Introducing The Argos Lever Espresso Machine
I didn't order the (shall I say) the older transducer just for the looks but the new one looks sleek! Is there a way I could order this and get it added to my Batch 3 order that I already have?
@@_abhinava_ yes any new orders for the transducer will come with the new design. I need to update the product listing photo
When will this be availble for purchase on the website?
@@DannyPrinceps if you order the pressure transducer on our site this is what will ship. I'll try to get the photos updated!
If you don’t recommend removing the shower screen then how do you recommend giving it a thorough cleaning?
@ross- Thanks for making and posting this video.
Cool, is this shipping now? I don't see it on the website.
it is! I just haven't had the chance to update the site yet.
Hot to get it in Germany ?
We have shipped several units to Germany already!
Can confirm, I have one in Germany 😊
Nice video. It's so easy servicing this machine, i love it!
Thank you so much for this video! Do you recommend using soap and water to clean the piston/spring/o-rings around the piston assembly? Or would you recommend just wiping them down with a towel or maybe isopropyl alcohol (if I want to be extra clean)?
@@DannyPrinceps you could do soap and water but if it's not rinsed thoroughly enough I've had soap bubbles impact the bleed valve when you first start to use it again. Isopropyl is nice because it cleans and the excess evaporates. I'll usually use isopropyl then rinse with water
Is that molykote stuff safe to eat??
@@tentimestwenty yes, we use and recommend the industry standard Dow Corning Molykote 111 which is a food safe grease
@@odysseyespresso wicked, thanks!
I wouldnt spread it on 🥞
@@fastcoffee9878 Ah dudeee you are missing out...
@@DannyPrinceps 🤣
👍👍👍☕☕☕🙋♀️🙋♂️
It's amazing that one can clean every single part of the machine which touches water or coffee without so little effort
Thanks Ross! Appreciated
Can you stop the extraction once a desired yield is reached? Eg pull up on the lever like on a flair? Or do you have to empty the chamber?
@@Persason exactly! You would pull up slightly to stop the flow, then once your cup is removed you'll purge the rest out just like a flair. The only difference is if you pull up too much, it'll let more water in but it doesn't take much to stop the flow
@@odysseyespresso Thanks for the reply. I have two additional questions if it's ok. In order to do larger yield shots than the 42grams would you then refill the chamber with water? Would this not ruin the puck integrity? Also I see that the portafilter is different from the regular 58mm. Could you just shave the ears off a regular portafilter and make it fit in theory or is there more to it then that?
@@Persason spot on! Our air bleed valve in the piston makes it possible to refill without disturbing the puck
Have you considered increasing the footprint of the baseplate for added stability to avoid using your hand for stabilization? Ideally you wouldnt need to secure it with your hand but I can see why you want to keep the overall machine small. Maybe make the metal piece under the drip tray expand out wider or in a T shape so you could twist the portafilter without toppling the machine when you torque it in and out?
Yes, that would increase cost of the machine and the goal was to make it as affordable as possible. With water, the whole thing weighs less than 17lbs (7.7 kg) so a wider base wouldn't do anything for helping overcome the torque of the portafilter in this situation. Also doesn't help that I'm seated during the video.
how big shots can it pull? It seems like it tops out at 34grams
@@Persason depends on the beans and how long you preinfuse but I can consistently pull 43g shots with a single pull or over 50g with a Fellini which is where I would pull the lever again to refill the chamber.
@@odysseyespresso Thanks. can you also stop it half way if you want or do you have to empty the chamber into the cup? In other words can you stop once you hit a predefined yield of eg 36grams even if there is 43g of water in the chamber?
@@Persasonyes, you would just pull down slightly on the lever to stop the flow, remove your cup, then let the remaining water flow into the drip tray.
Thanks for sharing. The company is now starting their 3rd batch of pre-order to be delivered in Q1 2025. Because it ship from US, this is roughly 20% of VAT to be added to price for a total of 1350$ + 60$ shipping... That's why I will get a Cafelat barista for 500$ as I never do anything with steam, only medium/dark espresso... Still Argos is definitively a great option before jumping to even more expensive lever machines (CT2 : Two thousands $)
@odysseyespresso is the steam wand tip in this video the stock tip that comes with Argos (2-hole tip), or is it changed to 3- or 4-hole tip? Mine seems to have way less power than this one shown in the video and cannot create this strong vortex...
@@DannyPrinceps all of our videos use stock components so this is the 2-hole tip! Just to clarify, you're putting the machine into "steam mode" and waiting for it to get up to fill pressure (~3 bar) correct? If so, placement makes a huge difference in generating vortex on this machine. Some people prefer a 1 or 3 hole tip as well. Feel free to reach out to support if you continue having issues!
Perfect shot!
I suspect you are right that the pull was fast. I was close to 15 seconds.
Beautiful design. However, I am wondering if I am missing something here. My understanding is that this is a single boiler espresso lever machine like Les Pavoni's, for example but wrapped in a modernized design. Or, am I missing something?
@@raminolta it has PID control and the only production lever machine that allows the user to switch between spring and direct lever.
You need a taller bench
I am SO STOKED that I will not have a giant dildo on my machine!!! This is awesome!
Really impressed by the machine and the man.
This is very interesting. If I may though, it seems to me that using a positioning jig for the boiler (instead of taking multiple measurements with a caliper) would be a much more efficient way to assemble (and less error-prone). Build the jig once, speed up assembly and reduce errors.
This is great to watch. I can't wait to get mine and reflect on the incredible details and sophisticated thinking behind engineering and building in addition to business development and team building. Bravo!!
Thanks Dave!
The very definition of a hand-built artisanal machine. Stunning.
Beautiful machine!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonder if you couldn't build an alignment jig for the part where you're aligning the boiler with calipers!
You're exactly right! In batch 2, the front panel locating tabs will move to the sides and that'll be the perfect groove to have a locating jig for the edge of the boiler. We could also do that on these machines to located relative to the top plate but it's usually not much of an issue.
Pretty cool.
Dang, Ross, looks like you've got a lot of this memorized! Love the multipurpose jig, too, that's a great idea
Of all the people, I build the least so I had to reference our build guide papers on my left.
From workflow to how a machine is assembled!. I appreciate all the info you give us as consumers.
Thanks for following the journey!
Ok, now I see why you don’t sell them as kits 😂 Very cool video Ross! Can’t wait to get mine!
haha yes, exactly! Just wait until the next video on our QC process. It's nothing crazy but all comes down to specific tools required.
but.... you didn't finish?
We actually don't install the piston assembly or accessories before shipping. Our next video will show the QC process which happens just after this stage.
A whole new level of appreciation and admiration! I can’t wait to get mine! Keep up the good work!
Appreciate the support!
Hey Everyone, it's a 2mm hex key by the way!
Hi! I am a coffee starter from Korea who is interested in Argos. I am leaving a message to you so it may help Argos to be more user friendly. Would you consider placing a Boo ey in the boiler for the sake of convenience? lamarzocco places red Boo ey to indicate drip tray to be drained when it the tray is full. you would still need to find out which plastic material to use such that it would withstand the heat and pressure.
Thanks for the suggestion! Can you please email a photo of the indicator that you're referencing so we may dig into this idea further? Many people do not like having plastic in their boiler which can make this difficult to achieve.
Can't wait to see a future iteration with a better--and possibly wider drip tray.
I’m guessing Ross that you are right handed but on your own personal machine, do you have your steam wand on left side. This will be my first espresso machine if I go through with it but I can’t figure out for the life of me which side would work best for me
My personal machine is a right hand steam wand. I went into this having never used any other steam wand and I prefer the rhs orientation. If you don't have a preference from machines you'd be fine learning on either side. Maybe keep in mind where you plan on putting the machine and whether or not you have more space to steam on the right or the left.
Someone in a forum mentioned that they regret getting left side steam wand as it gets in the way when they lock the portafilter.
Is it possible to order two different assembled arms? One for spring and one for direct lever? Makes things a lot easier for me. Thank you.
Sure can! We have that listed on the site as the "Argos Piston Assembly" which will ship in the direct configuration.
@@odysseyespresso thank you for your response.
i would like to ask about your digital bluetooth transducer. Is it compatible with flair 58 too? Is it working the same with smart espresso profiler unit? Difference in compatibility with machines or scales? I am interested in purchasing an argos and i would appreciate something that provide digital data but working also with flair 58 and having as much compatibility as possible.
Smart Espresso Profiler is a separate company that makes their own fittings and adapters. I cannot confirm that ours will work on a flair but it is the same base sensor
Sorry, please note that I meant to say canNOT confirm with the flair
@@odysseyespresso Thanks for clarification

Will there be a base model without the app connectivitiy?
All machines have the ability to connect through the micro controller we use for our PID control. People that want live pressure plotting pay extra for the pressure transducer
What is the grinder brand and model?
Kafatek Monolith Flat Max
i wonder if you can steam milk and brew espresso at the same time?
This was super helpful, one tip I learned, is to make sure the steam valve is fully open (it requires more turning than I originally thought), that made a huge difference and brought steaming time down to 15-20 seconds for a pitcher of milk.
nice
It can survive for pop up coffee shop? 100 shots per day
Unfortunately this machine would not perform well for that use case.
How many shots can you do on a full tank of water?
4-5 double shots
Is it possible to do one or two more so called Fellini moves/pulls in order to get a larger cup of coffee or lungo? Or what would you recommend to someone who would like to enjoy a drink a little longer than it would take to drink the traditional espresso?
Yes, one or more Fellini moves are very easily done on the Argos and I have found no negative impacts to shot quality
