Just started listening to Alan Gogoll, and found the sounds he creates awesome. Great tutorial Gavin, explains the bell harmonics really well. Gives me something to practice.
This is a so hard technic. He does not perfectly do it, but very well for sure. I play some Travis style pieces, but this (bell harmonics) is another level !
Great job providing an explanation to the "Bell Harmonic" technique. I was having a struggle with it before and your video helped to understand what alan was doing.
Awesome video! Glad i cane across this. I've been following Alan for quite some time now and always wondered how he did the bell harmonic technique! Cheers!
Also this sounds like a very nice tuning, I'm experimenting with quite a bit of open tunings but I didn't know that one, do you have other tunings to recommend to try? That maybe are lesser known
@@gavdavidson1219 nice!! I know the second one through some ben Howard songs I used to play such as old pine and further away, but I don't think I've ever tried the 1st one you suggested... I'll give it a go now! Any know song that you know has been played in that tuning?
The same tuning as in this vid but with 6th string down to D is nice too. I stumbled upon it messing around but I think Antoine Dufour used it on a song called Catching the light if I remember correctly
Hi and first of all, thanks for your tuto. It's very difficult to play this piece, (i'm actually working on it). One thing for the right hand : i think it's more efficient to play harmonics putting the third finger on the chord and scratching it with the pinky or ring finger (Alan gogoll plays like that). Why? because of the percussive technics from the 39th seconds which are far more easy to play like that.
I don't undestand your speaking very well because I'm not native, but I'll práctice a lot for sure. Thanks very much really man you will make my dream true. You should be happy :) 😊😭
Deva just whenever I get time! Sometimes none a day, sometime over an hour, just when I can :) you just need to pick pieces to learn that challenge you
Never to late for me i started because i saw a fingerstyle piece of 《HOTEL CALIFORNIA》 played by shunga jung and gabriella quevedo arranged by tomi paldinius at age 22 now i m 25 and i was playing it 1 year ago it took me like 1 month of hard work but it paid !!! Just work on it and your brain will get used to it
I just love the melody of the picking pattern in that tuning. It's so warm and romantic. That's what gets the bitches wet lmao Also, stop putting yourself down, man. You're a decent guitarist. I mean hey, I can't do this technique, and I've been playing for five years. One thing I've learned is that half the battle when you're performing/recording is purely psychological. It's a bit of an adjustment when you're so used to practicing - like, when you practice, if you fuck up, you do that part over again. When you start recording you learn to stop doing that. So if you screw up, you just act like it didn't happen. So my advice if you want to grow your channel is start recording covers, and don't worry so much about "how much you suck." You don't suck, but you're always going to suck when compared to yourself a year later, yknow? When you screw up, just power through it and the audience is none the wiser.
I’m surprised Alan hasn’t flagged this video to get it removed. He’s extremely strict about his techniques. Charges like 700 bucks an hour for lessons.
this is great, but i think he uses his middle and ring finger for the right hand harmonics from the videos I've seen for those wanting 100% match to original, gives it a bit more flow
no, not nearly as complicated as what alan is doing. most of jacos harmonic stuff is made up of natural harmonics which frees up a lot more of his fretting hand
This guy should've receive a nobel prize for cracking the code. I don't want to sound like an ass but l will have the balls to say this about the guy who self-proclaimed that he invented this technique as if this cures cancer and solve the global poverty. That guy, whose last name sounds like your famous search engine, is a bit of a jerk for being so secretive about this technique.
Will be making a tutorial video on the first minute of the song this weekend, had a lot of practice on it! :)
you da real mvp
Thanks for the tutorial. I hope you're doing well
Share the tuning which is the most important..
Just started listening to Alan Gogoll, and found the sounds he creates awesome.
Great tutorial Gavin, explains the bell harmonics really well. Gives me something to practice.
I don't think I've ever been this excited about a guitar technique, thank you so much for explaining this so clearly! 🎉
This is for the first time I actually understand what Alan was doing!! Thank you!!
Nancy no worries! Started making tutorials :)
So underrated, this guy deserves more subscribers

So true
thanks so much for this! i never realized he was playing harmonics with one hand at a time and its in both hands whoa
This is so insane. I was trying so hard to figure out how he was playing this and I had no idea he was plucking with his left hand.
Great job providing an explanation to the "Bell Harmonic" technique. I was having a struggle with it before and your video helped to understand what alan was doing.
TheKoopa4000 happy I could help! Making a tutorial this weekend of the song transcription
Nice Explanation, I discovered Gogoll a few minutes ago, saw bell harmonics and was like "I'm going to find a tutorial on how to do that !"
Thanks, just saw him on Instagram as “creator of bell harmonic technique” so had to look it up!
same
Explanation starts at 2:10.

Dannng dude thanks so much! I’m debating whether to go straight for this song or learn harmonics got crazy first... but this melody is soooo beautiful
Opened my eyes - thank you!!!
Just discovered this video series. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this. I feel like I've got a whole new area of guitar unlocked :)
I've always been fascinated with his music, but it's so damn complex

Dude took DimeBag's harmonic idea and went crazy!
thank you so much for this video! it really helped a lot!
Thanks for this. I bet you play it very well now.
Thank you so much!
Best wishes
Excellent brotha! Thank you!
Thanks for the explaintion, now for the fun part.. to try to get the technique down!
blackhoody76 no worries! Made tutorials for the first minute or so of the song
Gavin Davidson thanks man, I will be checking that out once I can get the technique down.
YOU ARE GENIUS
This is awesome, thanks!
Very good

Adhemar Rivas haha sorry mate I’m Scottish
Thanks so much dude! Been working at it for 10 minutes and i already see progress! Thanks for the clear and straight forward presentation.
a big late for my age to learn guitar but buying one and wanna learn this xD
Bandon Chour hey Brandon, never too late! I started playing at 20 (22 now)
Gavin Davidson you are a legend :D
Gavin Davidson dude, same. How time do you spend on it on a average?

Your amazing brother

I have spent so much time trying the figure this out and for some reason never guessed this
I thought this as I found this ahhhhhhhh thanks a lot!
What type of guitar nylon strings do you have?
bro thanks a lot.
really tough stuff great job :)
Good to know
What's the tuning???
did you ever find it out?
E A C# E B E hope this helps
wait do you even need to do bell harmonics? couldnt i just do all the harmonics on the fretboard side?
Is the tuning EAC#EBE?

Ooo. Oops. I’ll go take down my comment on Tik Tok asking for a brief description. 😬
You can't own a technique
@@lukaskuipers7791 I agree. But he doesn’t. He’s kinda a douche about it.
@@Venomous-n7j just a matter of time before more people are using it, me included. Same when lenny breau first did the right hand waterfall harmonics.
Nice sir
Thanks so much man
thanks for video :D it's too hard to me but I'll practice
A big thanksssssss
What guitar do u use?
Are bell harmonics played by ear ?
😱😱😱 cool
You summarized that a little better than in my video, kudos for that. Probably could have made mine shorter lol
Wait, so what is the tuning?

Which guitar u are using bro
Adeel Khan faith venus bro
What Tuning is his guitar in?..
EAC#EBE

yes, i belive if you are the teacher alip_ba_ta..
Mind if i ask, what guitar do you have here?
Kuri Fox it's a faith Venus naked edition :)
Thanks, very nice looking guitar, not very expensive either.
Kuri Fox sounds better than some martins and Taylor's I've played
Well i guess if i ever want a good acoustic i know what to buy, thanks a bunch.
I haven't heard of that brand, but better then some Martin's is worth checking out.

what did Alip_ba_ta do?
@@gavdavidson1219 Alip_ba_ta is recently famous in Indonesia, and he admires alan gogol, he said

this is great, but i think he uses his middle and ring finger for the right hand harmonics from the videos I've seen for those wanting 100% match to original, gives it a bit more flow
Anthony Jones its a preference thing, I used my middle and ring finger now but either is fine with enough practice
Where is my,mind
It works only with metal strings or something like that?
So this Alan gogoll guy claims to have invited this technique, not being funny but didn't Jaco pastorius do this in the 70s on bass?
no, not nearly as complicated as what alan is doing. most of jacos harmonic stuff is made up of natural harmonics which frees up a lot more of his fretting hand

Mandeep Barman This video is years old, and if you briefly scroll the comments/look at the other vids you will find the tuning no problem
