*TUTORIAL VIDEO 1 AND 2 UP NOW* A couple of days ago I started learning bells harmonics by Alan Gogoll. I have realised that not a lot of people understand the concept of what he is doing to produce the sound, so I thought I would make a little video to explain it. Gav

    You might not even look at this account anymore, but I thought I'd share something that might make you chuckle. I haven't made a song in years, but wanted to go back through my catalogue of clips to come up with one, knowing I've mainly played in CGCGCE and CGCGGC with the odd DADGAD song. After several hours over a few days of trying to figure out why none of my tunings worked for several of my favourite clips and being utterly confused when I figured out that I needed an E and a C#, I had a moment of epiphany (maybe reaching by using that term) and remembered that I'd tried learning this song and, low and behold, I found my mysterious tuning.

    So this Alan gogoll guy claims to have invited this technique, not being funny but didn't Jaco pastorius do this in the 70s on bass?

    • @jakeeeGST

      no, not nearly as complicated as what alan is doing. most of jacos harmonic stuff is made up of natural harmonics which frees up a lot more of his fretting hand

    He’s probably mad someone exposing his technique cuz in a live once I asked how he does it and got so angry and said he will never tell and is tired of ppl asking because it’s his business model and has no “incentive” to let ppl know how he does it. He’s a big Australian asshole

    How are you playing harmonics with your fretting hand? In 30 years of playing, I've never seen this. I don't understand how you're getting that amount of volume from what you're doing. That is, I can strike the string and sometimes get a random harmonic, but it's barely audible. 🤔

    • @thegermangamer7712
      @thegermangamer7712 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use my thumb to pick the note ( on the neck side) and I place my index finger on the fret. The method he uses you can see in the first video. This technique was invented by the Alan gogall

    • @notquitehuman7402
      @notquitehuman7402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sit down for more than 10 minutes trying this and you'll get it pretty quick. They're natural harmonics so you don't need to pluck powerfully; I find they resonate much more when I'm trying to play quiet because the wife and baby are asleep haha.
