Interesting - I’d probably have grabbed the Dove, played it in grassland, and chose the card draw and grabbed the blackbird.

Did you undervalue turkey vulture rd 1? 4 pts (eor included) for zero food and also the ability to essentially neutralize a bird your opponent already played? One food is generally better than the typically one point a predator power gets for your opponent

The Phoebe and Hummingbird are terrible bird, I always lose when I play them. Or sometimes I played for the cheap starting bird, I'll never use their ability. I can only win when I don't use their ability.

That may have been the best starting hand I've ever seen, very well played. I'm curious about playing the Wagtail in the wetlands and then the Tuckers in the grasslands, I think I put Wagtail in the grasslands and then barn Swallow in the wetlands. What made you go down this route?

I’ve actually really started to like the moving birds in Oceania. Getting one out at the start of the game is really nice because it essentially fills all three first slots at once

I've started to really like the Many-Colored Fruit Dove recently, You don't have to sweat giving oppo's berries too much, and it's just incredible having all the extra food for tray resets and extra eggs. Craziest game I've had recently involded a Fruit Dove, Catbird, Chiff Chaff forest with a singular Kelp Gull in the Wetlands...didn't end up being the highest scoring game, but definitely one of the most fun!

It's funny how Oceania makes some of these 3 food Migratory Birds an occasional play instead of instant food or tuck and draw fodder

Good match! Definitely did not expect the Chat to be so good at the end. I also had a fun Wingspan mini game idea I wanted to share! You and a friend reading out bird trivia or playing bird calls while the other tries to guess which bird it is. I tried it with my partner but we were pretty bad 😂

You said you didn't know why, but surely you played the Hornbill first because you always play Bonelli last for maximum pain for your opponent XD.

good old Blyth's Hornbill. I have sometimes been lured into planning around it single-mindedly when I draw it early, & I end up skipping better engines/plays. I just love the strategy of it too much ::)

It looks like you ignore the EOR goals in weighing your starting hands. Is that a typical strategy?

Has Oceania made Wingspan worse? People complained a lot about base game wingspan devolving into egg spam in round 4. The grasslands produced a ton of eggs (points) late game, and EORs were focused on eggs. Now the nectar battles can be a lot of points and EORs are more focused on birds played. These factors push people towards the forests. So many Oceania games start by playing a single bird in the wetland and digging for round 1. Mid game is focused on building out the forest, and late game is playing big birds. It doesn't strike me as any better than how things used to be, and maybe a little worse.
