Excellent! Are you able to take out the semicircular rack it connects to also? ( It should be attached by two bolts) If so, id be happy to buy them as a bundle. Life saver!

Sounds like a fun project you have. This one was diesel auto from the factory, coach built body for the local Mothers Pride bakery, sliding door on the driver’s side.

Yes I remember your name, I was Tranorak on the forum, probably still am if I ever log in. This old bread van did get vandalised by irate Neighbourhood Watch types and to be fair it is atrociously ugly but clubbing the F out of all the lights and windows is a bit rich. The windscreen didn’t bust though, they left the brick on the bonnet after they gave up. It’s been off the road since 2007. I’ve got an early cab back and roof to make it a pickup and keep the body as a shed but someone on the forum said it MUST be preserved as a bread van with original Perkins engine not anything modernised so it’s in limbo now. I’d quite like the space in my shed for something more worthy to come indoors actually 😂

@@tractorhead971 thing is its your van, you do as you think is fit to do with it, all very well someone saying what you should do with it, uts not there van, i had similar comments with mine your ruin it don't do this etc, then you look at what they've done with there's a bogged up mess, there skill level is obviously low, so when they look at yours they think it can't be done because they don't have the capability to do it them self, so they think you can't either, i had loads of comments on my van what I should do should be kept original bla bla, so is your van single wheel or twin? Did u say it was march 67? Before

I think this one sold for £500 offered on an original asking price of £750. Seemed cheap to me but hey ho, it had to go.

Hi Jonnie, I’ve still got the Austin Six and the Somerset among others. I’m tempted to try to fire up the Six someday. It looks like it might go after a 50 year rest period. It’s a big inline six cylinder of unknown cc and hopelessly underpowered I’m sure but it’d be fun to get it running eh.

The Austin 6 my pals Father had,would make a yearly pilgrimage to Jaywick, in Essex for the kids summer holidays. This motor would tow a small trailer, and his 5 sons would be packed in with their mother, plus buckets and spades clothing and the kitchen sink. My mates dad would rev the engine of the car, hold the revs and then take off just like a jet aircraft.(but slowly creeping away from the curb.) The funny thing now I remember it. This poor bloody car never let him down. It would get there eventually. So whenever I think of old Austin sixes I think of Jaywick by the sea. Cheers.👍

Yes it was sat in a lockup since 1976, revived maybe 4 years ago, driving around again but unreliable. Engine would ‘bog out’ despite thorough cleaning of petrol tank etc. Someone fitted electronic ignition but it’s impossible to set the timing now. Latest attempts had it no better than in this clip, running then conking out. Carb is suspected as well as timing. Even the owners club can’t say if the jets are correct. There’s a threaded hole as if for a jet, one illustration seems to have a jet there, another seems to show it empty. Baffling and beyond my skill set. I think most surviving Austins run fine because they always did but if they are faulty like this one it’s impossible to sort out. So I’ve moved on to other projects. Eventually the brambles will grow over the Somerset and it’ll be forgotten.

@@tractorhead971 There is a very good chance that the piston rings will have gummed up. The loss of compression on one or more cylinders might well exhibit the symptons you have.

Hey ho, no plans for selling, I bought it for it’s excellent mechanicals to put onto another vehicle but weirdly despite the outer panels being shite, the underneath and wheelarches are smothered in preserver so still solid so I’m hesitating now. What were you thinking?

How's your project going? I'm sort of looking for the mechanicals , wondering if I could make my MK3 camper all wheel drive with it?

Not parasites. Most you see in the video were eaten a few days later by Magpies, probably delicious (to a Magpie). Left to mature they would eventually have become a chubby looking pseudo-wasp hover fly.

I thought the tea tasted a bit funny... It’s an ideal engine for a canal boat, puttering along, quite quiet for a diesel, nice small size etc but a bit gutless for a working tractor I’d say but ok for just taking to shows, retro looking.

@@tractorhead971 The WC was only rated at 25 hp so wouldn't take much to replace it, I think the 4.108 was rated at 50hp but probably at fairly high revs. That's what I like about that engine - it looks old because it is fairly plain and has very little on the R/H side where my steering column would be in the way. What were you going to do with your engine or are you restoring the Transit?

Ah so a 4108 sounds ideal for you. Nice project. Yes I’m restoring the transit. I was planning to fit a ‘banana’ but if the Perkins is ok I think it can stay original.

Ah yes, that’ll be the famous Transit diesel of the 90s with air intakes looking like a bunch of bananas hence nickname 😆
