I'm glad TH-cam recommended this to me, you have a new sub 🙂
Glad you’re here, thanks for watching!
this is just ZERO-K
Do you like Zero-K better? I’ve seen it but have not had time to try yet. Both are cut from the same cloth of Total Annihilation and SupCom right?
Maybe you are too young to get the reference, but both came from Total Annihilation.... an even older game.... a Lot Older.... "Zero-K and BAR share their roots, they both forked from Balanced Annihilation, BAR in february 2019, Zero-K in 2007. If you have played both of these games you surely have noticed a lot of similarities. Both games run on the same open source engine - Recoil, they share maps, many widgets and even some unit models." - BAR website BAR is a lot more polished and a lot more faithful with the original game.
Generally in fiction I've seen craft like this lumped as smallcraft! Might be easier on the tongue. Nice video!
That is perfect! Works great for this game especially. Thanks for watching and the tip!
Not sure if youve ever heard of or played Creeper World 4. This for some reason reminds me of it. Give that one a shot too if you havent
Great game! I have not played in a while but I would recommend to anyone. Some similar concepts to gathering resources and scaling up. I tried the sequel IXE which is a different kind of game, it was interesting, but hoping they make CW 5 next.
Yes, games had big boxes and big manuals to go along with. Jane´s sims had 250 page manuals back then In their games, those were the times! Got a sub and thank you, I also have a wargame channel so kudos!
I miss the giant manuals! Thanks for watching!
Hello, thank you for the updates. are you planning on reviewing these games when they come out?
I’ll be trying to do reviews of many of these games as they come out! Not everything, there’s only so much time of course.
Good you followed through with the yell of acclamation that BAR quickly earns.
Since I started playing it’s been difficult to put down!
@@ExampleOfPlay You might also want to try out the previous 'flagship' game on the same engine : Zero-K. It has weirder units (like whole starting factories based around jumpbots, shieldbots, spiders), commander upgrades, terrain terraforming, a campaign... also recently added a new game mode with infinite unit upgrades. (I have a bunch of Zero-K videos linked in my TA playlist.)
@ I have it on my big list! Will try it out eventually.
I have the game but my tanks dont have the camo. They are all just a drab military green or olive color. Do i need to do something to have camo?
I don’t think you are able to select the camo right now. I’m not sure if it’s tied to particular vehicles or depends on the location of the scenario, but as far as I know you just get what you get.
good idea. I am too busy to be watching whenever there is something new
Stay tuned for more! I try to keep these short and sweet for that reason.
great video! thx
Thanks for watching!
Im really looking forward to the future of Distant Worlds 2 . I plan to give a proper indepth try this year
I think the game is in a good place now. I’m in the same boat, hoping to make some time for a deeper dive.
I know I should wait the extensions before getting civ7 but I probably won't be able to help myself.
It’s very tempting isn’t it!? I’m holding off until I see reviews and player reactions, but I might have to give in if people love it.
Oh its much worse... They shut down the forums and the folks that bought them have said they are downsizing projects that were not hitting the revenue mark of there corse business line. Its dead Jim....
For Ultimate General? I had only seen the initial reports!
This game makes for great TH-cam content
Glad you enjoyed it! I’ll probably keep doing them occasionally. It’s very easy to whip up an interesting battle and play it out.
@@ExampleOfPlay I´m very tempted to get this game, but I don´t know anything about war units, etc
Good video. Those Kurz were champs. Comment: I would suggest setting the weapon ranges to "effective" instead of "max." Your tanks were using up a lot of ammo on low percentage shots at the beginning. For infantry, I like to manually set ranges for hard targets, usually around 200m for RPGs. Otherwise, they also waste a lot of ammo on long range shots. (Check the unit info panel to see the base % to hit for their weapons at various ranges). I also think you could experiment more with have individual units manually popping smoke when under fire. By the way, the unit kills are listed under the OOB button at the top right.
Awesome! Thanks for the tips!
Well played match. Max range is fine. Killing enemy fast is usually better than conserving ammo. Particularly if aircrafts bomb your forces. Except for infantry. Being hidden is important for infantry. If you look at vehicle info, there is often stowed ammo. It takes some extra time to load from stowage. Smoke launcher is very good if you play mechanized units aggressively: Drive to where you start taking fire, pop smoke, unload infantry, drive to cover. Mortars then making more smoke screen for infantry to get into buildings is adviced. In armored Brigade II it is usually best to keep armor hidden until enemy armor is mostly dealt with and enemy air power is spent. Tanks are very expensive poinwise. If you lose them you lose the match. More so than with infantry. Yet this match between Germanies was a bit odd. Leopard 1 was a bit of an oddity for a MBT. It was a glass cannon. Lightly armored, but fast. Them using max range was definitely the best choise. Still, not many survived.
@ Thanks for the analysis! I love that this game is pretty easy to learn but the strategies and tactics can get very deep. It was tough losing so many Leopards to aircraft, but that was not surprising given how much air support the AI brought.
Nice gameplay, glad to see some AB 2 gameplay videos where its actually being played rather than short 1 episode "promos" You made a fair few risky moves there, moving the infantry up that far before dismount couldve gotten ugly fast, Always pays to have some AA in the back, either stinger teams or SPAA, i was often caught out in AB1 with enemy CAS/Helos Can you resupply units in battle or is that still a no go? Frustrating when youve got ATGM teams for example becoming useless as theyre out of ammo
Thanks for watching! Resupply in battle is on their roadmap of things they want to add. No idea on timeline. My understanding is that they want to add several features and updates before the game launches on Steam.
how the fuck do i get out of the map
Started a new scenario of Age of Wonders 4 because of this 😅
It’s so good! Love how it blends so many mechanics together seamlessly.
Thanks for the heads-up on Pacific Fire for the PC--didn't know about that!
Thanks for watching! Yeah it looks pretty good!
Excellent review. Very much in line with my feelings about the game, even down to the comparison with the brilliant movie, Annihilation. I'm in the middle of my first major game on a huge map with max player count, and it's truly epic. The way the alliances shift and move is pretty unique in my experience. I see a lot of comments on the simplistic nature of diplomacy in this game, but all I see is a complex interplay between peace, friendship and alliance, and a constant attempt by the AI to manipulate it for their own ends. I really like how the game gives you a reason as to why your ally just tore up all agreements and went to war with you. It makes everything so much more meaningful. Overall it's a gigantic improvement over Gladius. I can't wait to see where the game is in 2027.
Well said! I think giving the other factions real character and motivations adds a lot to the experience vs the usual 4x sandbox. Thanks for watching!
quite good,it gives dawn of war bibes.
Yes, it does have that feeling of fighting over the resource nodes like in Dawn of War/Company of Heroes! I’m hoping they keep refining this mode, could be really great.
Your mortar rounds number was just above the treeline along their firing line. it began at 5 and was counting down until you hit the hold fire button.
Yeah I finally figured that out later! I thought I edited some text into the video but must not have done it correctly. Thanks for watching!
Man, you know "EVERYTHING" about this game!! You must have a few hundred hours into it? I've owned it for maybe 7 years and never played it but always wanted too, and about once a year I always give it another look. Thanks for the very intuitive video though, it should help!
Believe it or not I was in the exact same boat. To make this video I simply read the manual! I’m not even that great at actually winning the game 😂
Thanks for your enthusiasm! Happy Holidays, Luke (lead)
Can’t wait to play more of it! Happy Holidays!
I one thing that always brings me back to this game over Stellaris or Sins2 is that the population on the colonies is actually real numbers that could actually exist on a planet.
Yes, so many great details that add to the immersion!
Songs of Conquest looks amazing. I want to get into Shadow Empire but it's too time consuming...
As of currently, if the submarine goes over 20 knots the torpedo wire guidance is cut. You may want to edit the clip's audio to include that detail if the focus is accurate training. It's easy to test. Shoot a wire guided torp in a diesel sub at flank and it should retain its guidance because it's less than 20 knots. If you past 20 knots on any nuclear sub, the wire guidance I believe shuts off on the torpedo. There is no need to right click on the target with manually steered torpedo, because when you do you lose the ability to manually steer it. You can just allow the torpedo to reach the selected point and it will go active without clicking on the target.
Do you know if this is accurate in real life out of interest?
Thanks for the info! Do you know if details like this are documented anywhere or just found through trial and error?
Excellent tutorial
Thank you! Stay tuned for more!
Gates of Hell just put out an update on beta with a new game mode as well this week.
Nice! I’ll add it to the list for next time
Not gonna lie, the PVP scene for WARNO and the SD games is just not fun at all. Too sweaty. PvC is more my speed unless joined by a friend.
This is epic!! What is this?
Distant Worlds 2 th-cam.com/video/MZkUU8CPtiI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=znGeIqWcPOu5oDEp
Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching! I’ve only done a couple reviews, trying to get better at it.
Those aren't even planets they are moons
Yeah I realized too late as I was zooming out!
This is a great game and honestly very easy to get into imo
With the right frame of mind it’s very easy, just play the role of making big decisions and let the AI drive the rest. Gradually learn the other mechanics as you go. But there is a lot!
Keep these coming!
I will! I’m working on different ways to gather strategy gaming news, trying to hit on the big stuff and indies.
13:59 bro has balls of steel. i was actually thinking of getting this game Im a little over Command Modern Warfare and wanted something a bit more slimmed down
It’s a nice transition and easier to get a handle on. Not as much content of course but this is still early access with more to come.
@@ExampleOfPlay I am ok with that for now yeah
Too many games look like this I swear this is like a cut and paste engine...from Gladius to this
This actually is the Gladius engine! Same developer using it for their own setting. Game plays similarly for sure, but I think the setting here is really cool.
@@ExampleOfPlay I do like the Cyberpunk aspect I wont lie
Great, easy to follow video. Thank you!
Glad it was useful! Thanks for watching!
Example, but not examplary. Still, quite entertaining. Not using 'defend'. Not using 'effective range'. Not using 'move to contact'. Not using enough mortar early. Not using tanks as mobile reserve, to punish over eager enemy. Not scooting after shooting - retreating when fired at is too late. Relying on dragons at max range, thus exposing infantry too early (dragons are bad). Exposing tanks to missiles and cluster artillery. Using 'fast move' too much - it exposes the unit to enemy. A bit room to improve gameplay there.
Thanks for the tips!
Subbed! Exactly what I was looking for. AB2 dynamic campaign!
Awesome! Glad to have you here. I’ll probably do another one soon with a different faction matchup.
Oh hell yeah a new Runequest game! The screenshots make it look a lot like Battlesector but with a proper campaign, which was my biggest problem with Battlesector, so I'm looking forward to it.
Glad you’re excited! It’s not a setting I’m very familiar with, but seems pretty cool!
@ExampleOfPlay If you haven't seen them before, there have been a couple of very good strategy games based off the setting that I would recommend playing (the excellent King of Dragon Pass from 1999 and its much more recent sequals in the Six Ages games), but they were much more focused on narrative so combat was more an important thing that happened during events than a main focus. The best comparison I have is to say they are like a text-based frostpunk, focused on building up resources to survive whatever the setting throws at you. The main Runequest product is a TTRPG, but the setting originally started as a wargame (Warhammer Fantasy's beastmen were originally Runequest models) so it looks like this game will serve the more combat focused side of the setting. From the trailer it definitely looks like they get the vibe of the setting, so I'm very much looking forward to it.
Its kind of funny you named him Capt. Reynolds, since the commander above Capt. Bannon in Team Yankee is Lt. Col. Reynolds. Perhaps this campaign was a training exercise in his time being a combat tanker, part of an Able Archer exercise.
It has been a long time since I read that book! Perhaps it bubbled up subconsciously!
Nice attack run
This is why I put this game on the shelf. The dynamic campaign is a skeleton of what it should be for a single player only game. The enemy is indeed fresh for every mission. CAS/AH allocation is out of proportion for the sizes of forces involved. No way a company engagement would involve 3-4 CAS missions but at the same time artillery support costs about 2 times what CAS costs... The only way to play a campaign right now is to essentially fudge the points in your favor to account for the fact the enemy doesn't take attrition, or use very gamey tactics (ie: go recon heavy and airstrike everything).
I agree, though they say improvements are planned, there's a thorough complaint on this topic on the forum. In the meantime, you could spend a ton of points, short the enemy, and only use a portion of your force in an engagement so you have 'reserves' in later missions. still frustrating to work around and has its own issues but at least you don't end up fighting a full-strength battalion with a shattered platoon. LASt workaround is you can also set the balance of how the ai spends points in 'advanced' when generating, so shorting cas/boosting arty may help get a better distribution and these presets can be saved. Hopefully improvements come soon but it still scratches the wargame itch for me.
Seems like something screwy happened with this campaign. In the final battle they deployed 50 vehicles? And 6 helicopters and nearly 200 infantry? They must have had at least 3 or 4 times more points to spend than you. Which is odd considering how they got beaten at the start of the campaign. You took 1 loss and could only refit to ~60-70% strength.. Yet they kept getting bigger and bigger with each battle -- even after losses.
Agreed! I thought I would get more points as I retreated but it was always about the same while they seemed to get stronger with each battle. Not sure if working as intended. I’m hoping to see the dynamic campaign fleshed out more, like maybe letting you buy auxiliary forces to supplement the core in each battle, and tracking enemy losses from battle to battle as well, as I think they are fresh each time.
@ExampleOfPlay I've been waiting for the game to come to Steam while I continue to get crushed in the first game! Hoping it gets some solid patches and mods between then. But yea, that would definitely be cool if campaigns had more ways to actually alter your forces / earn additions to it. And I'm always for having more statistics tracked!! I love seeing how many kills my units rack up at the end of a campaign in any Combat Mission game, but for Armored Brigade it would be cool to see how many points each side had in every battle, how and why that number changed, etc.. I'm thinking maybe something happened where since they were attacking 3 times in a row it just continued to multiply some number that it shouldn't have been
The move to 3D really is a game changer! Very cool campaign, looking forward to the next episode. :)
It’s been good fun so far! Excited to try other combinations of units over time, the force mix really impacts what tactics are viable.
This is real common sense tactics, compared to the bigger war gaming channels where they just F around and find out with a sim like this.
Ha! Well I tried to make the most of what I had. Worked on the first objective, then things fell apart a bit. Maybe should’ve withdrawn to save some losses.
@ExampleOfPlay Regardless you adapted, this kind of gameplay is better than the run-of-the-mill opps, might as well yeet it all or freeze and see what happens.
Glad to see your campaign going. I struggle a lot in mine when I have to attack. Well it depends on the terrain, but I really have no clue how to operate in close combat. My units have trouble spotting enemies in buildings or woods, I lost a whole tank company to what I think was an bmp of sorts and not a single one was able to spot it, only the infantry after and even they got obliterated. It's not like that in every battle however. Just when the enemy has to defend. Id like to see how you approach an attack, I can't wrap my head around what I'm doing wrong
We’ll see how it goes! It was certainly a learned skill in the modern setting Combat Mission games, but there you could force units to fire on likely enemy positions to suppress them at least. Here you have to hope they spot something to shoot at.
I also prefer easy mode as the game doesnt have smart enough AI for the pixeltruppen. A tank doesnt need a 60 second delay to retreat from under fire.
Yeah I decided especially for a smaller scenario where every unit counts, the finer control is needed. In a really big scenario it would make more sense to have some delay to reflect the scale of operations.
In AB1 you could use disabled waypoints for that. But yeah, for company level scenarios the delay is too much
Is this Roblox?
I think
It’s a wargame, Armored Brigade 2. Kinda like if WARNO had simpler graphics but a more of a realistic simulation under the hood.
@ ok thx
@ is it mobile?
It’s on PC, not released on Steam yet but will eventually. www.matrixgames.com/game/armored-brigade-ii
Hey mate! Good video. Did you generate the campaign? Or downloaded it? I cant find it listed
I generated it, sorry if that wasn’t clear. I deliberately made it in a storm so I could give it some flavor and a cool name haha.
