The O.G. | MUSTO’s ’68 DODGE CHARGER “MR. ANGRY"
When does a car transcend its role as a mode of transportation, and when does its collection of parts evolve into something deeply emotional? For me, that journey began over 20 years ago with an oil-slick black Dodge Charger that came to be known as MR. ANGRY.
Its owner-yours truly-was, and arguably still is, a motorhead with the charm and tenacity of a high functioning neanderthal and a lack of mechanical knowledge that acted as the perfect excuse to ditch the worry and simply drive. Because of this, the old Dodge has crossed the United States six times, ventured into different countries, competed in Brock Yates’ legendary One Lap of America, and even starred on a reality show. It’s raced on countless racetracks, cruised on unforgettable road trips, and most importantly, has been the catalyst for forging lifelong friendships.
On this episode of The House of Muscle, presented by PEAK, I’ll take you through the mechanics of the car that changed my life, and the one that launched me into one of the most rewarding careers imaginable: my 1968 Dodge Charger.

ANGRIER 2.0: MIKE MUSTO’s 1969 DODGE DAYTONA
มุมมอง 88Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Welcome to a journey that began almost 20 years ago with a tagline that read - The Ultimate Automotive Middle Finger. It began with a rendering of a sinister 1969 Dodge Daytona that would go onto become the first pro-touring Dodge Daytona ever created. The idea came from two friends who met at an automotive rally. One in a 1968 Dodge Charger and the other in a 2005 Ferrari F430. The license pla...

With Italian styling, an American heart, and German engineering, the 1971 DeTomaso Pantera may go down in history as the world’s greatest hybrid. The stunner you see here, however, is special, as it belongs to Jessica Gray, a lifelong gearhead whose passion for cars comes straight from her late father-an engineer, racer, and automotive tech. Together, they were bringing his dream car back to li...

I bought an 87 back in March through Hemmings. Great service history and well preserved with 99k miles. I love that car.
With a small bump in compression like 11.5:1 would have more than likely put you over 500 hp. 1 full point of compression= 4% gain
So glad You brought the whole cruising above 3000 rpm thing that so many people have no clue about. Both my Chevelle and my Charger are always running highway speeds at 3600-3800 rpm. Never a problem.
always love you're content its back to basics straight forward . some people who build cars over complicate them ... keep them simple and get out there and enjoy it... more vids on this car please !
The second gen charger is seriously one of the most beautiful cars ever made
A lot of fkn talking and not a lot of driving..
What GEN is the 2006 ?
Looks like a grand am… great motor, body utter fail
The coolest car ever made!
Kansas City here ❤ Go Chiefs. Those eyes are amazing !
It's crazy that a big block 440 only makes 275hp. When a 6.4 makes 480hp stock. Wild
The times they are a changin'!
My dream car and its perfect just the way it is...love it!
Thank you!
Is this the same one Mike ran in Bullrun?
I HAVE 1969 RS/Z28 CROSS RAM 53 YEARS
Wish you would do a collab with Finnegan and Freiburger from Roadkill on a Death Metal Charger vs General Mayhem vs yours at Dirtfish.. think it would be pretty good content
All about this dudes mindset in building it now thats a man with heart. His artistic abilities are insane!!! never had teh eye for it And the LT5...what a frigging engine!! If only we coulda had this back in the 80s! Rain or shine drive these things guys may come a day not too long off we might not get to Wasnt planned but 1st drive after 12 yr frame off I hopped on teh fwy and started pouring Thought about it...and laughed burned up a lot of gas that day
Maaaaan, really getting me itching to drive my '66 AMC Ambassador, absolutely GORGEOUS car. Always been a '68 guy, forget the 69's, forget the 70's, the '68 to me was PEAK for the Charger! They just got it right the first time for this generation!
Don't think... just go drive. That's what I always do!
@@drivebigmuscle8080 Hope to when the car's out of the shop, been holed up there for the past 3 months due to the rare carburetor needing to be rebuilt. Car's been sitting for 9 years before I bought it, so it needs work
You take a firm stance on a/c and using the car, I couldn't agree more. The added benefit of the a/c is you don't have to interact at every light!
Ya' know, I never thought of that, but my God what a great point!! 🤣
My mild carb'd 4.8 with factory LS6 cam would spin to 7800rpm. It wasn't a powerhouse, but sure was fun to use in my C10 with a faceplated TKO II
Sounds like a fun combination, what kind of power did you make?
Honestly I would have used a different kind of head besides the Edelbrock but that's my opinion
So happy to see this monster get it's update and be as loved as it is. Enjoy the he'll out it for us all that want to be there one day. Cheers!
It'll most definitely be enjoyed!
Still love this car. Great to see it again.
Two cars I'm taking to the grave with me my 1991 Mercedes Benz 560SEC and 1969 Mustang Mach 1 428SCJ. That SEC was my dream car in College. I just got rid of my 88 BMW 635CSI which was a maintenance 🙃 nightmare after 12 years of ownership.
That sounds like a great stable of cars!
This is such an amazing video! So happy he’s back making these incredible videos!
Glad you like them! Theres more to come!
@ if you guys ever come out to Tucson Arizona! I have many cars you guys can video with fantastic owners! Keep up the amazing content!
Well, Id be happy to take it off your hands. I hate my 4.3 V6 Silverado, Id love to put this in it
That would be a great upgrade!
Emily <3!
A 1970 SE 500? Cant be many of those out there, especially loaded. Well done.
Fell in love with the 2nd generation from Watching Hazzard County. When I turned 23 on my birthday I bought one. This was in the early 90s. I paid 2k for it. 383 4bbl AT. I took it to a resto shop that specialized in older mustangs. The owner told me more people stopped to inquire about the Charger than the Mustangs he had on his lot. He had to put a not for sale sign on it. I'm pushing 60 now and she's in my garage. It was/is my dream car. I picked up a 69 Mach 1 for almost nothing and that will be a father/son project when he gets ready. My son will get both cars. Pass it on.
That is an awesome story and sounds like you've kept that dream alive!
Musto!
Great ride! Thanks to show it to us. Have a nice holydays!
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy the holidays too!
You too! and thank you!
What was the original color?
Medium Green
@@drivebigmuscle8080 thanks for the reply. Im currently building my 68, almost done. I would also like to paint it black but I was thinking about QQ1 Blue stripes as a tribute to the original color.
My offer still stands Mike, I’ll become your adopted son, you throw the car in your will to me. All I’m saying is think about it
Noted and will do! 😁
@drivebigmuscle8080 Thanks Dad!
Boss car
The heads are a complete waste of money on that engine.
intake and carb even more of a waste
Very beautiful 68 Charger Mike
Thank you Sir!
@drivebigmuscle8080 You're welcome brother
Watching this video looking at my 66 Plymouth Fury 3 convertible. Your message is inspiring! 👍❤️
That's a great car to have! What engine does it have?
Sooooo badass! Love it👍❤️
I remember watching this car in the Bullrun episodes on TV.
Yeah man, was a bit ago!
@drivebigmuscle8080 good to hear from you, Mike. Big fan of your work.
That car is sweet! Appreciate all the great advice for those of us working on projects . ❤
Thanks for watching! The advice is always free!
Absolutely - just take your time and they'll all turn out okay!
There's a heck of a lot of wisdom in what you said about how to build a car. I've done restorations and rolling restorations - definitely prefer the latter. And they're never really going to be "done" anyhow - enjoy the journey OF the car as much as the journey's IN the car. I've loved this beast for years, thanks for sharing it again. ~ Chuck P.S. Damn straight about air conditioning!
I appreciate you sharing your experience!
Man... so right Chuck, they're never really done. I feel we get close, but there's always some little thing that needs tending to. I think we call it "character" right? 😅
@ I wish I could credit the story but to synopsize....a sculptor was working and a bystander asked, "How do you know when you are done?". The sculptor replied, "I'm never finished, they just come take it alway from me". Cars like this are like the sculpture being made. Thanks for taking the time to reply, means a lot! ~ Chuck
It takes twenty years.... finally somebody said it!
The OG killer !!! Always loved your car Love the 68 charger that’s my dream car. I love the round tail lights much better than the bars that came later. The bumble bee red stripe is perfect. When I show people my dream car, I show them your car. 😅
That is unbelievably kind - thank you! Trust me, I know how fortunate I am to have held onto the Charger for this long.
Proud of you bud. True down and dirty car guy! She is still and will always be a bad machine.
You started it buddy... You started it.
Nice. That looks great, it's how Mopar shoulda done it in the first place. It's so true about things taking time, you meet car guys who bought a vintage car for the first time, and they want to get everything done in 6mths. And you're thinking...dude, I'll bump into you in 10yrs time and most of those things will still be on your list, but that's cool 🙂
😂 TRUTH!!
A-body is almost as bad with that flex.
I'll always remember you and that red T/A blowing by me in the 4 corners area when I was on the way to Moab in my Ramcharger. Little did I know I'd see you on tv later that year in Bullrun.
That was a LOOOOONG time ago!
The classic finger for the classic kit! Excellent video Mr.Musto!
Appreciate it, glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you!
So 274hp 440lb Torque at the back wheels. Any idea what that is at the crank or flywheel?
At this point, no idea - we've never run it on an engine stand.
