Learn European Portuguese with lessons for beginners and improve your comprehension with listening practice videos.
Is learning Portuguese something that would tickle your sardine (as no one says in Portugal... at least until now)? Good thing this isn't a baking channel, then. Come along. We'll eventually arrive somewhere.

Stupid Clichés About the Portuguese
Let's debunk some ridiculous stereotypes about Portuguese people! From the myth of afternoon siestas (we're not Spain!) to the "hot-blooded Southern European" cliché, we're tackling all those oversimplified generalizations that somehow keep spreading around the world.
In this video, we'll explore and fact-check:
The famous Portuguese "saudade" - is it really unique to us?
The myth of Portuguese always being late
Our supposed melancholic nature
The "relaxed lifestyle" stereotype (try finding affordable housing in Lisbon!)
Religious stereotypes in modern Portugal
The truth about Portuguese emotional expression
Whether you're Portuguese, planning to visit Portugal, or just curious about our culture, this video separates fact from fiction. No more lazy stereotypes - let's get real about what it actually means to be Portuguese in today's world!

Political Chaos in Portugal: What Happened?
Fernando Pessoa, naturalmente!).
Isso fez-me rir!

Viva Portugal ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
I didn't know about the Portugal National Anthem until I stumbled upon this video, so I did a little bit of research about it. The wiki said this song was actually a patriotic response to the British demand that Portugal should refrain from colonizing more lands in Africa. I was surprised that the new republic chose to keep a song that called for more colonization as a national anthem, given that the carnation revolution was about ending the disastrous colony wars. Seems a bit ironic to me.
Thank you for watching the video. The republic put in place by the 1910 revolution cared as much about the colonies as the monarchy before it and the Estado Novo regime (from 1933 to the Carnation Revolution in 1974). Keeping the Portuguese colonies in Africa was so important to the republic that it led Portugal to another disastrous participation in a war (World War One). Even in 1974, independence of the African territories was, to many, more a means to end the colonial war than a manifestation of opposition against colonialism or a recognition of a just desire for independence.
@@SimpletonPortuguese is the countries relationship to colonisation discussed openly much now, ,post '74, with a younger, more global, population. Are there uncomfortable discussions at the Xmas dinner table about Portuguese colonial history with the elderly racist uncle ? In the UK a lot of apologists say that British colonisation was not all bad, we gave them trains, "democracy" and cricket! However there is also a strong counter-argument which the younger generation articulate.
@@thesmithsmaf Yes. We also have those discussions. Sometimes it's not even with elderly racist uncles, but with young and moderately open minded people who had a distorted point of view hammered into their heads. And it's funny because part of that way of seeing things includes the argument: The Portuguese were "mild" colonizers compared to the "cruel" British and French. Which is, of course, not true. They were all equally horrible.
Thank you very much. Your rate of speech was slow enough for me to understand a lot of what you said.
