Professional Instructors and Aerobatic competitors offer pilot training and a hefty dose of critical thinking about the “how” and “why” of flight.
One Flight to Win it All! The Keene Fall Classic 2024
A formation flight, hanging out with buds, and a competition aerobatic flight all in one morning?!? Must be the end of the aerobatic season because it's time for the one day one flight contest that is the Keene Fall Classic!

The next step would be a Turbe Decatlon with a Turbinair T150 turboprop.
Ooooo. If you find one I’ll fly it.
Champ with a "Piper" cowl. Sure don't resemble a Champ cowling!
The larger cowl was necessary when the O-235 was hung on the front.
It might be due to that T tail I think diamond is the only one has T tail besides jets if I’m not mistaken? Question does the DA 40 have the same problem?
The 40 isn’t nearly as heavy.
Looks like a citabria horizontals, elevators, and wings. Rudder appears to be a champ interesting combo!
Yeah that’s accurate. At the time I had some info wrong.
Such a different video from others I've watched . One demonstrates hands off commercial turn that you seemed to have so much difficulty with . Wonder what the difference was?
The others used ALL of the trim. Control forces are very high on the elevator.
@SpreadAviation ahh ic so the truth is that it's not as easy as they make it seem. And not as hard as you make it out to be.
As someone who’s done test flying for certification, the control forces were high. But this is not an airplane whose mission is maneuvering flight. It’s meant to cross country. This is also a very early serial number so potentially there’s been some development on the elevator but I haven’t done any research since then. Call Diamond and ask for a demo flight.
Great - we have an ADF wire on our Cherokee too!
That flying was tightttt
Thank you.
Awesome video and thanks for the reminder!!! 🙂
Rob, thanks for the video of the Keene Contest! A beautiful day with foliage at peak to fly with good friends and wrap up our New England Chapter 35 Season!
We purchased are Harley Street Glide new in 2006. From day one it has always been Mobil 1 full synthetic oil. Mobil 1 is in our car, mower, side by side, & truck. I believe and trust Mobil.
I didn’t know bots could ride.
Are Hog must be nice.
So fun!!!, You made those maneuvers look easy.
Thank you 🤗
Beautiful plane! Great looking day for an aerobatic orientation. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the great info. If I can ask, ever fly a Cap 232? Looks like a nice aerobatic plane. Can it be compared to the Ford-Chevy thing?
I haven’t flown the Cap but my old boss did. He says it still does the best snap rolls. Elements of its performance were used as the baseline when developing the Extra 330SC. The cap is now a dated design, but so is this midwing 300. Still capable of Unlimited level aerobatics, but is slightly outclassed by modern machines. Still a good value for the money.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank YOU!
Great explanation.
Rob, tell us more about the nut between the seat and the stick.

Thank you
Yo sick plane
Thank you!
that's an e-190, not a 737 kiddo
It took 3 years for someone to finally notice. Well done!
it looks beautiful but the visibility is horrible, the "canopy bow" is just so thick, but the windows on the sides are huge
cute lil helmet and sunglasses
Gracias
Why dont they use aircraft Numbers, sounds like chaos
There’s so many aircraft in such a tight spacing that doing the two way communication would clutter the frequency even more.
Love the Spook decal on the helmet, 6534 Marine Corps Aviation Ordnance F4J/S 83 to 86

Got tired of waiting...

did you purposely reverse the title of the TH-cam video from what's on the screen? Great presentation Rob. You have a future in public speaking… :-)
That’s the file name, and even though I changed the title in the YT editor, it’s still there.
Oh… I see it now.
She said "rock your wing" and he gave her knife edge, it was like a woman asked for a bracelet and he gave her the entire jewelry store 😂. A nice work was done here
Gotta admit she was impressed. Lol
Critical thinking is asking Why? five times in a row. Just like a four year old. And you can just as easily discuss trading airspeed and altitude without going into the abstraction of energy. Engineers can groove on abstractions, not necessarily student pilots. Interconnected aileron and rudder were on the Navions, right after WWII, I believe. Head up display, not heads up display. And you used energy state when you meant airspeed only. Wing needs airspeed to generate lift, not energy. Frise ailerons seem to date from 1934. You've used energy at least three times when you meant airspeed. You tongue tied yourself trying to use energy. I quit at 35 minutes...
Fantastic presentation! I might have turned the title around. It seems bad things happen mostly when a pilot's enthusiasm exceeds their available energy (magical thinking) 🤣
Thanks for the feedback. If you stopped at 35, you missed some of the best parts.
Love the paint job. Looks like my trike aircraft.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
‘Merica
Waited all year just for that wing rock! Awesome lol.. Id do the same if I had a capable plane. Well, I take that back.. I'd do it a little differently. Smoke on, Full roll, inverted wing rock, and back to level . They'd love it, but I'd be in trouble. 😂
If you already have the NASA form filled out…
"Worst landing ever".....LMAO! Hey dude, you walked away from it so it's all good! :)
And I got to re-use the airplane
That ATC is incredible! I'm pretty damn good at following a fast CO. But, she was rambling so damn fast, I couldn't keep up.
Good news. You don’t really have to work your ears up until you’re close to FISKE and then you switch to tower. Unfortunately the GoPro that was doing audio lost power when I got to the airport so I don’t have that tower.
Somebody badly wanted an RV to back off lol Seems like he might’ve been trying to overtake someone who wasn’t having it
The atc is a nightmare!
That’s why they rotate controllers every couple of minutes.
Would you reccommend this for a first plane to build hours?
It will certainly build skill which is more important than hours.
Awesome 😁👍
Thanks!
They don't pay those controllers enough!!!
But… they volunteered.
That lady sound like she wanna spank somebody bad! And the dude ain’t no better… talk about headaches I don’t need! I swear ET go home now ixnay on the shkoshoay!
Nice rock!
What a fantastic . . .FANTASTIC paint job
Thank you!
3:30 not the cirrus getting scolded again 😂
The amount of radio calls missed due to Bluetooth music playing needs to be studied.
Hey amigo, thanks for the video. First time arrival with Tbone. Your video answered all my question!
Good luck!
Very very sneaky. Did you ever get to fly with the Blue Angels or Thunderbird's?
Another great video, thanks for sharing. Liked the the use of the Benny Hill theme song. Ready for Oshkosh 2024?
great video as usual Rob ! for some reason I haven't been getting any get notifications when you post videos for quite some time . awesome flying. !🛩
It may be my lack of posting and not the notification system. 😄
i miss my dad
This pilot never looked before making the right turn , BAD.
I’ll have a word or two with them
You referenced transition from a Decathlon - I'm doing basic acro training in one now. You mentioned stall behavior, but aside from the spin entries, didn't demo. Comparison? The landing approach looked Pitts'ish. Curious how difficult landing it is. No time in a Pitts, but have watched videos on landings and the rep is quite challenging to land. Is the Eagle the same, easier? Landing a Decathlon I didn't find too challenging.
If you have the opportunity, try flying the Decathlon from the backseat. That's the same basic sight-picture of the biplanes. Handling characteristics were benign in the slow speed. No real bad habits and it communicates edge of the envelope feel nicely. I typically fly a continuously curving approach in all the aerobatic ships as it affords runway visibility until as low as possible.
