2 years ago I added a 12" layer of organic matter to the bottom of a raised bed garden I was setting up. It consisted of a lot of branches, leaves, cardboard, shredded paper and other misc. Items. Hello there, I made this bedding, and it is great. The worms love it a lot! I made it 6 months ago and it is outside in a tub. The question I have is now it is winter here in Colorado and freezing out there. Do you think it will be ok if I bring it up to temp for my worms to go into and live after being in the freezing weather. Thanks !

I love the way you have this set up. I started my worm journey 1year ago and I love it. We bought some land and I started raising worms for my property. I follow the lady from plant obsessed and saw this system on her channel and loved it. Picking up those bins on my stand is killing my back. Please let me know when you start selling the bags and I really like that sliding tray also. Thank you it looks great!

Great idea to passively heat your greenhouse with the compost piles, Tom. I use a small space heater to keep my greenhouse above freezing, but I am on Vancouver Island where we don't normally dip down below freezing for more than a couple of nights every winter anyway. My worm bins in there doing just fine, especially with daytime heating still well over 20°C (into 70s Fahrenheit). ~ Sandra

Your channel your rules for sure, but please don't interrupt the relax session with cardio jazz and death metal. Most are probably also good without having worm balls, mites, and springtalis shoved too close to the camera. You wouldn't do that to a guest in your home would you? lol. Love your channel though. Just watched Ann's video on her new worm wedge bin system she got from you, really nicely done Tom. I have gone to pretty much all leaves for my bedding. I shred them, soak them, then inoculate them with either the chunky material left over from screening castings or a vermicompost extract, the older this stuff gets the faster the worms go through it. In the warm weather months I use unfinished leaf mold and hot compost as well. For now my grow bag bins and other bins are fine, but I can see in a couple years going to that vermi bag wedge system. Stay Well!!!

I like this design since it seems there is way less compaction, but I think most people need a closed system. I occasionally get flies and maggots and wouldn't want those flying or crawling out over the top whenever they want.

I would dump it into a mortar try and spread it out for it v=can dry ….add more shredded paper to it to get the moisture down…once it’s drier..you can go ahead and use it….it won’t hurt the worms to use it as is…but the stink will get on your hands….so just dry it out a little and add more paper.

i always check the temp with another thermostat regularly to verify the probe. i often put the heating pad on top. worms come to surface for more warmth if they want it and the bedding doesn't dry out. it was interesting to hear about dying euros. i had the same problem, losing 10 or so a day. when i took them out of peat and gave them tons of carbon, more depth, more moisture and raised the ph they stopped dying and got fat and happy! another channel by anne at planet obsessed has lots of wedge method info. looking forward to purchasing one of these systems!

I have an old Worm Inn Mega I set up a few months ago in the wooden stand I had built for it using Bentley's instructions about 10-15 years ago. The screen top is ripped up from a cat who liked to lay on it. Anyway, I was wondering if you think your Vermibag Max would fit into that stand. While I like the Mega, it's hard to keep moisture in it, especially in a basement with a dehumidifier running near by.

I emailed them and they assured me they were pure Red Wigglers…not sure what school they went to … you can hardly see the clitellum…and they stretch out to about 7-8 inches when moving…and man are the fast……people need to learn how to identify worms….pretty sad…maybe they sourced it out…I don’t know

Tom, just a FYI. I ran into a situation where a thermostatically controlled heating mat overheated my bin because I placed the thermostat too far away from the mat itself in the bedding. The mat didn't shut off because it didn't reach its target temperature. ~ Sandra

Misread this the first time🥴…..Good point about the pad staying on continuously if it can’t get to the set temperature……i never really thought about that. I do have several of the pads with the built in thermostat…these seem to shut off when the pad reaches the set temperature…….if I’m using the one with the sensor probe….I’ll put it close to the pad….and maybe just set the temperature a little higher……. I don’t trust these “high quality China made pads”
