I have arthritis of the wrist,my doctor want to fuse the wrist with a metal plate which would limit all motion,is there anything else that can be done?
Thank you for explaining this to us laypeople.
Thank you so much doctor! I have a volar plate avulsion fracture 2 months ago. i have a splint over the top and have hand physio however it can not strighten fully it is bent/ curved and bent fully is nto possible either. It is not stiff but just physchaclly will not move and then forced it is very painful It feels like it will snap or something. I think i need this proceedure you say but they are quite resistant to do much here in the netherlands. i see the surgon again in few weeks.
You have made this very clear. Thank you.
How about doing an update on this CMC operation? This video is 10 years old.
The clearest presentation of the process I have seen after months of research. Thank you for this simple, understandable demonstration.
Helpful information
Not from sports but i just fell in the dark 🤦🏻♂️ im crying rn yall have no idea how bad this sucks
Great info. .l
Dr I want to study 📖 with you. Dr Bahraini graduated from kiev University. 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦
I think this is is what’s wrong with my LRTI. I’m having pain and clicking and popping sounds now. I think my wrist has gotten bad.
Hi my finger X Ray is my display picture please let me know if it needs surgery
The latest journals and outcomes show PRC being superior to 4cf?
I've watched dozens of these shift tests in person and online, and this is by far the best explanation and demonstration I've ever seen.
Im seeing a hand surgeon soon but im interested in the mini tight rope procedure. And advive on this technique
The best explanation of the test I've come across.
Thank you Dr
A hand looks easy to understand but lots of detail
do you happen to have some # behind this test like the sensitivity/specificity since you mentioned normal adults will have some degree of laxity it seems.
In nine years maybe there’s another procedure
And me
Remember for those reading this in 2024, that this video was made 9 years ago, and big improvements happen in that period of time.
Thanks for pointing that out
My intention is to avoid hand surgery as if it were the plague.
How do I find a surgeon who does this type of surgery?
Thank you for this explanation! I’m an X-ray technologist so I’m very aware of the hand anatomy. I’m also suffering from bilateral thumb cmc arthritis and will be seeing an orthopaedic hand surgeon soon. It’s good to have some prior knowledge of what surgical options are available and their efficacies.
Ct tech here. Having the same problem bilaterally. Sucks
High key want this man to fix my finger
7:44a, 6/28, Thanks for this informative video. You’ve sold me on this procedure. I’m a 67 yr old pianist w cmc joint arthritis. I currently have a push brace holding my cmc joint tight against my hand, relieving much of the pain and discomfort. However, I see this brace as only buying me time before the surgery. Now… my questions: Where are you located? I live in Maple Grove MN, a suburb of Minneapolis. Do you know any hand surgeons in this area that you could recommend? Thanks again. I look forward to your reply! Rick Drake
The best explanation I ever heard. Thank you
You know, it's not that difficult to strike a balance between technical jargon and common parlance. This disability is one that requires a considerable effort, granted. But for those of us with highly arcane levels of technical acumen the challenge posed by the need to convey a competent rendition of a technically complex system of imagery can and must be dealt with, so that outsiders can participate. This lecture, as with so many others, is hideously obfuscatory and stultifying in the extreme. Horrible, it's as if the fellow does not even remember how to speak English. We all can and must learn to balance jargon with commun usage terms. It's absolutely offensive to assert that those unfamiliar with the lingo and jargon are themselves to be regarded as one's inferiors and in this manner treated as though they/we are small children. Something about our white collar sensibility compels us to treat the unwashed as thought they were children. And this is offensive in the extreme.
What about the strength of the use of the thumb. Do you loose strength in grip and other uses ?
I think I'll try going with a joint replacement.
Dr Watson would have been fun as a professor of Orthopedics.
I am 50 years old. I had my surgery on October 7th 2022. I am still out with shoulder issues and a almost completely numb upper arm, horrible shoulder pain. Do not know that issue yet. My thumb pad is in my palm. I'm so frustrated I need meds to calm my nerves, im not sleeping well. So much pain still in my thumb and swelling and stiff fingers. I'm so done with this!!! I don't know what to do because my doctor wants to put a cortisone shot in my shoulder. Don't know if I want that. 😔
I’ve been getting Cortizone shots in my shoulders and knees for years and I get them every four months. They’ve quit working so I just had my right shoulder done, I’m doing my right thumb oct 31, my left shoulder November 30 and my left thumb December 12. Supposedly. I’ve watched a lot of videos and now I’m scared to death. The injections I swear by they got me by for years I’m only doing these surgeries because they don’t work anymore and it’s impacting my quality of life.
@lacyreeves8304 I completely understand, I'm still having shoulder pain and numb upper arm still. My thumb is still not 100%. My doctor has to give me a disability rating due to the pain and weakness. It's not the end of the world, but definitely irritating since I was a jeweler of 32 years and that career is pretty much over 😢
Doctor, isn’t there a minimally invasive temporary solution like they do with the cartilage on the knee when they scope it?
You’ll make a great med school professor. I could listen forever even if I wasn’t in med school :)
Why can’t you just go in and scope the joint like you would do for a knee that’s bone on bone as a precursor to arthroplasty? Just buy me a few years…clean that joint out a bit…
I’m a teaching tennis pro (well used to be) still tennis is my hobby, my passion, my social life, my everything! 6 years ago at 56 years old I had my first major surgery ever, a rotator cuff repair…6 months later, a knee replacement…8 months later a hip replacement….10 months later the other knee replaced….then the other hip…..then I dive for a ball one day and then Spinal Stenosis L4/L5 lamenectomy surgery. After all that I’m still working out, taking care of my body, eating healthy and run8ng and jumping playing tennis at 62. THEN apparently GOD wants to write another chapter in the Torah called Job II the sequel and messes with my THUMB. I can’t hit a tennis ball with screaming from the pain in my hand/wrist/THUMB anymore. I’m told now I need a CMC ARTHROPLASTY and that this surgery is WORSE than any of the previous surgeries as far as pain and recovery goes! I mean WTF? But I heard the Doctor in this video say there is a MODIFIED version of of the CMC ARTHROPLASTY. Has anyone had such…is it an easier fix than the full cmc arthroplasty??? I’m feeling like a peice of burnt toast, my skeleton system is crumbling fast and all at one time 😢
i had my cmc joint replaced 6 weeks ago at The Cleveland Clinic. I can't imagine any other joint replacement being any "easier".
@@chuck188 THANK YOU for that! I've been stressing!
I had CMC Arthroplasty with flexor carpi radialis transfer on October 19, 2022, right hand. I’m right hand dominant. My cast was applied so tightly that there was difficulty and a lot of manipulation to get it off; I just about wretched and passed out. 5 months later, my hand is not healing well. It is noticeably smaller than my left and the entire hand feels inflamed with soreness and noticeable, stiff ligaments or tendons (?) showing through on the palm. I had an x-ray - bones look great. Onto an MRI and the next steps. As an aside, it will be an entire month of tolerating the current pain and inflammation before I could get an MRI appointment. Don’t take this surgery lightly. There’s a reason why you may receive a nerve block lasting about a week for this surgery.
How are you doing now?
So how do I suggest this to my doctor? Do I just show her your video?
Had cmc surgery 3 months ago and still have numbness in my thumb, index and middle fingers
Do you replace the trapezium bone after suspending the thumb bone?
No. It is left out and in this procedure nothing is put in its place.
That women looks attractive
He is blessing to mankind.... Enormous honours and respect to him...
Sorry, Doc, your explanation for night time numbness and pain (the worst of carpal symptoms) is, in my personal experience, inaccurate or incomplete. My experience is that even when I have a solid splint on the hand and wrist all night long ensuring that the hand is held straight I wake up at around 3.00 or 4.00am with finger numbness, and hand pain. If it is bad, I have to get up and walk around - sometimes icing the hand until the numbness subsides enough for sleep. If it is not too bad I hang my arm down the side of the bed and after 10 minutes or so the numbness and pain subside. In my case nothing to do with bending the wrist while asleep.
Why does thumb lock
trigger thumb
Excellent description….not even in books
Amazing!! I had CMC surgery on July 22, 2022 and I'm still not completely recovered the use of my thumb, I had middle finger and thumb trigger finger releases, carpal tunnel, trapeziectomy with tendon transfer and two large bone spurs removed at the same time. It's really been rough!!
I had this CMC surgery about 3 years ago, and had full range and function in about 2 months. Hope you get better soon.
Who published the paper he refers to where 1mm shrinkage of collateral ligament results in loss of 30 degrees of Mcp flexion?
هل ممكن حد يترجمها للعربي م فهمت
I have my surgery next week on the 29th. 😬 I'm a little nervous about it. I'm going to ask my doctor, which I should have asked him in the office had I seen this earlier, what method he's going to use??? I've watched 3 different procedures for this surgery and I like this one best! Wish me luck that the quickest healing procedure will be used! 🙏😳
