Trying to infiltrate Coffee TH-cam 😎
Paraboot Michael: the ugly shoe I can't stop wearing
These are great all-rounders (except for athletic use, of course).
I've worn these shoes for the last 5 years and I think I'll continue wearing them for a lifetime. When I first got them, reviews of them were difficult to come by. I hope this video helps in your decision making!
For those interested in the Michaels:
Sizing: wear your true size or go half a size down. These shoes run large; my feet are 27cm and relatively wide. I can wear both EU 42 (sockless or with dress socks) or 42.5 (dress socks or thicker socks) comfortably. They can be tight at the toe box at first. I wear Birkenstocks in 42, Nike/NBs in US 10.
Breaking them in: Expect a week of pain. They're really stiff when you begin wearing them; I washed mine with saddle soap and applied wax to soften them before committing to wear them. The heel pad tip works wonders... it elevates your foot so that it has less room to rub against your ankles.
Maintenance: A quick brush, some turpentine oil and a re-waxing does the job. I do this once every 2-3 months.
Note: if you own Paraboot Coraux, go half a size down.

How to brew better coffee at home (one simple hack)
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
I started out buying dark roasted blends from specialty coffee roasters with the intention to brew them as filter. While this isn't a great idea, those starting out may have found themselves in a similar situation to save on costs. Here, I show you one hack you can easily incorporate in your brews to optimize your own coffee. Gear: Comandante C40 ► Amazon - amzn.to/3YIouQy ► Shopee - shope.ee/9...
are those the Cerf noir?
i wear doc martens size 48, they're a bit too big but 47 was too small. i guess i have size 47,5 then... do you think i could get a pair of paraboot michaels in 47? i found gently used pair pair in 47 for 180 bucks, sounds like a steal since they're 475 euros new right now!
i used to wear 43 with docs but found those rather tight, had to break them in! perhaps 43.5 would've been more comfortable for me? maybe that makes you a 46.5 with paraboots then, 47 might be too big
man this review is amazing! just what i needed. love the look of these shoes :)
Hi! In your opinion which size should I take? Usually of trainers (Nike, new Balance, Salomon) I wear 43, which size would be right for me?
my nike EU size is between 44-44.5, so maybe 41-41.5
At first, I didn’t understand why dudes would wear that looks like granny shoes, let alone over 600 dollar price. But the more I see it the more I like it. It looks genderless, ugly yet, weirdly cute also classic vibe. I purchased both Michael and Chambord at online. Hope I made the right decision.
If ugly why buy and wear them?
Heyy thank you for the video. Why do you have two different size ? Does the size differ from the colors ? Thank you
first brown pair was a 42.5 which was comfortable but had some extra room. I went for 42 for my second pair which was more snug but less forgiving with thicker socks
Size reference vs Birkenstock is what I am searching the internet all this time! I am now confident to order my first pair. Thanks!😊
I'm a pretty huge fan of Paraboots. I have a pair of Chambords and Avoiraz, thinking of these next...
Are they comfortable?
@@roledotoledo not at first- eventually, yes
@@martinqui Do you think I got the wrong size? My big toes and long toes are getting jammed in the toe box when walking. Is it normal? Im a size US 10 in NBs and Nikes, US 9 in Converse. I bought a size 42 for the Michaels.
Hey Martin! I’m really happy I’ve found your channel and I feel your review on these are exceptionally well done by myself being a lover of these shoes I find them being true to size I’m a uk8 and have having a few pairs of the Micka (more summer / autumn style) unlined and I’ve just purchased a pair of the Michael’s in a nice whiskey suede which I love particularly for this autumn season just around the corner. Again I agree it’s a hard to break in shoe and not for everyone but they eventually break in nicely for comfort and é personally love their versatility for any types of daily outfits bring casual or smart. Definitely my favourite shoes!
@@ricardoparis4845 thanks you, and glad to hear it!! the mickas do have such interesting colors and i’ll definitely give them a shot!
hey is that a dark brown or more of a burgundy? im looking into getting a pair but not sure to go for cafe, marron, or bordaeux
@@dumabalrog cafe is more of a dark brown than red. think all are good choices!
@@martinqui thank you!
is the girl fil chi? are you fil chi? or chinese american?
The putting on of these without unlacing is giving me unexpected anxiety 😮
The look to big for you... if you dont need to unlace a shoe to put it on then its the wrong size.
@@AlexanderDobinson theyre laced a bit loosely here for convenience. What can i say… i have wide feet and skinny legs. A size down would turn my feet would blue
I love their shape! I need a wide toebox and they look like they would fit just right. Also, since I have very thick legs, chunky shoes fit my body type better than slim pointy shoes.
"they make your feet look like hooves" this is a great god damn video. I just bought some Avignons (a mainstream split toe derby) and am inhaling all the Paraboot vids I can find. Great work Martin
appreciate it mate! those and the chambords, eventually!!
If one is the devil, hoof foot suits him perfectly.
How did the price of these explode? $700 usd now.....
They are not ugly. I believe the style is called "Norwegian" and they are sturdy, no nonsense shoes. In particular apt when worn by a taller gentleman. They are informal shoes.
In my eyes they are perfect!
They are ugly shoes
They are beautiful shoes
Except it’s not ugly 😂, it’s just complete matter of personal taste and preference. Some people don’t like brogues that don’t mean brogues are ugly …
as they say... beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Awesome review. Very thoughtful advice on sizing! Is the stretch enough to say it’s a quarter size stretch? I tried on a 43 and it felt fine like true to my foot. The 42.5 was a bit cramped but if it stretched out a quarter size, it might be perfect. Appreciate any help!
thanks for the comment! i'd say get the 43, unless there's significant heel slippage. it's probably quarter size stretch tops!
@@martinqui thank you! Man this sucks, really wish there were shops near me with the pair that I want (the collab with EG) but in the States, only a handful have them in 42.5 and it’s final sale /:
@@gnatotto for Michaels i would think half size down is better, they fit wide. i wear US10 for nike and NB too, if your going for reims then half size up better. i am looking to buy another pair of MIchael in noir.. hard to find 41.5 always sold out
do you reccomend online shopping in cettire? how about the shipping time?
My experience was fine, and i think the shipping was on time!
Beautiful video and shoes. How wide are they in the toe box? They look like they are wider that the typical oxford/brogue dress shoe.
For me a bit tight (i’ve got wide feet and big toes…), but yes, still roomier than most oxfords!
Just finished listening to your first podcast with Sophie….👏👏👏👏
welcome to TH-cam Martin! always asking Sophie what you wear hahaha
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
hi mom
You’re amazing Martin…❤ 🥰
Always wearing a black shirt, but the profile pic is a white collar 🤔
Cheeky aren’t we! Haha havent changed this pp since 2018 i think
@@martinqui Haha, I'm glad your channel popped up for me really enjoyed the last two coffee vlogs.
@@hewholikestodraw been really busy recently, but I hope to put another one up soon!
Thanks for the video. Do you get similar results if you were to double or triple the recipe? For example, 30 grams of coffee to 500 grams of water. How would you break up the pours and their volume?
This is really helpful! I personally really enjoy the bitter notes, but my partner doesn’t. Now I know how to make coffee more enjoyable for him! You mentioned this heck can be applied to aeropress as well. Would that mean to not press when hissing / not pushing out all of the volume or like using lower volume of water to extract, followed by bypass? Thanks!
Yes exactly!! Competitive aeropress brewers used to use >20g doses… wasteful but yields great results!
try out pouring into the center in a slow circular motion! I made a video on a technique that I've been working on for awhile. Utilizing bypass for your brew is great! I tend to cut the dripper off when I feel like the last amounts of extraction have been pulled through. If you taste the last bits of the extraction, it should taste like a barley tea or something thin and tea like! I feel like there should be more emphasis on how we pour our water since agitation tends to be a huge debate within brewing, though it's dependent on your grind size :p th-cam.com/video/FhHGM3xiP2c/w-d-xo.html
Will give it a try, and a look!
WDT is actually Weiss Distribution Technique and then you have Tool. So WDTT :D
Hames Joffmann says don't use cermaic v60 because it's hard to pre-head.... just a tip to you
ahahah yes, but in this case, the ceramic v60 is such a pleasurable thing to look at
Thanks Martin, very good video. The Flair looks really fun to use!
Great video! On an unrelated note, can I get a link for your frames?
they're from guepard :)
Love this video
have a flair 58 for almost a year now. Love the pressure profile and experimenting you can try with it for the price. Recent discovery is using a paper filter at the bottom, this lets me grind finer and have a cleaner cup. I also preheat my unit with the lever all the way up to lock more of the heat. More videos!
do you have particular filters you use? i'll try and fit an aeropress filter into my portafilter and see!
@@martinqui AP filters you'll have to cut down to size. Did this for a few tries and it's just tiresome. Also bought a circle puncher at 58.5 and tried cutting v60 abaca filters (also a hassle) what I ended up doing is buying 100 peso filters from shopee and that did the trick. Just search espresso paper filters. They're priced 1php/filter. It's specd at 58mm but truly around +1mm both sides. you can push it a bit for tight fitting. I started wetting them but also a hassle so now I just use them dry. Can't find any difference with the wet ones. Oh what a hobby we have.
@@martinqui Great vid, was just looking for a local Flair58 review 👍🏻 Thought I could return a small favour by responding to your qn; If you’re concern about only using food-safe paper, you could consider Cafelat 58mm filters (easily available here in Sg) Fits perfectly, and has allowed me to pull 6bar shots using finer grinds with minimal astringency.
i am fond of your videos broo im a brewer as well and i study psychology hehe
glad you can relate!!
nice video.ho many clicks on the comandante?
23!
great vid. thanks
What number of clicks were you using on the comandante?
23 for this, occasionally 22 if the drawdown is too fast
Good recipe. I wonder where did you buy a cup that resting the V60. (The white big cup)
Sorry this is the hario v60 drip tray!
i've always wondered why my bypass brews always tasted sweeter compared to my full brews. This explains why
Great hack, thanks for sharing
Good tips Martin!!! Enjoy your coffee breaks!! 😎
Love this video! Thnx
I love this video! Thanks
Good to know. Thanks for sharing
Good job Martin! ❤
Awesome! Is it also possible to extract the sweet spot of the coffee if I only use a French press?
a bit harder to do for immersion methods I think… if you’re not “washing out” with fresh water each time as in a percolation/pourover, but i haven’t looked into it hard enough
First! 💕☕
