DISEMBODIED TYRANT // SYNESTIA // Death Empress // Bass cover
I was quite late to hear this EP but once I did I was really impressed with everything from the way the music was composed to the production.
I've always been weak for big atmospheric symphony parts, blast beats and breakdowns and they really got everything to glue well together.
Ville Hokkanen's precision in his voice is really something to be impressed by and he has now became one of my top favorite vocalist.
I have chosen to use several different tunings as some riffs are so fast that I have to base them around an open string. You'll see what I mean when you watch the video.
I have transcribed the whole song myself and definitely don't think everything is right, but I see it more as a challenge and a chance to show how I would have written the bass myself if I was given the chance.
This might be my top favorite release of 2024.

Another Meshuggah cover to the books. I decided to give it a try after randomly see it get mentioned on different places and then when I saw Yogev Gabay do an analysis video of it, it was settled. Once you get to understand the patterns everything gets quite logic. Main tuning I use is drop F0 but som sections in the first half of the song is in drop E0. AARU // Collapse // bass cover Short
มุมมอง 227หลายเดือนก่อน
Asked the guitarist and singer in Aaru if I could try to play one of their songs and here is the result. Aaru is a progressive metalcore/THALL band from Reykjavík, Iceland. This is quite a fast song with alot of string skipping from lowest string to highest string sometimes. So I thought I would incorporate as much hybrid picking as possible in this one. I added some beatiful aerial video phota...

JOB FOR A COWBOY // Beyond The Chemical Doorway // Bass cover
มุมมอง 6292 หลายเดือนก่อน
A long time ago, someone wrote and suggested that I should do a cover of one of Job For a Cowboy's new albums. I started listening and soon realized that it will be a lot of work! This album is absolutely incredibly well written! My two spontaneous thoughts were immediately that it is very gratifying to hear that the bass player has been given a very prominent role both in the mix and in creati...
MESHUGGAH // In Death - Is Life & In Death - Is Death // One-take bass cover
มุมมอง 5612 หลายเดือนก่อน
long ago I think I originally first asked Calder Hannan from@metalmusictheory5401if he wanted to do some kind of collab with me, but it didn´t really happen, then he asked me if I was interested in participating in a full band one-take cover of In Death - Is Life & In Death - Is Death by Meshuggah and I obviously said yes. One-take meant that we needed to nail this song from start to end. that'...
RUSH // YYZ // Bass cover

Many times different people have told me that I should listen to something other than metal and play other styles of music to develop as a bassist. All said and done, I stretched myself beyond my comfort zone that I dared to perform a Rush song. I quickly realized that this was very different from what I'm used to playing. I can usually handle the fact that something is not recorded after a cli...
MNEMIC // Liquid // Bass cover

When I heard that Mnemic reunited I dived into their discography to choose a song for a bass cover. As you all know I like to challenge my picking hand, which is why I chose this song! I listened to Mnemic some years during the mid 2000s but haven't much since. Enjoy! Like the video if you liked it or dislike it if you didn´t, either way, leave your thoughts down in the comments. These twitchy riffs mess with my brain but when I finally got the muscle memory to kick in, they're not that hard to pull off :) I found a tab on the internet but the more I listened and compared I thought it didn't quite match. I spent several hours watching live clips on TH-cam where I compared hand patterns and movements to understand how the riff was played and also which notes were correct...

I saw that Fear Factory posted about a fill-in bassist when needed and ready through the must-haves and I hate tequila so I won't apply :D..... Guitars in G0?.... then I guess I need to go for G-1 then If I'm going to continue living the way I teach, I'm always going to play the bass an octave below the guitar, so it's just a matter of delivering. Is it an easter joke? Check it out to find out. Thank you Carcosa and Andrew Baena for pushing the limits and all hail the 0's! Like the video if you liked it or dislike it if you didn´t, eit...

THE ZENITH PASSAGE // The Axiom of Error + Algorithmic Salvation // Dual Bass cover
มุมมอง 8596 หลายเดือนก่อน
I am very excited to release this double cover. I have been struggling hard for the past two weeks to learn both of these songs. I had to learn to use the fingers of my right hand to pluck the strings while holding the plectrum, which was something new for me. These songs are very fun to play. Thank you Brandon for the inspiration and motivation to become a better bass player. Like the video if...

3:27 I want to hear that low F!
Fire af man, love the sound of those strings Don't know if you do requests, but it'd be insanely cool to hear Etched in Oblivion with that bass
Nice. Haven’t given these guys a listen before even though I see them recommended a lot. Definitely going to dive into their library.
Definitely worth it!
Super impressive and your effort is inspirational!! And you make it look too easy, great work!
Thank yo u so much, what exactly is offensive bias music? Sounds interesting.
@DannyJ_bass oh thanks! It's my instrumental midicore project. All the instruments are programmed midi.
Can I listen to it?
@@DannyJ_bass Yes! I have an album titled 'Mission: Redux' on all streaming platforms. My yt channel has some new stuff on it too. Thank you I hope you like it!!

Nice playing! You make it look so effortless!
Thanks! I always try to arrange what to play so it is as economical as possible in these speeds.
Goddamn that is sick as fuck!
Thanks!
sick as always bro!
Thank you so much 👏
throwback, love this song
Tabs or by ear, awesome cover. Just found this band
Actually 3 different ways combined 😄 found guitar tabs online that seemed reasonably accurate and used them as base for what to play on bass. For the parts where the bass is following the guitars it is pretty straight forward but alot happens in between and during the riffs that wasn't tabed. So for those parts I use my ears and watch Brandon's playthroughs to actually see what he plays when I wasn't sure on what I heard was right. Thanks alot, and super awesome band!
Sounds great but im afraid the mix of the full band may not of heard it during performance. tell me how it went live and if i was wrong
Man, this clip is 6 years old! Sound engineer probably buried it in the mix haha
@@DannyJ_bass lol I didn't know haha, still gnarly, during soundtrack I would always play the song of healing from majoras mask and the Mario bros theme
solid run again bro. Nice.
Well played! Seriously. been listening to this album non stop. I have to ask.. does your dingwall sound insane naturally? Or are you using something like a darkglass harmonic booster? You're tone is seriously metal as fuck bro lol.
Thank you! What do you mean with naturally? Like acoustically? I only use a darkglass b7k clone for the gain and shitloads of different pre and post EQ and a compressor before everything.
Illegal toan
what a sic tone man, best bass Covers in TH-cam, im your subscriber since 2022
Thank you so much, really appreciate it!
The GOAT is back with yet another video! Great cover Danny! :)
Thank you sir!
Snyggt som fasen! 👏🔥
Tack o bock!
Amazing, as always! This song taught me that I was actually not capable to play pull offs correctly. When practising this song, you learn a lot about string skipping and fast pull off execution. In the same category, I would include Pravus. I am evolving in parallel on both songs as they have similar technical requirements.
Thanks! Yes, correct. Good analysis. I have prepared to also do Pravus but other songs got in the way 😊
This cover just kicked me back to the rookie level 😅 You seem so relaxed while playing this crazy bass line. That's really awesome 👍
Wow! Not used to getting comments on these old covers haha. Thank you very much.
How you make this tone! Dude🤯🤯🤯
Dingwall + line 6 helix
i like that this was done with a pick cuz i play with a pick too
Wait, did you really tune your bass down a whole tritone? Are the strings not floppy as hell?
Nope, digital pitching. Bass is tuned to drop A.
wicked tone
Awesome cover and clean playing!
Thank you!
Real totenkopf tone on the dingwall 🤘💀 Well played! 👏
Indeed! Thanks!
whats the scale length of this bass? Edit: misspelled
37"
@@DannyJ_bass awesome, I like it
love it ! how I wish to play like that, what a feeling!
Thank you so much! It's a really loose good feeling to play this, I really wished I could write stuff like this but when I try I just unintentionally copy/paste stuff.
When I need more bass, I always have Daniel
I'll always here for you
Truly confused why you chose to go with such an aggressive tone, but otherwise this is phenomenal man. Extremely close to whats on the track.
One reasons is that it is my go to tone that I use for everything basically. Love it or hate it, I get 99% love for my tone and it has been with me since a couple of years. And also it's a really good tone for metal mixes. Of course it is to loud in my covers but that is intentional. Thank you! Would be so fun to actually get to know how it was exactly played.
Nice, schiendzelos is a beast.
He has been unknown to me before unfortunately but made a big impression when I heard JFC. He is a awesome bass player!
@@DannyJ_bass yeah the first 2 tracks off of sun eater blew my mind lol. Still one of my fav albums and probably always will be.
The only band to have two rhythm guitars and a lead bassist 😅 Sick playing!
Love it!
You killed it man.
Thanks!
sick track, great job. sounds amazing on a dingy
Agreed! Thanks!
What tuning?
Drop C
Hell yeah! Perfectly done as always! Keep it up! \m/
Thanks! Doing my best!
Finnaalllyyy someone tuning the bass to F0, it sounds so much fatter that way!
Thats has become one of my "things", that I always tune one octave below the guitars on my Meshuggah covers.
Lövgren is a beast and you are too for this!
Great song! You nailed it!
Thank you!
You did this song justice, I just hate the sound of Dings
Thanks, do you hate how all dingwalls sound or just these heavily distorted tones?
Your tone sounds like a swarm of pissed off megahornets. Fucking awesome!
Especially playing these riffs :D
Straight fire. Amazing
Thank you!
Those pows with my earphones, was not expecting that
Always expect the unexpected
Insane cover and bass tone! This is the first Meshuggah track I've listened to. Still my favorite one
Fan vad grymt! Det satt ju som en smäck det där!
Jodå, efter ett tag så haha
An octave below the original, as it should've been done. Awesome shit, man.
Don't know if it was possible then to get a decent sound. 😊
@@DannyJ_bass You definitely got it man, it growls.
Watching this makes me wish Meshuggah considered downtuning their bass to F0.
I don't think anyone could bare that heaviness live 😉
I think the bass in unison is great for some parts but there's other places where going down the octave would sound cooler. For example the last stretch of rational gaze would be great to finish off the song with the low tuned bass. But it's probably inconvenient for live shows to have to switch to a bass with a different tuning.
F0 meshuggah is insane, peak brvtal
Didn't actually think of that, but yeah it's F0
@@DannyJ_bass keep it up we love it!
And here's my favorite man once again. Thanks for this cover! The sound, execution and overall experience is astonishing. You should have thousands of subscribers if not more! That Dingwall is a beast in your hands!
Thank you so much!
