Bear 650 vs Interceptor 650 vs Himalayan 450 | Tackling Bangalore Roads & Scrambler Test Ride!
Welcome to Keepin’ It Real with Alroy Menezes! In this video, I hit Bangalore's / Bengaluru's infamous roads to test the all-new Royal Enfield Bear 650, the much-loved Interceptor 650, and the adventure-ready Himalayan 450.
Starting at Avahan Motors, the experience kicked off with a seamless test ride-big thanks to the authorized Royal Enfield dealership - Avahan Motors for making it smooth and hassle-free! First, I explore how the Bear 650, with its scrambler DNA, tackles the city's potholes and chaotic traffic. Its 43mm Showa inverted forks and dual-purpose MRF Nylorex-X tires made for an exciting ride, but how does it compare to the Interceptor 650’s refined road handling and classic charm?
For the off-road enthusiasts, I also tested the Bear 650 against the Himalayan 450, a bike that’s purpose-built to dominate rough terrain. Can the Bear hold its own, or is it better suited for light trails and urban adventures?
I also check out the Royal Enfield Goan Classic 350, newly launched at the recently concluded RE flagship annual Motoverse event.
I wrap up the video with my personal verdict: Should you pick the scrambler Bear 650, go with the rugged Himalayan 450, or stick with the trusted Interceptor 650? Watch till the end to find out!
Shoutout to Avahan Motors in Bangalore for their hospitality and to Royal Enfield for a test ride experience that’s as smooth as their motorcycles.
Key Features Covered:
Bear 650: Excellent for both city streets and trails with dual-purpose tires, taller seat height, and modern features like a TFT display and Bluetooth connectivity.
Interceptor 650: A smooth and versatile road bike with a classic design and punchy parallel-twin engine.
Himalayan 450: Perfect for Bangalore’s unpredictable roads and trails, thanks to its lightweight frame and long-travel suspension.

Hello Alroy. Great channel! Pure Gold for the Interceptor crowd. I have a Fuelx Pro+ installed on my interceptor (with stock filter for now) and Powerage long type exhaust - however, very hard to tell a difference between running rich and lean. What should I look for in terms of difference between lets say running at setting 2 and setting 7. I have tried testing on inclines and stuff but no notable difference so far. Probably check the installation once, but happy to learn from your experience.
@@shantanurastogi Hey Shantanu thank you so much for your kind words. I run an NGage air filter with a stage 2 plate so my experiences might not be the same as yours. However, I would suggest you also experience the difference a derestricted air filter along with a relative derestricted exhaust (after market headers would derestrict the exhaust completely) + the bump up of fueling that the FuelX pro gives you. In terms of the difference between level 2 and level 7, this became most obvious to me when riding with a pillion (increased load) at higher fuel x setting (level 8 for me) I felt a marked different in low end torque and effort from the engine in the pulling from stand still and especially uphill under the increased load. Ofcourse this is based on a seat of the pants feel and intuition, I don’t have actual numbers to back this up.
I was about to trade in my interceptor for a speed 400 just because of the garbage suspension and I've been having back issue like you :D. But if i did that, it would be with a heavy heart because i love my interceptor. Your video has convinced me to try the front amd back suspension. You have a new sub. Thank you
@@jaydgun thank you so much! Glad to know that my video has let you to reconsider letting go of the INT650 - which is a great machine with some obvious flaws. Hope the suspension works for you. Please update this comment with your experience once you install the way2speed suspension.
Hey brother, i am looking to buy the xpulse 200, watched your moto vlogs and really liked the city rides, im also from Bangalore, so looking for a great city ride which xpulse does well, not really into offroading, may go to my hometown once a month or so which is like a 200km ride, am confused on Xpulse 200 4v or the rally edition, which one should i go for, my height is 5ft 10, your answer would be greatly appreciated 👍
I would suggest the Xpulse Pro Rally Edition. Second-hand ones are going for good deals right now in anticipation of Xpulse 2110.
@@alroymenezes will my height be a problem in the rally edition? 210 will be a bit heavier so that is my only gripe with the 210
Only way to know would be to get a test ride.

On this test ride it was at its softest setting.
@@alroymenezesgetting the 450 would be an ideal single bike garage then!

Just bought this in the 249 color. What a beast to ride, and what a beauty to look at, in that color. A bit stiff at the back, but overall a hoot. Coming from an Xpulse Pro, really loved the added highway ease, whilst not totally foregoing the ability to tackle bad roads. For someone that’s 6’2, this is probably the first 650 that is comfortable enough for daily use😂
@@sauravshete6088 Congratulations, the 249 is a real stunner! Ride safe and enjoy! Personally I found the rear too stiff since I have a back injury but if it works for you, that’s most important. The Xpulse Pro suspension can be adjusted and is much more forgiving than the Bear650, would you agree?
@ absolutely the xpulse just floats over everything you throw at it. Many times you don’t even register how bad the surface is that you’re riding on. But I guess it’s cool to have a hot rod and an off roader as well in your garage :P sadly if we try and go combine the two we have to buy grandpa ADVs😂 Love advs too but the I’m too much in love with the Bear’s aesthetic and vibes, so much so that I’m willing to live with all the shortcomings :) for me it’s that bike that you absolutely turn back and look at after you’ve parked it, as you walk away from it :):):):) Ok my xpulse looks badass too hehe but you get the point :)
Congrats, I got mine two weeks back. I heard that the Hero Maverick 440 rear suspension is good. Is that possible to fix the same with Bear 650? Either we have to change it or have to wait to get it softer after 5000 km as RE is claims the same.
@@balasubramanian6602 i would try to combat the issue by playing a bit with the rear preload. Recent 650s have been coming out with the preload jacked up for rider + pillion weight. My Bear deals with bumps decently when I’m riding 2 up surprisingly. I think I’ll address the stiffness issue by adding a softer seat cover on top of the stock seat, like a gel or air seat type thing. I don’t mind standing up for a moment to handle bumps, and the seat cover should make it a bit more bearable. That being said I absolutely love the Bear. Ready to live with the shortcomings, because good god it’s a fantastic feeling bike.
@@sauravshete6088 good. Let me try. Keep me posted if you find any good suspension in the market.
We can just add continental GT footpegs and flat handle bar and 17 inch rims. Boom we got a speed twin 650
this is a full documentary on rd 350
So whats the mileage you get now?
I have not checked of late but it should be somewhere between 25 - 30 kmpl or around 300+ kms of highway on a tank full depending on how throttle happy you are. i don't usually wait till it hits reserve and prefer always staying above it. From what I have read, running low on gas causes issues with the fuel pump.
My dad in 2001 bought one from a police auction in Mangalore way back in 2001 he told me there were two such bikes in the back of the police station (bit of history-Karnataka police and many police depts I guess way before had these bikes but they later switched to 4 stroke bikes) so he and his friend bought one each got it restored for ₹18k because he didn’t have a two wheeler for everyday riding and it was cheaper actually to restore and ride because the auction price was like ₹3k it seems 😂 scrap value it was de registered and again registered in 2001 I don’t remember the bike ( I was 2 years of age )but my mom took photos of me sitting on the bike and riding with my father. He sold it when he got transferred to Bangalore to a young person for 30k it seems .I got to know about the RD’s and all after I reached like 10th std now I have such remorse for my dad selling that bike 😢One day I’ll buy one 1️⃣
That's a great story! Have you managed to trace down the RDs once owned by your dad?
@ No 😞 I know the vehicle number and did look it up in Vahaan portal it’s showing the bike is still active and registered with insurance and all but name isn’t shown fully due to privacy concerns.
@@bsshreyas3170 post the number here, you might find it!
@ Magnetic tank bag mounting on interceptor is said to have malfunction the fuel pump! Is this true or a myth?
@@pranav.r.k4858 myth
Im hoping for the Xpulse 250
KLX230 Sherpa was launched/debut today in Japan, it is lower seat variant of KLX230 and weighs just 135kg (dry or kerb not sure), why cant Indian manufactures make something like this, maybe its just me but really prefer lighter bikes.
@AnotherComment-rl6fv any idea on the price of the Kawasaki KLX230? I hear it is around 5L? The Sherpa has lower ground clearance and suspension travel than the standard KLX230. No doubt they are more advanced and lighter than the Xpulse that weighs in at 160 kgs, but the Xpulse has a 13 litre tank capacity vs 6 litres on the KLX. Where the Xpulse wins is in price, dealership network and low maintenance cost. The price advantage of the Xpulse is unbeatable.

All over seeing indian reviews being done with speedometer not functional. Later on dealerships would sell it with under 10km on odo citing it as new one. No ethics, neither by dealer nor by reviewer.
@@falcon-91 I spoke about the speedo not working and fact that these test ride bikes will also probably be sold with a minimal odo reading. Please watch the beginning of the test ride, i have clearly mentioned it. It is not my fault as a reviewer if the showroom gives me a bike to test ride with the speedo disconnected. While you blaming the dealership is absolutely justified I dont know why you are blaming me here, infact i gave called this out and am showing it to you so you are aware of what is happening. Be sensible in your comments, dont simply throw accusations around just because you can.
I don't think it's a mimic of interceptors. It's just like the original BSAs.
@@ArunKumar-ts7xo Hi Arun the BSA does not mimic the interceptor - i am talking about the neo retro category of motorcycles with the Triumph Bonneville setting up or leading this class, the Interceptor following it and the BSA also trying to emulate the same success.
