Why empty pools float in Florida!!
Exactly! Tell folks all the time… better do your research when hiring someone!
I watched 3 mins and was done with the roller coaster ride of the camera work.
Yaaaaaaa it’s BAD
The most important measure of sanitizer is ORP and you cannot maintain ORP of 650 mV if you have very much CYA in the water. ORP of below 650 mV is a closure item in the MAHC and many state codes. I've seen pools with 10 ppm FC and 80 ppm CYA and 550 mV ORP. 8 ppm FC at 100 ppm CYA isn't going to do it. You must have ORP of at least 650 mV to avoid algae and pathogen survival.
I find the health code treatment for fecal contaminants in public pools with cya to be almost laughable. I truly can’t wrap my head around why or how they expect this parameter to be feasible.
@Rigby's Pool Service: Great install . I used it to install my BD pool pump. Could you provide a link or a model number for the electric twist lock you used to provide the power to the pump? I like to bring in my pump during winter and having that twist lock is very convenient. Thanks.
Depends on your setup and plug type but something like this may work- pstpoolsupplies.com/pump-cord-stenner-classic-pumps-230v-6ft-nema/
Is the back edge of the trim ring clamped into that compression clamp? I am having a hard time fitting it in with the gasket and niche. Thanks
Yes it is, assuming it’s the exact gasket, it should fit in there like a glove. If it fits like OJ’s glove, it’s likely going to leak
What is the bulb number and gasket? Amazon? Or local pool store? Thanks Keith.
@@KeithWelsh-r3r it should say right on the side of your particular light, I can’t recall off the top of my head what this one was
So I can add this UV system to a saltwater system?
awesome ! now if only someone would make something to hoist that silly thing out of the water-or better yet, a ramp to remove it -cause I can't imagine the Dolphin's lifespan will be very long if left in a pool all summer 😛
🎉😢
My Ultra UV cost $2200 from the pool builder and that was 3 years ago. Just the parts alone for a UV 2-bulb replacement will cost you $250. Also some units are unreliable, with tank leaks when just out of 2 year warranty. That's a $500 part, plus labor to change all the parts over. Forget UV. Expensive and unreliable. My pool maintainer recommends "Pool Rx." $50 once a year or so and you can maintain a FC level of .5 to 1, if you are chlorine sensitive .
I keep going back and forth between Sutro and Water Guru Sense 2. Do you still recommend Sutro? I'd prefer something like this over placing something in my skimmer despite the product cost.
I’d say- it’s still my favorite tester in the market. I agree with you about the guru in the skimmer- makes zero sense in my mind.
@@rigbyspoolservices Perfect, I will order it. My pool is done on Tuesday so I'm excited to try it out. Thank you for responding.

Enzymes remove phosphates as well ?
They do not- sorry, slip of the tongue. They break down non living organics that can sorta go hand and hand with a phosphate level.
I didn’t make it really clear but mean more so those enzyme products like Pool Perfect Total that are a combo punch.
A good review. I don't believe a sand filter can filter down as well as a cartridge or DE no mater what you put in. Additionally, sand filters flow less than any other type, having far less filter surface area. Multiport valve problems are common too. I for the life of me, cannot understand why sand filters are so popular. Losing all that water and having to retreat with chemicals makes no sense. Add to that, you must flock(which includes even more wasted water through vac to waste)and/or add clarifiers when cleaning up a green or soiled pool, causing even more money spent on these. Let's save the planet by getting rid of useless sand filters. You mention how much of a hassle it is to dismantle and clean DE filters; that's nothing compared with the absolute shit of a job it is to replace sand, or decommission a sand filter. You get it by now, I hate the bloody things!
Check out Dryden’s AFM NG… talk about crazy filtration abilities!
Stop butting up valves and pump fittings. Leave room for replacements. Save money and time
Absolutely, I don’t disagree with that statement. In this instance- 5x pipe diameter prior to pump is met. The point of the video is to show a simple drop in replacement- not so much redoing the pipe runs. But overall, I concur! Cheers
Replacement bulbs are an EXPENSIVE deal. For someone who runs a pool service and likes UV system so much you don't know much about the cost of maintaining them. You cost numbers are way low.
I don’t think I gave a specific price did I? It’s been about 2 years since I posted this but they still aren’t super pricey for the bulbs in comparison to what they save you in chlorine- sorta pay for themselves.
Horrible reviews on Amazon. Not sure who to believe
I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have- I’m not paid or sponsored by them in any way. I’ve used the product as a professional and in my personal hottub. Can’t pretend it hasn’t been without issue but I’m always able to work them out. 9/10 times it’s my fault- user error.
He spent too much time on a sand filter even though a sand filter is least used
Depends where you live- I’d argue sand filters are the most popular across the United States.
Dood, comb your hair.
See the wheelchair???? Not leaving the house- not combing shit 😂

I know…. It’s not great camera work at all, but if I can be of any help with your install let me know. Rigbyspoolservices@gmail.com
I have had this pump on my pool for two years now and it has operated absolutely flawlessly! If I remember correctrly I paid $700 for it on Amazon, 5 stars!
With this work for sand filter
Yes! Pairs wonderfully with sand filters
Thanks! What would be the best filter for a soapy water from the shower?
That’s a tough one, enzymes added will help break down the soaps. Cartridge and DE will catch it but likely need to be cleaned after. Glass paired with enzymes will capture it easily and then backwash out.
@@rigbyspoolservices I heard alum helps breaking down soaps. Not sure how to use it in filter though.
@@SergiiDumyk it would help the soap be filtered- you have to be careful using it, and just a tiny bit but yes it’ll work if you have a sand or glass. Don’t run it through your DE or Cartridge filter though.
Wow way to not explain anything
Now you know if we got too specific 90 percent of the internet wouldn’t have a clue what I’m saying. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
damn, that's one dirty pool!
You should have seen it 24hrs later- the pic is on my company Facebook page about a year or so ago “Rigby’s Pool Services”
That was a pool?
Great idea! I just plugged my maytronic quantum up , does your power supply get warm while on ? I also read not to use a extension cord . Thnks
No it doesn’t really get too warm and that’s correct- they do not advise using extension cords
20K gallon above ground pool I'm wanting to switch to H2O2 instead of chlorine. We have solar heat with small hose size (not commercial solar panels) so that does slow the rate of flow down to the point I can't auto vac with the solar being used. Also a heat pump when necessary but idk if that affects flow rate. Multi hp pump (need the high power for auto vac, but use low when possible). Any suggestions as UV is suggested to go along with and lower H2O2 consumption? We are not chlorine sensitive, just looking for better health options.
Thank you for this great info, this is very educational as well as all your other videos! What type of sanitation system would be your recommendation for a new fiberglass pool, we are looking for a chlorine alternative, and since SWG makes chlorine we are thinking to either go mineral with UV or UV with AOP
Useful info but next time have someone sturdier than Michael J Fox hold the camera.
I love your glasses. What brand is it?
Thank you- They are Oakley’s
😂I bought 1.5 hp variable speed B&D pump a few months ago n I stall it myself replacing my broken Pentair Whisperflo. It works great , much better than I expected with programmed speed variations over 16 hours daily schedule that I don't need to change n it is so quiet ! Only problem during installation is the thread at wiring box 1/2" NTP needed to be retaped. Temporarily, I used a 1/2 sprinkler plastic riser to fit n taped to prevent water getting in when rain.
I have a pool and a hot tub; can I use the same sutro device in both in alternating days or weeks?
I would probably advise against that as it kinda of learns the body of water and gets better and better over time. With that said- it may be feasible to some degree just not recommended (for instance some will do pool in the summer and switch to spa in the winter). Let me get more concrete info on that for you though
Does wiring direction matter? Just finished installation and the pump runs, but not getting any flow.
Unfortunately it doesn’t work with a smart timer. Smart timer is very hand when you do airbnb
You don’t really need one though right? Why not just program it on a schedule via the back of the pump?
@@rigbyspoolservices normally it runs 10 hours, when someone ask for heated pool I got let it run 24 hours a day so someone has to physical change the settings on it, the heat pump works on wifi, when I had a single speed with a smart timer I could do everything over the app
@@gugu.on.wheels but that’s sort of the point of a variable speed- you want to run it 24/7

Lol I know! I know! My camera man was all over the place. I need to reshoot one!
Used a digital camera and the teenager likely had NO CLUE how to use it 😂
Does this work better than I care system I was going to buy it but seen your I just got a new hot tub
I have not personally tested the Icare BUT it measures ORP, instead of free chlorine (like the Sutro) Personally I prefer having the free chlorine reading over the ORP
I use this one in my personal hottub and many others (and pools)- it’s awesome!
Great information. Our current situation is just the frustration with chlorine availability the past 2 summers and possibly again this summer. We use liquid, but with its shorter shelf life as well as physical bulk, we can't store all we need throughout a season, so sometimes it'll be impossible to find and then we're fighting algae bloom because we can't chlorinate our pool. Then when we can obtain more liquid we have to fight to get our numbers balanced again. It's so frustrating and the convenience of converting to salt seems worth it just because of the perpetual chlorine generation.
Salt is wonderful for this exact application- keeps constant sanitizer level
Great video except for the cameraman. I saw more of the back of his hand when installing the wiring that was unstable, Half the time out of focus and for God sake, you don't have to constantly zoom in and out. Overall grade C- on the video. Recommendation: Re do the video and re-submit.
Ah I know! It killed me to even edit it! I plan to reshoot some stuff over the winter
what about ozone nanobubbles

Where can I buy the correct electrical pigtail whip that has 1/2" "NPT" threaded fitting on the end? I need 4ft whip that will thread into my new Black & Decker 1.5 hp pool pump. Southside whip from HD doesn't work with this pump.
Is it a 90? The only one I’ve come across that doesn’t work is a 90 but I have had success cutting it and then glueing them back together. Not ideal but works in a pinch
Oh I understand your question now- I don’t buy them pre made. I make them with the seal tight and fittings.
Yeah, I tried various 1/2" fittings that come with the whip as well as two that I picked up from the pool store and none of the 1/2" NPT fittings match the threads on my B&D pump. Fortunately the material of the pump threads is stronger than the threads on the whip and I was able to re-thread it into the pump threads.
Now I'm in search of #6 gauge grounding wire but the shelves at my local Lowe's & HD are empty of it....🤔
@@in4thewin729 8 will work
Hi Jon, I spoke with tech support at Lamotte and they don't recomend doing the tests all at once because some of the tests quickly show secondary reactions. Some of the tests that they told me that is sensitive is the ph and chlorine tests.
I certainly noticed that as well through my testing process but… I do see that as sort of an issue (in my mind anyways). I’ve become moreso a fan of Sutro that uses lamotte reagents
@@rigbyspoolservices Yeah, Sutro is nice. A little expensive for me right now, hoping it comes down a little.

Does the vacuum itself fit in there when not in use? Or did you just have storage of the control unit in mind?
I’ve been able to fit some of the models inside this particular sized container. Some models would not fit in this size though.
How is the build quality compared to The big 3, pentair , Jandy, etc? And you said it can fit right where the Pentair Whisperflo is? I currently have a Whisperflo single speed pump :) thanks
It’s a direct drop in for the whisperflo, sometimes need to change the connections but this one has 2inch interior threaded or comes with union connections. The build quality feels relatively similar- the wet end does feel a bit more “plastic-y” but the back end feels the same. For the price, it’s a badass pump.
@@rigbyspoolservices i see, thanks bro. The price and performance is really attractive for sure, i've been life long Pentair user, nothing wrong with the brand, if i can save close to $500-700 on a pump that does just as good, and quality is still comparable, i think it looks promising. So you think the wet end plastic body is a bit less durable as Pentair? i wonder if they sell the wet end body, in case it cracks or breaks, and there is the 5 year warranty still right.
@@bludika I don’t know that it’s any less durable but it has that feel to it, so far I’ve had 0 issues with all those I’ve installed.
They do have the 5 year warranty and they would ship you a whole new front end if needed. I know I asked for some spare parts to keep on hand and they loaded me up. Haven’t needed them though
@@rigbyspoolservices nice thats great to hear. B&D has been around a long time as a company, so i expect good customer service if necessary, good to see they're great at sending you parts. I think once my whisperflo dies, this is a very promising choice.
Don't waste your time on this product. It's heavily marketed and is a great idea but I've had nothing but problems with the product. 1. Inaccurate reading all the time. And I've verified these readings with leslies and a digital kit 2. Any issues you have the support team is quick to respond and close it out like they fixed they issue 3. The app sucks and took me a month with several phone calls just to get the membership set up. Waste of money and time.
Did you perhaps test results against a Taylor k2006 kit? While yes, I’ve had some readings that were off- usually that was only right after cartridge swap. The issue though with checking readings against Leslie’s is that they use the exact same technology- from the same manufacturer…. BUT, they have the variable of tester error as well. Not saying it’s not accurate but you can go to 5 Leslie’s and get 5 different results. Other digital testers are subpar… you can however get very accurate results with a reagent test kit like the k2006 by Taylor
I’m sorry to hear it didn’t work well for you. I can’t pretend all 20 units of mine are flawless but I’ve yet to be able to get one dialed in over time with really really precise results. I purchased this product at the beginning of our swimming season. I thought it was ok at first. The app was buggy and slow, the test results were incomplete and didn't match what the dealership results were at all. I also, paid for the monthly plan the day I got the unit, never got the new cartridges and they kept billing me for them. I went months without a cartridge so it was pretty useless. I returned it and they are not refunding me for my purchase. I would stay far far away from this brand. I hope this helps, thanks!
Hey, great video. Just got my B&D 2 hp pump and love it! Don’t forget the plural for “RPM” is “RPM” which is Revolutions per Minute - not “RPM’s” as RPM’s would be Revolutions per Minutes which doesn’t make any sense.
This thing doesn't work and when you return it they never refund you. So they are basically a big SCAM
Dang I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with them. Have you spoken recently with customer support to see what’s going on?
Could have to do with user error, but lots of bad reviews out there on this. Also seems to require a monthly subscription.
Yea in my experience it’s almost always user error. When these things are dialed in they are awesome. I have many units and never had a single issue with any of them
Would you still recommend for a salt water hot tub? I’m draining my salt water spa for the 4th time in 4 months because I’m struggling with the chemistry. I just can’t handle these color strips. I feel like my pH is always high, alkalinity always high.. I’ve dumped almost an entire bottle of Alk/pH down in and it still looks high to me. We love our spa but this is very frustrating.
Yes for sure! Also- try turning the air off on the spa jets when you are done, that in itself will help keep your pH from spiking.
