Installing an Amazon Skid Plate on the Yamaha TW200. The quality is surprising!

    My third time watching this video and just subscribed. I read your bio and thought about the over engineered project bit. I over engineer ideas for projects until they seem unrealistic. This and a thousand different projects currently incomplete or not even started combined with work, side work, house, family and bike stuff with bike friends and I feel paralyzed. Your hydro brake switch is slick tho. Props. I ride and am paying on a DS that I purchased new in ‘21. I’ll throw a vid of my switch fix on my channel, and give your vid info. I’m going to do your fix eventually. Planning to ride the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail in June. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos especially the DS adv mods one.

Your comment is motivation for me to edit and upload more videos, I have 3-4 at least that I have filmed the entire project, completed them, and I just haven’t edited them. • @ADHDiy_Guy
      @ADHDiy_Guy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question, I would say that the volume ranges anywhere from “not noticeably louder” to 10% louder, give or take. Really not bad. The heat is no different in my experience. It can still be hot and radiate heat, but it did that with the stock skid plate too. The airflow through the skid plate holes really must help with wicking the heat away underneath so it isn’t trapped with nowhere else to go but up. After many scrapes and bumps, and an easy removal for an oil change since I installed it, it’s been 10/10 - would recommend.

    I had the OEM grip warmers installed by Ducati shortly after purchasing my 2018 Desert Sled. Used them for my winter rides to work. After talking to other riders with other brands of heated grips, I have concluded the OEM Ducati heated grips don't put out the heat like other brands. In fact, my hands are still cold during winter rides. Almost a waste for me to have the Ducati OEM heated grips installed. Wish I would've went with another brand.

    I have the same bike and wanted to put heated grips. I knew that Ducati was going to charge me so I decided to just have them do my oil change and when they tried to charge me the 75 to $80 activation fee I explained that they're basically charging me $75 to $80 to click one button (enable) due to the fact that they were already connecting my ECU to their computer as part of their normal service protocol for simple oil changes. They didn't charge me. 75 to $80 for the heated grip activation is ridiculous as they literally are clicking one button. This should be activated from the factory anyway! On another note I bought those same foot pegs (JRG) and I can't understand how you got those to fit. The mounting flange that sticks out lines up with the mounting flanges that the stock foot Pegs sit in. Mine is a 2018 so I'm not sure if there's a slight different in the width of the foot Peg mounting flange.

    • @ADHDiy_Guy
      @ADHDiy_Guy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I should have fought for it a bit more, as I also did had mine activated with a regular service/oil change. I hope folks that are thinking of doing this mod see your comment so they can make the same argument. As far as the footpegs, I hope I didn’t mislead you to buy them with my video! I got them for our TW200 but my wife didn’t like them. I had to take my cutoff wheel and grind them down on each side, as well as flatten the angled end a little in order for them to fit the Ducati. I probably weakened them but so far they have held up - I bring my oem pegs with me in my bag any time I go off road just in case.

    • @fuganetti
      @fuganetti 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ADHDiy_Guy No you're good on the foot pegs! I see how you modded them but the ones they sent me simply wouldn't. I know how to weld and modded the rear brake pedal so i'll probably just do the same to the stock pegs.

I wouldn’t say we have put it through the “ringer” since we aren’t great at riding off road yet but we have taken it off road a handful of times since the skidplate has been installed and it has handled some tree roots and rocks getting kicked up no problem. The TW has even run into a tree during a hill climb and gotten stuck on the skidplate edge, and I don’t think it has shown any weakness yet. Also, this was the hardest day of riding I have had on the Sled by far. There were a lot of invisible baby head rocks that blended in with the red rock, and I was nursing an unrelated knee injury going into that day of riding. It’s a great bike combo. Not noticeably at all, I was expecting it to be at least a little bit louder and was just hoping for “quieter than the ricochet plate” and honestly it is probably the same as stock because the sound has somewhere to escape to. If it is louder, you would need another tw200 right next to it for comparison in order to even notice.

      @@spoonf20c I agree that the $18 price point made it a no brainer, but now that I have tested it under load, I would pay $75 for it.

    Good job! I’m looking for Oem warmers for my DS and had no idea the additional cost to get them activated after installation.

      @ADHDiy_Guy ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah I was surprised as well to learn about the activation cost, but it is very convenient to have the OEM controls, so hopefully this video can help save some people money with their Scramblers.
