    How long are guppies in labor for notice when i got home from work that my female black metal guppy had 4 new born in the bottom half of the breeding pen that separates the new born from the mother and she is still just chilling in one corner towards the top.

    I believe the reason the water in the hatching jar needs to be aerated is to ensure that the eggs, and the nauplii when they hatch, get enough oxygen. If the water is still, they will settle to the bottom and pile up, and at least some of them will suffocate. Salt water does not hold as much oxygen gas as fresh water, so the oxygen can get depleted easily if you don’t have constant gas exchange at the surface. You could accomplish the same thing by stirring the water with a spoon constantly, but you’d get pretty tired after 24 hours or so of stirring. (As I’m sure you know, bubbles from an air pump don’t directly add much oxygen to the water. But they keep the water circulating, so mores gas exchange happens at the surface: CO2 out, O2 in.) The agitation also keeps the eggs suspended in the water, so they don’t sink to the bottom, where, again, there’s not enough oxygen to go around. I think it’s highly likely that the agitation also somehow stimulates the eggs to hatch. From what I’ve read, they also require light to hatch. I’ve never tried to hatch brine shrimp in the dark, but it’s said to yield inferior results.

    @censusgary หลายเดือนก่อน

    As Justin implies, for hatching brine shrimp, you can use any kind of salt (as long as it’s sodium chloride). You don’t need marine salt mix or any other special salt. “Freshwater Aquarium Salt” is, by the way, common rock salt with a different label. Sometimes they put a little coloring in the salt so you’ll think it’s something special. If you buy it as rock salt, it costs about U.S. $10 for 50 pounds (though prices vary widely). Labeled “aquarium salt,” the most popular brand costs about $15 for 33 ounces. If my math is right, that means that, pound for pound, rock salt labeled “freshwater aquarium salt” is about 36 times the price of rock salt labeled “rock salt.” Brine shrimp (Artemia) live in hypersaline waters- water saltier than the ocean; in some cases, several times as salty. But the cysts (eggs) hatch better in water less salty than seawater. Presumably, this has to do with osmotic pressure affecting the rehydration of the dried cysts. Some people let the cysts soak in fresh water for a while (maybe 15 minutes) before adding the salt, to give their rehydration a boost. All of the above applies to just hatching out the brine shrimp nauplii. If you want to grow them on to adulthood, and perhaps get them to reproduce, you will need water with a higher salinity, a high pH, and perhaps a variety of trace elements. You will also need to feed them, of course.

    This is a really good video. I respect the fact you're very selective in what rams you breed. I think the species has a bit of a bad rep from one's being bred with poor genetics. I watch a lot of fish tube and I can't believe I've only just stumbled across your channel.

    The problem with keeping the aquarium at 84 to 86 degrees is that most plants don’t like temperatures above 82 max; thus, keeping Rams and Discus in a heavily planted aquarium is a very difficult balance indeed!

    I love how you are keeping them in the planted tank! I see Dean breeds them like crazy in bare tanks, but my thing has always been keeping fish in as natural environment as possible. I think with Rams the most important thing you can remember is temperature requirements and clean water.

    Hello! In your opinion, what should be the hardness of the water for growing ramirese. I measured the water in my aquarium with a TDS hardness of 290 to 330 ppm. Is this indicator good for growing Ramirez? Thank you! Is it possible to grow two types of ramires in one aquarium (Apistogramma Ramirezi „Electric Blue“ end German Blue Ram? Is there a possibility that pairs of different species will form and then their offspring will not be a pure breed?

    I had my electric blue breed with my german blue and after 2 days they hatched and then waited 8 days for them to be free swimming and some of them would jump up and fall back down but they wouldnt actually become free swimming. I put them in a larger container but didnt realize my other fish could suck them out and they all got eaten... do you know why they wait 8 full days and not be free swimming? The water temp was consistently 80deg and nitrates were good. I think this time i might feed first bites on day 3-4 of being wigglers even if not free swimming to make sure they didnt all not become free swimming due to lack of food. Any thoughts or experience with ram fry taking a long time to go from wigglers to free swimming?
