I could feel your pain on that last climb, you actually went too deep for my liking. I'd only bury myself this much if I had a solid shot at winning.

Some suggestions: can you move your video down so we can see the koms? Can you replace kj with w/kg? Can you add the power/heart graph to the bottom? Good effort giving it your all on that last climb!
Yeah, these are all good, thank you! I did remove the heart rate graph at the bottom for the first race in the new category because I didn’t want to focus too much on it. I’ll add it back
I just did this today with a ZRS of 328 but opted for the 330-450 range like you. I couldn't hold on to the front group and by end of lap 1 I was in a second group 30 seconds behind the lead group. Some really strong riders in that range.
Nice work! It’s hard to race up a category, especially on this route. But a great way to improve 👍

Train harder, it's not a race, it's a fight for survival, you can't react to any acceleration. I'm not writing maliciously, in general your entire riding is about not pedaling as much as possible and riding on draft. You won't get in shape that way :( I wish you a lot of wins.
Yeah, I think the higher category will help me improve. Training a bit more would certainly help. I like the racing, but trying to start doing some Z2 along with it

Great performance man! I like your contain on this follow you for a long time. I dont Zwift but do spin a lot! I can also mirror myself in you as I have more or less same Ftp as you have and my average watts also lay close to yours when doing a challange on my spin bike. But your second attempt on this course fits you better the group etc xompared to first attempt.

I just finished this one, those 4 three minute efforts are brutal and each one is tougher than the previous one. Like you this group 330-450 is right in my sweet spot(410).

I feel your pain. I got dropped nearly at the same point on the last lap. I managed to fire a last bullet to get back to the pack but the subsequent mini-kicker up to the KOM banner was my end. Fantastic suffering. Well done!

300W @ 92HR time for an upgrade. I too have been having fun issues with my HR. sometimes it takes 5 minutes to connect.

My HR belt stops working after ~30 minutes, is either because is getting too wet either something is wrong with the belt itself. It is starting to show constant and lower HR, until it gets locked to 50-60, when I am almost dead at the end of a race. Transmitter is fine, i changed the battery and has no connection issues. I consider replacing the belt only. Nice race and as always: a pleasure watching you suffer!
Yeah, I’ve had varying issues with mine as well which haven’t been battery related. It might be time for a new one.

After that I think I'll just be giving this a miss 😁 I hate that route and to do 4 laps of it is torture 😱 I'd get lapped easily in the 270-390 group. Might try the 210-330 as I'd be a bit more middle rank than bottom. Great effort 👏

Way to stay with it and taking a dig at the end. Hope you get your connection issues worked out. Do you have a Bluetooth dongle with an extension cable?
I have a Bluetooth extender which helped with my Zwift play connection, but the trainer has always been connected via ANT+ and that has just randomly stopped working the last few rides. Haven’t been able to diagnose it yet so I’ve just been connecting everything via the companion app open on my phone. That has seemed to work alright in the meantime.
@ using the phone bridge is a good workaround. Hope you are able to get your play controllers to connect. Steering is important.

Great work! I did this race with 60+ riders and finally got dropped on lap4 climb but the whole race was attritional. Even harder with your small field from the start I think - there was no real chance to share the work and chase back on during the descents.
Yeah, a bigger group would’ve been nicer. I wouldn’t have stuck with the front, but maybe had a bigger pack to ride with

You've got 4 stages in the Shimano series to grab a podium slot. I know you can do this! Race must have 35+ riders to qualify. One shot each stage. 3rd place: $10, 2nd place: $15, 1st place: $25. Dig deep. You can do it!

I didn't realize it was this strong for 390's, I just hit 650+ but only manage 3.9w/kg for 20m.
Haha, I wouldn’t say “only”, that’s some impressive power. And at 650+ that means you know how to be efficient with it as well 💪

Way to suffer! This month's stages are going to be tough, but they'll make you stronger. Like others have said, try Range 2 and/or preferably a larger group to give more margin of error. Another tip, if you don't want to specifically train for these short bursts and recovery, try the Tiny Races on Saturdays. Full gas+, recover, and repeat.
Yes, I’ll definitely try the other range and larger groups for the remainder of these. And yeah, I had done sprint races last year which I think really helped. That or tiny races may be a good addition
I got my podium (3rd) on the last Flat is Fast, all three of us within 1/3 of a second. Moved to ZRS of 379.
On this one I was fourth , there was 4 of us within 1/2 second, ZRS 385. I’ll try Range 2 if I get bumped up.

I raced this yesterday. (2nd place - yay me.). I was surprised how split up we were by the second lap. And now watching you, I can see how those little climbs really stretch the group.

Especially if you are just above 390, Range 2, 330-450 might be another option to make that category jump not quite as dramatic. Range 1 and Range 2 was one of the smarter things Zwift did with ZRS changes. Separately, this is just a tough route - it's basically 3 minute on / 3 minute off critical power intervals - repeatability on those successive climbs can get brutal - even more so when you are up a category and having to stretch further above power to stay with the pack on the climb.

Yeah, I’m certainly going to look at the middle tier. This jump with such a small group was brutal. I think a larger group of 40+ would be better as I could’ve found my group. But hopefully these continue to make me stronger. Thanks for the comments!

My Whoop also under reports my HR during the race / rides. It somewhat sorts itself out in the post race upload to ZwiftPower and TrainingPeaks. Kind of annoying, but also not the worst thing to happen during a race.
Yeah, it came through at the last second when my HR strap wasn’t working, so I was happy for that even if it wasn’t very accurate 👍

Thank, I think you’re right! The hardest thing for me to get right after the layoff from Zwift is cadence in the sprints. I had the power in the legs but was just spinning too fast to keep up here

Nice race, my race was similar, most everyone in it to the end. I was 6th or 7th but stayed under the ZRS 390 so I’ll be able to try again for podium if I get a chance.

It's like there's a bug in the finish line because it took your results from your position about 2 seconds after the banner.
Yeah, I think it may take a few seconds to calculate everything, since I think it’s usually delayed. But it’s always tough to know exactly where you land for close finishes. I was surprised to see I got 2nd as it looked like I could’ve easily been 3rd or 4th based on where my avatar was at the finish.
@@CaedmonCycling Either that or the rider position presented to you by your zwift client was not in synch with where the "server" though you were at the finish. Odd.
Zwift accounts for ping and latency when it comes to the finishing time. But not for the visual positioning of racers during the race.

Eating gels for a 30 min race? You have enough in the tank. If you have not eaten, do it before the race instead of during a very short race for which you do not need anything. If you ever race (or do a sprint during a group ride), please don't do the stand up sit down repeats. Very dangerous.
Yeah, I hadn’t eaten for awhile before the race so I had half the gel during the warmup and finished it during the race. I figured it wouldn’t be that helpful, but also couldn’t hurt. Yeah, definitely not sprinting like that outside. I have long legs so it’s easier to sprint outside where I can move the bike more. I haven’t quite figured out the indoor sprints fully.
The new pack dynamics are extremely hard on lightweight riders. that’s not my experience. I’m 55kg and on flats I need to push way more watts to stay in the pack. I feel something has changed recently. On this particular race I averaged 3.5W/Kg to get a top 10 while heavier riders are barely at 3.0W/Kg. I’m make sure not to waste watts and draft efficiently but with the new update I just need to push lots more watts. What do you think?
Yeah, these flat races are definitely made for the heavier riders. I think raw watts is more important for flat routes while w/kg reigns king for climbs and sprints.
I’m not a zwifter, although I’ve done road cycling in the past. I’m considering getting a zwift set up but for now, just watching while I walk on the treadmill. Nice to have someone else suffering on the hill climbs with me hahaha. Thank you 🙏
