Hi there. How much meals do you prepre per cook day and who is that determined by?
@@flower_868 you make the decisions about how your service works and what your service size is for the price that you’re charging, of course that can always be adjusted with the client, but you need to know what your boundaries are.

Thank you for knowing your worth and charging for the guide now.
thank you so much for your insight! How important is it to specialize in one area, for example, seniors, special diets, busy moms, etc. Do you have to do a separate business plan for each area stating marketing etc?
It's easier to get clients if you focus on one type of client. Then it's easier for them to know it's a good fit.

At the time of watching this which is November 2024, the title says what equipment does a personal chef need. I think the wrong title is on this video
You are 1000x right. I will swap this out, thanks for the heads up!
Well said, you are absolutely correct about all of these! Helpful video!
Thanks Angela :)
Supplies. Personally, I'm starting with pots and pans i feel comfortable using. I have a mix of stainless steel, enameled cast iron and hybrid pans like hexclad. I bought alot of it from Facebook market brand new. I also have 2 knifes, mixing bowls, utensils and meat thermometer from a restaurant/kitchen supply store in my area. Start up money. I'm a 24 year old living with my parents. I just started making 14$ an hour at my regular job. My credit score wasn't quite good enough to get any type of loan so I'm paying everything out of pocket. It's taking some time but I'm slowly building my supplies and getting in the practice I need to get more confident. Websites. I have a Facebook and Instagram page. I'm not used to talking to a camera so tiktok is slowly becoming a considered option for me to have. It's also a good outlet to make some income on as well. It will be a year that I've been working on this with the knowledge and money I do have. I'm hopeful and I'm excited on my time to shine ✨️ 😌
You’ve got this! Definitely get your practice in for your confidence, that's the most important part.
real.
Another day excellent video chef Shelley! Thank you! Personal chef business to the win!! Thinking of also Including a side dog treat business (with my teens) and good way to help them take off with it.

Glad you love it!
I am a personal chef, but I'm unsure how to market myself effectively in this field. My goal is to focus more on being a personal chef by 2025. In the meantime, I run a food spot, but I want to grow my personal chef services to increase my income and reduce reliance on the food spot.
That is a great goal!
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us:)
You're welcome :)
Im excited to be able to attend my first monthly group call next week. I've learned so much from the archived videos and these You tube vidoes. I really appreciate it! Im definitely looking at meal prep, but i am having imposter syndrome and i also am in an area that regularly scheduled customers will be a challenge. But i know ill figure it out!❤
You got this! I'm looking forward to making a plan so you can confidently get started :D
Thanks for this saved me guessing how to cut them. Funny and educational. Great Video !
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped you!
This is perfect. Thank you for this 💃💃
You’re welcome!
Do you have a video on storage after cooking and how to give instructions to them for warming it back up
That is specific to the food that you cook in your specialty, and how the client wants it packaged. As you cook start adding that to your recipes now.
I'm curious if this has any barring in Maine?
@@lawrencechattley check w your local health dept they’ll know exactly what your requirements are
Chef, where can I find your blog on how you started this journey?😊
Here you go! www.chefshelley.co/how-i-became-a-personal-chef/
Excellent tips chef Shelley thank you!
Glad you liked them!
Great great information! Thank you so much for taking the time and being honest about this bussiness.
You are very welcome!
What is the difference between my clients kitchens and my kitchen?
@@brucev3480 ask your health dept for a local and exact explanation. My understanding is that when preparing hazardous foods (which is why cottage laws allow only baked and other goods) is that it has to be prepared in a kitchen the client knows is safe. So in a commercial kitchen, the health department inspects and certifies it so people know that it’s safe. When you’re cooking in the clients home it’s their home and they see you so in theory they know it’s safe. In reality any way can be safe or unsafe, but that is not the letter of the law.
The issue I'm having is I don't want to cook in other people's kitchens. I would like to work omena weekly menu with them, prepare it in my kitchen and take it to their home. I don't want to do shopping for only them. If I have a client that wants Salisbury Steaks for one of their meals. I go to the store and I see five pound packages of ground beef are on sale. I would like to buy that five pound package and freeze it and have it available for my next client that wants Salisbury Steak or if I need ground beef because someone wants Lasagna Bolognese. I can go straight to my freezer. I want to have my own stocked pantry I can just pull from. With all that being said. Getting that started is hard.
As I talk about in the video, that business model is selling food whereas personal chef services is just that, a service. You should work through both models and look at the profit involved. I guarantee it is a lot easier and more profitable to do personal chef services. Also doing it out of your home can lead to trouble. There are plenty of trolls who love to put people and ruin their businesses. Also your liability insurance will not cover you if there is an issue. Can you imagine making someone seriously ill and getting sued? There is a lot to consider before you move forward no matter what type of business you want.
A lot to do to become a personal chef google great idea I hope I am successful thank you
You got this!
Great video! Thanks❤
You are so welcome!
Great information. Thanks
You're welcome! 😊
Just a heads up, there's no video playing. It's just a black screen
Thank you for letting me know! I will get that uploaded again
I don't know if I'm wholly this but I definitely have the planner gene. I have cooked for others in many situations. I've worked as a cooking teacher, a food photographer and most recently cooking for people with difficult dietary restrictions due to illness. I think as a planner I can make the most $ and serve the most people with my ability to plan, prep and multitask. As an assistant I've been told I am good at figuring out what chef needs next. So yeah, not sure what I should do to be more successful as a personal cook for others. I think I like the variety and the challenge of the niche of dietary restrictions because it's fun and challenging to learn how to cook and bake gluten free or use no oil in cooking. That to me is fun. So what kind of cook do you think I am?
You've got a lot of the skills needed to be a great personal chef, what do you mean by ‘be more successful’?
@@ChefShelleyB I think my problem is in negotiating jobs and making materials for the client to fill out so they don't forget to tell me important dietary needs. Also although I've done plenty of work none of it was ever in a formal kitchen setting but many one off jobs or jobs I didn't get because I screwed up getting all the info or some other reason. I think I probably haven't applied myself to all the details due to the impulsive nature of being recommended for a job and the interview happening too fast. This is forcing me to recognize that I should prepare the materials I need like paper work and contracts before I go for any job. As a planner of course I already know what I need to do. Thanks for the little shove🙏
This was helpful❤! I love howneasy copy me that is!
Glad it was helpful!
