books I got from independent bookstores over the past few months that I am very excited to read!

The Deep is excellent! Hope you enjoy it.
Yay for the Robin Hobb love. I’m rereading The Farseer Trilogy and then will reread The Liveship Traders before moving on with the rest of the series for the first time. I absolutely love her writing. If you enjoy audiobooks, the one for Sleeping Giants is a great one with a full cast and well-used sound effects. They added to the story and weren’t too much for me.
Definitely read Curtain after having read several Poirot novels. Don't read it first! It's one of my favorite books but you need to know and care about Poirot first.
I have my first Robin Hobb and also on earth we're briefly gorgeous on my shelves to read. Sounds like you're settling in well to your new area of the country. Great haul 😊
i’m also on my robin hobb journey and just finished ship of magic last night and absolutely loved it!! i love the reading experience of the big floppy paperbacks but am enamored by the old school mass market paperbacks so i’m forever conflicted on what editions to buy hahah
I'm new here (just subbed) and I approve this intro.
Cgsmvf
Abby Jimenez, Taylor Jenkins Reid, or Kristin Hannah would be great!!!
Thank you for sharing some amazing and wonderful books for us to try and read and adding more to my huge collection of books 📚 on my unread tbr list so thank you for sharing love your Aussie family friend John xxx
Please continue next year!! I love tbr spin 😊 I'm just catching up in the middle of my last two books. This month I'm going to swap one out to fit the prompt and choose The Dictionary Of Lost Words by Pip Williams. Which one are you swapping out for great expectations? Love the prompt!!
All humans are unique ... there are no duplicates.
House with Good Bones sounds good!
I would love to see the TBR spin being continued. I have no preferences for prompts, I love surprises. Could you please update the StoryGraph challenge (also for October), please? Thanks.
I would love to do tbr spin next year too, i have already prepared a tbr stack
I'm so glad you loved Funny Story so much! It and Beach Read are my top favorites of this author. I'd be intrigued to hear your thoughts on the Say Everything series by Roni Loren. It's less popular, but all of her characters have really great mental health rep that felt very integral to the story and romances, so I tend to rec'd it to lovers of Emily Henry.
Five at the moment 😊
I don't want to count 😆 I have several book piles around the house. Library books always keep me pushing through but then I feel guilty not getting to my owned TBR and then there's buddy reads/book clubs... And it just continues in a cycle. 😅 Lately I've had more book hangovers than slumps.
I can only handle two books at a time (one physical, one audio) - I’m very impressed by people who can read more than that without getting mixed up!
I feel ya. I'll have like 3 books more than halfway finished and put them down for like 3 weeks. And start a new book. I think checking out books to my Kindle caused this. haha
According to story graph it's 10 but I'm actually only reading 3 they others are started but put down and forgotten about and not gone back to, some are years old.
I am currently in the middle of 13. They're all books I enjoy, but not as much as I'd like. I have started and finished a few other books in between
This makes me feel so much better haha I feel the same about some of mine, and others I feel like I'll have to start over
I am a mood reader, i finish every book on my pile but i start also a lot of books and reading just the ones that interest me at the moment. I do not have reading slumps like for years, but i start a lot of different books, now i have 12 started books. And if i don't like a book i don't tend to read on, i just DNF
Just in the middle of three right now, but I've def been 6 or 8 deep!!
Currently reading three books, but I'm contemplating starting a fourth.
I finished 3 books in a day last week, I'd been reading them for a while. It's such a satisfying feeling. So now I'm only reading 2 books, one on audio (Lent by Jo Walton) and one physical (The Light Years by Elizabeth Jane Howard) and both are soo good! My problem is that I feel guilty about reading and also about working out, I know they are both very good for me and I enjoy them but they feel self indulgent 😥. Ahh modern life is hard !! Love the videos, and thank you for doing tbr spin with @thebookbully, it's really helped me read some books that I was struggling to get to.
three...this is the highest number of books i read at a time
6...... and 3 of them have been untouched for so long that I wonder if I have to restart from the beginning...
I'm thinking the same thing with a few of mine
5! I have had such a long slump. I think it's always due to books I "have" to read when I'm not in the mood for them, even though I don't actually have to read them, I just set myself too many commitments 😑 Currently reading book 2 of acotar and think it'll get me out. I just want to focus on my series and read fantasy at the moment...
That's definitely what gets me into slumps! But I also have such a hard time mood reading haha I guess I just need to find a better balance
Just finished it and it's one of the poorest winners of the international bookers I have read and I have read all of the winners. If you want to read some excellent Partition Fiction - Midnight's Children is where it is at.
Great looking collection. War and Peace before AK is the way to go.
Question about Tertulia books. Do the books contain remainder marks or any other markings indicating overstock or bargain books? Thanks!
They don't have that. Tertulia has tons of sales, but they don't focus on bargain books. I've been loving their site though!
Hope you enjoy the fall reads! I love that Mad Ship cover, I was able to find it in hardback and am obssessed
Love these picks for autumn 🍂 Entangled life is my favourite non-fiction, it's so interesting. Also I don't think you're ever fully ready for A Little Life but would love a video you reading it. I've picked out some spooky books for October but also some long fantasy books, as it feels cosy to read long books this time of year.
Plenty there to keep you busy and out of mischief. Best wishes.
Best books of September & August Amy & Isabelle , The Burgess Boys, Abide With Me by Elizabeth Strout Highway Thirteen by Fiona McFarlane The English Understand Wool ( excellent short book) The Alternatives by Caoilinn Hughes The Coast Road by Alan Murrin My Friends by Hisham Matar I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Hapman Wild Houses by Colin Barrett
I got halfway through A Little Life and stopped. If you get to the end you’re a braver reader than me.
😂🤞
I have picked 12 books that I want to read before the end of the year. Last year I got bogged down with dreary long 'must reads', so this year I have picked mainly recent purchases, which are shorter and a bit lighter. Fingers crossed this strategy works.
I do that all the time! I feel so guilty for not reading older books but then I don't read my new books when I'm excited about them lol
I love Thrillers in that od little size
ooo I would love a thriller in that size!
Ooh I loved the Memory Police too!! I didn’t know the author had a new release
Yes! Love her :)
Can I go off on a raving rant over my hatred for A School for Good Mothers? I did think the premise was interesting, but it all felt so flat, the writing was bland, the story was repetitive, and the themes of racism and sexism were handled so shallowly, like they were inserted as tokens. I didn't feel any of the emotion you'd expect to feel from seeing a mother lose her child, only an overall sadness for that child. Did the author want us to side with her? Sympathize with a person who would abandon her toddler for two and a half hours? Feel like it was overstepping for the authorities to get involved? (I mean, she would have been arrested IRL, and would deserve all the judgment placed on her.) I guess after 2 years I’m still bitter. 😂 But I’ll be interested to see what you think! (OTOH, I’m not one of those people who rant over A Little Life. I felt manipulated, but maybe I’m masochistic enough that I’m okay with that?) Right now I’m reading There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak, and I’m really enjoying it! Worth a look since you obviously don’t have enough on your plate. 😜
😂 I'll be reading it really soon now! I'm very curious to see if I have the same feelings haha
I love the fall tbrs coming out 🍁 Must be so fun to have your first proper autumn in years! I am planning on catching up series over autumn, I have so so many on the go, and I'm really in the mood for fantasy. Summer faves were Boudica by Manda Scott and The Art Of Fielding by Chad Harbach I think.
Great video! Love your comfy shirt!❤️
Yes to Abby Jimenez boooks!!!
I have a problem with Beach Read that few people seem to mention (spoilers ahead). By the end of the book there's a moment when January and Gus go to see the burned campsite, a site where members of a cult they're investigating d1ed a horrible d3ath - they were both aware that an awful thing has happened there. And yet, January brought up her (somewhat petty considering the circumstances) relationship issues, and then they proceed to do adult activities in the IMMEDIATE VICINITY of the place where many people perished horribly. As someone who has visited sites of mass d3aths (we had to during school), these places tend to be so horrifying that they really put one's regular problems into perspective. Even though it was many years since I visited those places, thinking of them is still hard. I could hardly believe that January still wanted to do the lover's bickering sheer minutes after seeing such site, let alone feel like ADULT ACTIVITES, ON LOCATION.
ABBY JIMENEZ YASS! Read them in order!
I love how you add the extra pic of the book you’re currently talking about 🤗 I like taking screenshots of book recs and with tier ranking vids that’s usually hard unless I zoom in lol so thank you! And this encouraged me to write out my “definition” of star ratings to make it easier lol, even the quarter ratings so ik why something is a 3.25 instead of a 3 for example
Everyone above has mentioned Abby Jimenez - I bought my first book by her last month, but haven't started it yet. I'd recommend Beth O'Leary, a British author, I really love her books - the flat share is my favourite so far. Also love the Lovelines audible series by Cara Bastone, so cute and uplifting.
Sometimes I confuse Emily Henry and Henry James… I’m just a quirky little Litty Guy
😂😂

I was going to try Emily Henry but I might not now. I have read three Abby Jiminez books and that woman can fit trauma and heavy stuff into every love story with ease. Props! Love Abby!
