I just did a half snap after a hammer in an unknown on the weekend. One suggestion is to chop the power after the pivot to bring the speed back and draw a nice line. Hit the 1/2 snap at 90-100kts and you shouldn't be that fast coming out so then you can do the roller. Also, its easy to over cook a half snap if you hit them too fast.

No doubt! This is the technique that works well, you’re spot on.

Those rollers would make me sick I think. Well who am I kidding I get nervous getting close to 30 degrees pitch.

Fear becomes Respect through Knowledge. Knowledge comes from good Instruction. Rollers aren’t that bad in my opinion.

Rollers are funny. I used to finish a roller at about 140. Entered faster than that the the plane would slow down during the figure. If Slow the plane would accelerate to about that speed. what do you think your optimum entry speed is?

She settles at 120, I’m trying to be kind to the 28 year old airframe and fabric though so I was a bit fast.

@@SpreadAviation Then 165 is pretty quick to enter. Do you reduce power entering or during a roller? 120 seems a little slow, though airframe kindness is a good thing! A sinister sequence designer will do something like Wes did, give you a down line into the roller followed by a roll on an up line with a fly away at the top.

If I’m fast I’ll pull power prior to entry, but during the maneuver the throttle is wide open.

Whats the hours that you need to check the frames and things on a acro aircraft.. and engine.. throttle seems to be at wot all the time while doing maneuvers

It requires an annual inspection unless it’s used for commercial operation. Then it would need an inspection every 100 hours of tach time. Most operators do an oil change every 50 hours. I do a nut and bolt check every 10 hours or 5 Acro flights. And yes during aerobatic flight the throttle is basically binary. On or off.
