If it's cultural appropriation for a white kid to play a ninja in D&D, then isn't it cultural appropriation for a black kid to play a knight? The answer to both is "no". All of this nonsense is about marketing. If you're black or female ( untapped buying markets to WoTC ) the message is that "You always wanted to play D&D but those old white men wouldn't let you"! "Now is your chance, go buy..I mean play because they can't stop you anymore"! The worse part is they know what it was like to be a gamer back then. They could have have given us our flowers at last. They could have called us heroes in a way for keeping the game alive despite heavy social pressure. But we're back to being the equivalent of Devil Worshipers. They chose to do that to us. Again. I hate them like I should.

Basic had your Race as your class if not human! 1E had no skills! 2E added skills, specialty priests and Kits(like a subclass)! 1E and 2E gave each race a list of classes and levels for that class achievable by that race! Humans could dual class, while non humans could multiclass! Each class had their own XP chart, a 2nd level mage had the same XP as a level 3 thief! 3E created a lot of the systems that other WotC D&D versions still use! 4E was the MMO style edition! D&D like most of the original TTRPG's were played by us Freaks, Geeks and other people that didn't fin in normal society which included people that are now the LGBTQIA+! Halfraces basically included Elves, Dwarves, Elemental(Genasi), Upper Planar(Aasimar) and Lower Planar(Tiefling)! 42 years of TTRPG experience! My favorite TTRPG's and systems: 1-Cypher(generic), 2-Teenagers From Outer Space(anime), 3-Gamma World 4E(not based on D&D 4E)(post apocalyptic), 4-All Flesh Must be Eaten(zombie), 5-Battlelords of the 23rd Century(sci-fi), 6-Pathfinder 1E(fantasy), 7-5E(fantasy), 8-Palladium system(generic), 9-AD&D(fantasy), 10-Shadow of the Demon Lord(sci-fantasy/horror) and 11-Star Frontiers(sci-fi)

And that clearly and perfectly illustrates why I will never again in my life put a single penny into WOTC's pockets.

Politicization within the framework of D&D is part of its core. The issue I perceive with the current move to alter D&D is that people who doesn't care for the franchise change it to align with external politics and personal morality. D&D can be played as your own smorgasbord of political and ideological pandering and strictly mechanically with little narrative embellishment and characterization. One case in point where I disagree with the current change in D&D is the slow move away from races (Mechanically) and make them a kind of flavor. I've played ADnD, 2nd edition, 3d edition, 3.5th edition, 4th edition, and 5th edition (Which is where the move away from hard coded races begun in earnest after Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything). Now "race" is called "specie" and you pick your origin. A nice idea, if it was paired with hard coded races and added origin as a tack-on. Since D&D's conception race were a way to allow players make characters distinct from others mechanically and superficially, to force players to mind strengths and weaknesses. It is fun to play a orc Wizard or a dwarven rogue because their races isn't tailored for these classes: it's a challenge and it provides inspiration for RP. PS: They are races because they can interbreed. The moment two different 'races' can't interbreed with one another they are separate species.

The old versions of D&D were very different. It was always multicultural but did not push it so much, too much. There's too much politics in everyday life, do we need it in fantasy game?

Not sure why I watched this...I generally agree with the video creator, but this is such layer-cake of responses to responses. The video is responding to another video that's reacting to a forward and an article that are responding to D&D...I seriously have no idea how I got here...I play D&D, generally feel like WotC might go a little bit harsh on the reaction towards the less than PC stuff from thier past, but get why they are covering thier asses/prefacing the original material for new generations...this thought did not take an hour...where am I? The original d&d setting that pretty much nobody nowadays knows about. The setting that everyone nowadays knows about is the forgotten realm setting. And that was created by the Canadian Ed greenwood at the age of 6 years old and then he sold the rights to the forgotten realms after he graduated from college if I remember correctly. So no Gary and Dave did not create the world that we all know and love. Ed greenwood created the world that we all know and love.

I think the article has some undue criticism of what has been pointed at, but some genuine criticism does come in when you read some of the really old monster descriptions. Th original ork description was pretty racist when seen through modern understanding. That has since been backed off, and the creators were a product of their time and they both improved as people over their lives, they learned and made changes to undo those mistakes. I think it speaks to their character that they were willing to grow beyond their own ignorant views and misunderstandings. I don't know if their depictions were racially motivated or if it was just a marketing decision or if they didn't understand what that impact would have, they have grown past that. Hopefully this gives some perspective on the history of the game and it's creators.

I started D&D in 1980 (I was in 5th grade)! I'm running a 5E campaign in North East Japan now! You can say a lot of tropes used is a mix bag of 80's action movies/ 80's swords & sorcery/heavy metal magazine/Savage Sword of Conan. I have used some of my wartime experiences in Afghanistan & Iraq as a template for some encounters. I'm keeping it gritty and entertaining. May your rolls be natural 20!

I'm gonna steel man the "half elves are racist" thing a bit because although I don't agree with the sentiment, nearly every refutation of it, even Metatron's here, misses the point of what is being claimed. It's not that they're saying being mixed elf or mixed orc and human is inherently racist. They're saying that calling that mixed character half elf or half orc is what's racist. Emphasis on the word "half" because that implies that they are lesser. They're not a whole person if they're half something. There's also the issue that the unspoken part of that half is always human. And when we look at real world constructions of half X, especially in North America, the unspoken part is the implied majority. So in America, if I were to have said even five years ago that someone was half black, it would be implied that the other half was white. If that person was half black and half Chinese, a person would say he's half black/half Chinese. They would feel like there's a need to specify. Whereas if they're half white and half black, it feels like you don't need to specify white because white is the majority and thus the dominant default choice. As such, Incould see skmeone who looks for racism to believe that having thatbinsppken default is somewhat racist. I personally don't agree that "half-elf" or "half-orc" are racist, but if you are going to refute the point it is important to try to understand why the other side claims the term, not the character/person, is inherently racist.

You're mostly responding to his claims about the text, which are straw man arguments, without actually knowing the text he is criticizing. For example the included draft of the game includes prices for enslaved people. The game itself presents that information without judgment, which is what the disclaimer is criticizing, correctly IMO, when they say that the game presents slavery without duly presenting it as evil. You're providing an excellent example of why straw man arguments work, because you're taking everything he says at face value even though he's not really presenting ingenuous arguments.

As Metalhead said - the If It's Legal bit refers to them committing to stocking all factions that will be available for Competitive play, however at the cost of 40 warbands being only available for Legends (casual) play. This will be the 4 Embergard new warbands, and 16 of the older ones undergoing rerelease.

I believe Warhammer Underworlds has had 58 different warbands throughout the years since its inception. And since many of those early warbands have not been purchasable/out of production and have still been good/strong throughout the games history, it has led to many feel bad moments for newer players with no real chance to buy them (without paying a lot on Ebay). So in order to keep the game more fair and balanced, as well as make it easier on the rules writers... they're probably just going to hold onto a few of the more recent warbands they're still making from the last edition of the game "a la - If it's legal" moving forward in addition to whatever new warbands come out in the future.

Yo no he tenido esos problemas, la cuestión es lijar bien las piezas y te encajarán, como tú también reforcé los interiores con palitos pero el encolado no me supuso problemas alguno, he comprado tres y los tengo en módulos no pegados, en cada caja te sobran piezas por lo que puedes hacer las torres pequeñas sin necesidad de tener esa apertura de acople, la puerta principal la hice más alta y ancha ya que un carro con caballos no pasa por allí, arriba he puesto un mecanismo manual para poder subir y bajar la verja de entrada, como hay muchas puertas algunas las he tapiado, también he hecho una especie de capilla con unas escaleras anchas para subir, al estar los módulos sin encolar puedo hacer el castillo según me convenga y luego guardarlo, es cuestión de paciencia pero si te lo montas bien puedes hacer muchas combinaciones, saludos desde Barcelona👍

I was one of the early patrons of Roll for Combat. I liked their work. Once some of their founders demonstrated leftist leanings I excused myself from their collective and don't give a dang about them, their opinions, or their existence since. However, on the topic of D&D '24 or whatever it's called now... what difference does it make how good it sells? Oh my, the internet and mobile technology have marketed a new shiny to the Gen Z and Gen A masses while wearing the skin of a quality product that needed word of mouth and literal typewriter publication via snail mail to become a worldwide phenomenon. *shrug* Maybe I'm a jaded Elder Millenial/ Junior X'er, but I don't care anymore. I lost all of my nerdy friends to the culture war and my conservative friends are too busy homesteading to pay attention to WotC or any of the pop culture wars anymore. I appreciate YOUR contributions to the hobby. Excellent games and design concepts. As for the main stream, though... na. Marks.

Nuce review. The details came out nice. For ligvt colors like this, giving the minis a bit of wash can bring out the details on camera. But worked out fine here. Looking forward to binge your channel, too few talk small scales!

This is a good alternative. Since GW ups the prices for the old Lotr line. And the new stuff looks ass. Some wor with these and I think one is up for some wargaming.
