How to Dehydrate Your Sourdough Starter
มุมมอง 1352 หลายเดือนก่อน
I highly recommend dehydrating some of your sourdough starter. Here’s why: 1- it’s good to have a back up in case anything happens to your wet sourdough starter. 2- easier to ship & give to family and friends. 3- easier to travel with. 4- it lasts inevitably! Make a Loaf of Sourdough Bread
มุมมอง 1.6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is my go-to sourdough bread recipe. 100g active starter 350g room temperature water (filtered) 500g bread flour 9-10g salt Remember everything with sourdough is temperature dependent! So if your house is warm, your starter and your dough will ferment faster. Let me know if you try this recipe!

What do you do with the leftover that you have pulled from?
@@ggw4619 I put it in the fridge then feed it when I want to make bread again
That's a lot of extra starter. What are you doing with it?
@@phyzix_phyzix I bake a lot so I just used it next time
@@livingwellwithmandy Are you refeeding it so it doesn't become too acidic? What's your feeding schedule/ratio?

Hi Mandy! So great coming across your channel today, I will be following along. I have a healthy sourdough starter at the moment but I’m wondering if you have any insight or tips on how to increase the size of the starter like you have here leading up to a bigger bake. Thanks!

Hi! I have a free sourdough starter guide on my IG page - are you on IG
Love it. Pat those things!
Just came across your channel. I'm learning how to bake sourdough bread your dough is just gorgeous. I'm going to subscribe to your channel so I can learn how to make beautiful dough like that ❤
Thank you and welcome!
I'm sorry, but this may be a dumb question. When you take your starter out of the refrigerator to feed it once a week. What is that process? You take it out of the refrigerator, feed it, and then put it back in? Do you discard any of it?
not a dumb question at all! Personally I don't discard unless I don't feed my starter regularly, so I pull it out of the fridge (taking only the amount I plan to feed), feed it and then let it rise to peak then bake with it. The remaining goes back in fridge.
My dehydrated starter has saved my butt many times!!!

Mandy, you're blessed with cake!
You let your sourdough identify as a woman. That's fantastic. You seem highly dateable.

Just a suggestion, don't skip the squishing step, if you don't like dough on your hands, use gloves like I do. I'm always afraid I'm going to get a lot of dough down my kitchen sink and clog up my kitchen sink so I use gloves.
