Replacing A Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz Harmonic Balancer
How I removed the harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley/damper on my 1992 Mercury topaz GS although this process should work the exact same on similar generation and trim package Topaz and Tempo.
TO ADD:
-before preforming this project be sure the harmonic balancer is the problem, check all pullies and replace if necessary.
-Before removing pullies check for play as they will need to be removed anyways, replace if necessary.
- always use safety/jack stands to support vehicle and engine/ transmission when lowering.
- this video is for informative purposes only.

Help my 1995 f150 xlt 4x4 4.9/300 straight 6 5spd 340,000 miles. Doesn't smoke had plenty of power and ran smooth. Then a couple days ago it was running normal. Added some ga started up ran fine. Drove it 8-9 miles when doing about 60 it died. Without missing, sputtering no notice of an issue. Tried restarting it while it was coasting off the road. No luck after i got pulled off the main highway i trued again. It would crank but not start. Respliced hot wire on starter. It was spliced when I bought the truck in 09. Started troubleshooting on the side of the road. Found the pink vacuum line traced it back to where it comes out of. Couldn't and still can't find where it goes after it goes under intake manifold. Not sure what its purpose is? And haven't found any videos or diagrams matching my smog system or vaccum line setup. Checked my brothers 99 same engine etc. But his smog set up has parts mine don't but our vaccum lines look the same. Same air pump etc. Towed it home Started troubleshooting it more. Plugs cap and rotor were pretty bad. Plugs had rusted look to them. Replaced plugs cap and rotor. Cleaned air filter it was full of blow sand. Put a full charge on battery. It cranked long then fired off after a couple tries. Ran rough tried to die i kept it running for 3-4 minutes by stepping on the gas it reved up then started to cut out tried pumping it. It died anyway then cranked but wouldn't fire off. I tried a few more times. Then the battery back on the charger waited till it had a full charge again. Maybe a half hour. Put it back in turned the key could hear the fuel pump let it stop and tried again got a couple sputtering attempts to fire off to run but thats it. I gave up for today. There is a bad elbow on redvvacuum line coming off the splitter and going to the tree. But other than that im baffled. I dont have a code scanner, book or diagrams for my truck. The vaccum diagram under hood is wrong. Truck is 2/1995 so either they changed something, its Canadian built or something cause it doesn't have that California smog piece. I don't have any money to pay a shop right now. Do the parts switch out thing until I get it right. And my trucks my only vehicle, I live 35 miles from town and im seriously screwed at this point. So if anyone has any good knowledgeable ideas or testing and diagnosis tricks the old school way id be seriously grateful.

Maybe check your PCV valve, the small valve that is sticking into your valve cover coming from the back of the intake manifold with a heat guarded hose around it. they should just pop out no tools needed and see if it rattles when you shake it back n forth. If it does not you need a new one. Super cheap part and it was making my 2000 F150 sputter and die, i fixed it and truck ran great and idle went way down so nice and smooth i thought she was stalled lol. Also the DPFE sensor and EGR valve can be issues.

I wished I had seen this video sooner. I tried to fix the broken loop by crimping on another wire loop but it was a little too long to get the proper adjustment position for the indicator. Now I have to go back in and try this method with the crimp-on wiring eyelet. Save ~$50. for a new part and more disassembly to install it. Great tip!
