How did you take the old core out?
You have to pull back, wiggle and work it upward
How do you know which transfer case your vehicle has? I have a 1996 Jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 4x4 and my transfer case broke. I have some numbers but I haven’t been able to find which transfer case I need for my car. Any help is appreciated thank you.
The plate on the back should tell you what transfer case it is. Here is an example link. Match the model number on top. images.app.goo.gl/Xh4aRmmNwcAVpDWV8
Cheers from Outback Oz. I'm about to start this job on my 2008 Forester. Wish me luck! Peace.
Does this engine have versions with no balance shaft ? I have a 99 with the same engine but I believe there’s no balance shaft and I don’t see anything in the service information. Also Pop-II Fixit has a video on rod bearings and it looks like he just takes the oil pan off and there’s no balance shaft there. Thanks for your help
I think I figured it out. It’s only on the four-cylinder engine not the six cylinder if I’m correct.
Possibly. This one does have the Balance shaft.
My daughter and I finished the heater core and evap core job yesterday and it wasn't really that bad of a job after following your tips. We ended up with no leftover screws or bolts after we were done and everything is running great! The only issue we had was we forgot to check that the evap core condensation tube went through the firewall cleanly and it got folded over and pinched so I had to loosen three bolts on the vent box and yank the tube out with pliers so the water could drain. Thanks again fir the video! Also, doing this job with two people is key to making it easy IMO
Heater core and the evaporator core in my daughter's 2004 Jeep Liberty are both bad so I have to do this job now as well, ty for the video!
Damn dude, what a chore! Good work though, glad to know it can come out the top.
Use a pickle fork and the ball joints will come out a lot easier
I have bad luck splitting grease boots with those.
Nobody makes me bleed my own blood, NOBODY!!
Got a 1996 toyota camry xle v6 3.0 that had rod knock was driving it it made a slight clanking noise lost complete power to the motor wouldn't turn over after doesn't appear to have went thru the motor or oil pan i drained the oil and there was like a gray graphite color mixed with it when this happened i wasn't going more then 35 mph could it just have completely blown the bearing and i can replace it and it be fixed
Possibly. The only way to know would be to pull the oil pan, the balance shaft and inspect the rod bearings
Good. For. You. Have. Fun😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you so much the amount this helped me is unbelievable thank you again keep up the great work : )
Good job👍🏼
Keep up the good work! 💯
Would blown head gasket cause antifreeze sludge.
It absolutely can
Great video dude! Thank you
You should have just drained your fluid
Either way. Just depends on whether you prefer to spend more on coolant
Doing rears on my sisters 2018 this weekend. Will do the " maintenance mode" for the ebrake. If doing that, will we need the windback tool or will maintenance mode fully retract the piston? Thanks!
I believe you may need to either send 12 volts from a power source to the connector to retract them or manually wind it back.
@@toethumbmechanics Ok, the kit on Amazon is only $30, so that seems easier than screwing around with electronics and connectors. Thanks!
so i got to the filter before realizing i dont have a 24mm socket or wrench, now i can't put the drain for the oil filter back in. not really sure why or if it's just finicky and i should just keep messing with it
I didn't put it back in until i removed the assembly
Good job. I think it's also applicable to 2005-2007 libbies
A good brake job not only includes cleaning and lubricating of the slide pins but also lubricating all contact surfaces, including under the abutment hardware.
Brake dust just gets into the grease and gums up those contact surfaces. Slide pins have protective boots to keep this out. Id say clean up the caliper bracket assembly and installation of new keepers are critical with cleaning and greasing the pins. But i don't see a benefit to grease in places exposed to weather and brake dust.
You replaced the power steering motor assy?
Yes. There's a controller in the gearbox that was shorted out. They're not removable. I picked up a used steering column and separated the gearbox section. The motor was still good.
Would it be a good idea to do the head stud upgrade?
Im not very familiar with these Northstar engines. I'd just do some research and weigh the benefits from people who have.
2010 - 2011 doesn't have those problems
Yea buddy that's my goal
that thumb has seen some things,
Yes it has...🤣
Meagan Fox Thumb😊
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Change the brake hose too
Now they don’t even resurface them just replace and toss the old ones don’t make them like they used to
Definitely dont make them quality anymore. They manufacture them to be just about the minimum resurfacing specifications, so you have to buy a new one.
Thats because if new discs like this gets to hot its warped and damaged the rotor anyways so no amount of resurfacing is ever going to get that rotor balanced again.
Exactly because they don’t make them as thick as they used to now there paper thin so like you said you can’t resurface and you have to buy new again
@Zirion123 the good thing was it was a new oriellys rotor and they warranty exchanged it.
Man's rocking that "stunted mechanic's thumb".😂
Every day my man🤣
My brake calipers have been on my car since new ,thats 35 years and 361,000 miles and still work great . The newer vehicles are designed to fail .
I totally agree with you. I'm surprised being that this one was a 2001 they seized. Had it been a little newer, I wouldn't have.
EASY HUH 20 MIN JOB?
No. It's definitely not a 20-minute job.
Usually when ppl say they hear a grinding noise thats what u expect, right? Not a mystery
Yea, so far, it's been 100% of the time. But you never really know.
Doing what
Guess
Rear pads and rotors, don’t forget to put into brake service mode before ruining the electric calipers
@mikestoms4015 guy just use a power probe on the negative of the electric motor why make it hard
I checked and the brake caliper can either be wound back electronically or manually without any damage. Appreciate the advice.
@@toethumbmechanics yes
put the drain plug on the filter first and then pop it into the housing. for anyone else stuck on the exact part that he skipped
3:31 shows that the drain plug was pushed into the filter housing ( I believe that's what you ment and not the filter itself) . Im sorry this hung you up, but that's exactly how i did it.
@@toethumbmechanics I couldn't get the plug to go through the hole on the housing for some reason. So I had to put it on the filter first, then put everything into the housing; it sounds weird, I know. Great video! It helped a ton <3
Hello did this work for you I have 2008 highlander without the smart key and d7 scan tool. I've been trying to program the fob key and can't seem to get to program after the battery died in it
On this type, you shouldn't need a scan tool to program your key fobs. Here are a set of instructions for programming your type of fobs for standard key fobs with separate keys www.automotiveforums.com/t965301-discuss2008_toyota_highlander_key_fob_programming.html
Thank you sir. It's a straight forward job, as expected, but I always check the You Tubes as a reference tool.
Sure, you are fast forwarding through things not naming or describing where things are . Just imagine that the people you are talking to don’t know anything about cars . As a woman I know that we get taken advantage of for not knowing .
Ok. Ill help you out. Lift the car. The drain plug comes out. After its done draining put it back. Clean the oil off. Remove and replace the filter. Lower the car and add the correct oil and don't overfill. 6.5qt. Its all in there
Here's a video i just put up on how to change your oil on a 98 Ram. I described everything the best I could. The fast forwarding or cut scene shouldn't matter as long as the information is there. th-cam.com/video/WCx4ebStuxo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7dd5Z9r4xFHbwOfF
Also, im open to answer questions if you were doing this yourself, and i unknowingly left out something you weren't sure about.
I’m having a transmission leak on my auction DTS I bought I replaced 1 cooler line fitting that’s I read is known to leak it was pretty wet n gunked up and I’m still having a leak under the car more towards the driver side I’m thinking I need to replace the lines what do you think?
Check the o ring gasket
@@toethumbmechanicsI’ll check the others then! I replaced 1 of the fittings I’m just hoping the line itself isn’t leaking
@DJKhaoticGaming hopefully not. It would be a good idea if you can pick it up compleatly off the ground. Like jackstands on all 4 sides and place it in gear so there's pressure being applied to the lines. Will help you track down the leak.
Thank you for sharing but it Looks like you are sharing these for people who already know how to change oil . Because you aren’t being very detailed . Just my opinion
Would you please elaborate
Was funny till the clip at the end lol
I thought it fit pretty well
Best part
See you were very kind. I would have glued it to the windshield.
😆 🤣 😂
i know about 50 parking lots that need this guy.
Lets make it a thing😉
Lmfao 🤣 I help someone get home by disconnecting the MAF sensor & they looked at me like if I was sent from god to help them 😅
