Sangean WR-16, sometimes you've got to splurge!
มุมมอง 2.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I lucked out and found this WR-16 on Amazon for a terrific bargain, but if I had to buy this radio all over again I wouldn't hesitate to pay full price! There are lots of inexpensive table radios out there but sometimes you've got to splurge if you want something nice (or find the bargains)!
Duronic ECHOHAND - You should have bought one when you had the chance!
มุมมอง 670หลายเดือนก่อน
Taking a quick look at the Duronic ECHOHAND. It's still available from Duronic but it is no longer the bargain it was back in 2020 and really not worth the premium you'd have to pay to get one. I first saw this reviewed by @todderbert and his review can be found here: th-cam.com/video/KdgXvDgINj0/w-d-xo.html I also saw a neat video by @TheRadiogeek where he opened one up: th-cam.com/video/IYV6r...
The Prunus J-160! The little radio that NEEDS a bigger brother!
มุมมอง 261หลายเดือนก่อน
Okay, so it really DOESN'T need a bigger brother but I wish there was a larger table radio version of this little guy! Very good sound for such a small radio and pretty good battery life. If you need a small radio to squeeze on your desk or other small spot, this one is worth a look! Part of what influenced my decision to buy this was the input from RADIOJAYALLEN radiojayallen.com/2021/08/31/pr...
MYSTERY RADIO - General Electric T199-D or is it?
มุมมอง 425หลายเดือนก่อน
I stumbled across this General Electric table radio and assumed it was a earl to mid-60's "solid state" radio. In fact, I was really surprised at just how light this radio was. Turns out it is an AM tube radio and from searching the internet I think this could be a model from the last 50's and I'm not sure if the model number on the back of the radio is correct!
Scanning the dial, which radio was best at pulling in channels?
มุมมอง 5242 หลายเดือนก่อน
This IS not a video where I scroll up and down the dial on camera! I did that ALL off camera but then decided to compare a few radios, (the Wenpzeray Y-706, XHDATA D-219, and the Kaito Voyager KA500), scanning the dial and writing down how many channels I could reasonably pull in on FM, AM, and SW. I was a bit surprised by the results!
AM Amuses Me
มุมมอง 4862 หลายเดือนก่อน
Playing around the other night I was able to pick up an AM station on some radios but not others and could improve the reception by positioning the radio. There is NOTHING amazing about any of this but it amused me nonetheless! And I WAS surprised that the Wenpzeray picked up the station so readily when other radios struggled to pull it in!
Wenpzeray Y-706 - Why isn't this $10 radio getting more attention?
มุมมอง 36K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
At $10, the XHDATA D-219 is everybody's favorite budget pick but as good as it is (and it IS a great little radio!) it is just an AM/FM/SW radio. The Wenpzeray Y-706 is currently selling on Amazon for under $10. It too is an AM/FM/SW radio but it also can be used as an MP3 Player or as a Bluetooth Speaker. The Y-706 can also run on AAA batteries OR on a BL-5C battery (not included). Considering...
MY idea (well not completely mine) to SAVE AM Radio
มุมมอง 1152 หลายเดือนก่อน
You can't "save" AM radio by broadcasting the same programming on FM, and digital AM doesn't seem like the "future" either. Maybe to "save" AM you have to steal a page from the "social media" play book.
Is this the best $10 radio you can buy?
มุมมอง 3.8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
The XHData D-219 seems like a bargain at less than $10. It does FM, FM2, AM, and SW! But, would you be better off spending more?
1964 General Electric P925 - "The Rip Van Winkle" of Radio!
มุมมอง 4333 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the video I messed up on the math but this radio waited 59 years to be taken out of the the box but instead of blasting the Beatles, Roy Orbison, the Drifters, the exploits of the 64 Yankees or Cardinals, it's mostly talk radio and static! I feel like this is the RIP VAN WINKLE of radios! It's been "woken" up in world much different than the world it was intended for! Still it plays reasonab...
General Electric P925 - Is buying a 59 year old radio NIB a bad idea?
มุมมอง 1.6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I saw another TH-camr post a video about the GE P925, brand new sealed in it's packaging and was captivated! Yes, it is only an AM/SW radio, two bands that I find next to nothing worth listening to, BUT it was also a time capsule! A BRAND NEW 59 YEAR OLD RADIO! This is a radio that came out YEARS before I was born and it was brand new! I quickly, searched out other videos about the P925, and th...
Do you NEED a radio in 2024?
มุมมอง 2073 หลายเดือนก่อน
Once upon a time radio was KING! It was how people kept up with news, listened to music and entertainment. Over the years radio has lost some of its dominance but still was considered an essential part of our lives. But, is that still the case in 2024? Today traditional broadcast radio struggles to remain relevant in the internet age and smart devices like Amazon's Echo Dot can keep us connecte...
More Bluetooth Thoughts!
มุมมอง 523 หลายเดือนก่อน
In my opinion almost any radio manufactured today should include Bluetooth, if for no other reason than to increase its usability. But what about radios that were manufactured long before Bluetooth was a thing? Is an FM or even an AM Transmitter the way to go? This video (link below) from Neil's Old Radios shows him adding Bluetooth functionality to a vintage radio. th-cam.com/video/yeItgbwC5KY...

C. Crane Solar Observer! A good emergency radio or a great portable?
After this video prices for this radio on eBay tripled!!
The single radio doesn’t come with any batteries. You have to buy the one pictured with a battery. Or I think the two radio bundle includes the batteries. It can be powered by the included USB cable. I connected it to a power bank and it worked fine. After about 5 minutes it shuts off but pressing the power bank button comes back to life and does the same a few minutes later. Connected to a wall plug it’ll probably stay on constant. The speaker is comparable to the Panasonic RF-150D which is $15 currently. Same size speaker it looks like. I read all the negatives but wanted to try it for the extras. Bluetooth worked. Will use with a card or USB stick. Thanks for the video!
I disagree about the “bug out bag” concept. Casual “preppers” especially those vulnerable to storms don’t want a cheaper disposable radios for their bag. Maybe this is more of a bug in radio which is what people mostly do anyway. That kaito ka336 is cheap and disposable and is a champ during emergencies for battery life and decent solar charging. I really like the ccrane ccradio though. My kid has one and I’m thinking about getting another.
That's pretty cool, best sounding AM I think I've ever heard.
Thanks for the link and discussion on the AM transmitter. The basic one looks very reasonably priced. I was looking at those on Amazon. I ended up with a cheap USB powered car FM transmitter. At least now I am able to use all the radios I have 😅. I have been resisting getting a refurbished AM tube radio because of the lack of content. Now I'm going to have to put one back on the list.
Love the idea of this AM transmitter. Fortunately I'm in an area that has a lot of AM programming
Very nice 👍
Thank you!
After my purchase I purchased 5 more of these for Christmas presents. Can't beat the price/quality of this little beast.
Personally, I've never heard a SW channel that was worth listening to.
I'm sure there would be those would disagree with you, but I understand your view.
Where is this radio manufactured?
according to the tag on the back, it is made in China.
@@RonsRadioCorner-xg2fb Thank you.
Back in the 90s Grundig compact SW radios were big, what is comparable with now.
I am not the right guy to ask.. but from reading about SW Tecsun seems to get a LOT of love.
Does it pick up CB radio frequencies? UHF and VHF?
AM/FM/SW
I got mine a few years ago for under $6 with free shipping, which is an absolute steal. It's been in the trunk of my car as a just-in-case for at least two years, and still runs fine when cranked. I think the power port with the included cable is for charging other devices (cell phone, etc). It can be used (with an adapter) to charge this radio, but the cable included was a female usb-A for charging other devices using the crank dynamo.
you could be right.
no longer 10 dollars
Keep looking at Amazon.. prices always go up and down on there!
I own this radio. Amazing sound. Lots of bass as well.
Agreed!
I'm pretty sure the word you're looking for isn't "lusted," it's "desired."
Desired works well. Coveted would have worked too.
@@RonsRadioCorner-xg2fb Oooh! Coveted is even better!
How are we looking here in Carrollton, Ga? BTW a Louisville, Ky native.
If this was an analog tuner, I’d get it. But that choppy tuning and narrow AM bandwidth makes it not a worthy receiver for me, personally.
I'm a big believer that a good radio is one that fits your needs. If you're not trying to pull in far away stations, amazing reception is not that big a deal, if you're listening to talk radio, you might not care about stereo, etc. etc. etc. I do wonder, if anybody is making a truly analog radio today.
Mine had clumps of crud in the tuner, blew it out and it worked fine. Found it at a ham fest years ago.
It seems everyone who has one can get it to work.. which isn't a bad thing!
I have the WR-11 40th Anniversary. A key to good sound is spacing to the rear wall. My radio has 40.75" inches and the sound stage is phenomenal. Any sound source same rule applies. Even a little transistor radio will take on a 3d acoustic presentation. Enjoy!
Dont be fooled, like I was, by a quality looking exterior. In my case, looked good on the outside but the insides were all cheap junk from china. A tiny 2 x 3 inch circuit board with a couple integrated circuit modules - and a lot of empty space. Crappy little speaker.
It’s the performance that counts at the end of the day. The innards of a human being aren’t exactly pretty either but we’ve done some incredible things.
Tragically, they're actively killing off AM radio here in the UK. 😢
I fear that will happen in the USA too. And I just bought an AM Transmitter because there is never anything I want to listen to on AM.
I love the aux input. Any audio source(smartphone, MP3 player, etc) can, with the right adapters will play through the radio. 🎵🎶🎵
I have said a few times, radio makers need to find ways to keep the product relevant, Bluetooth and Aux input really should be on just about every new radio made.
I have both the Sangean WR-11 and the Tivoli Audio Model One in deep Rosewood finish. Both are in flawless mint condition. Neither has seen much use because in rural areas, radio programming is lacking for an old fart like myself. I'm willing to let them go at reasonable cost if anyone is interested.
get an CCRANE FM Transmitter and enjoy them both listening to your own music library or whatever you can stream off a laptop.
I got this model from the US 6 years ago despite living in NZ and the line voltage being totally different. And the reason was because the US version has the F type antenna connection where as other country versions dont. I originally supplied power via a wallwart but have since converted the internal transformer to 230v. Its sound is very bass on FM but on AM its superb and is definately a room filler.
FM in the Americas and South Korea uses 75 ųs pre-emphasis but the rest of the world uses 50 ųs. This may be the cause of your model's bassy audio on FM.
I have what appears to be the same radio. Mine has fake woodgrain on the top and sides, which is why I bought it since woodgrain is fairly uncommon on tube sets and became popular in the mid 60s with the solid state table radios. Cannot tell if your radio has fake wood finish or not. The label on my set is faded but it looks like the model number reads T-189D, but it could be T-199D (even with a magnifier it is hard to tell).
I got the 11 for my wife several years ago and she loves it. It really does sound great and is simple to use. Win-win.
Have you looked inside? That is what would seal the deal for me. Something well engineered that performs well at a reasonable price. Funny thing is it is about the same price as the list price back in the late 60's for a KLH Model Twenty One table radio.
I have not opened it up, but Radio Jay Allen's review shows the inside.
Received the WR 11 several years ago as a gift. Excellent sound and secondary features=superb radio.
I bought one the older version of these to fill in for a broken studio monitor. Its advantages are that it comes back on after a power outage, it has an audio output, 2 channels but actually monaural. The external antenna hookup for both AM and FM seals the deal. The model I have doesn't have Bluetooth.
An inexpensive, but high quality AM FM Swb with weather bands is an important device for every home or rv/camping/car emergency kit. Everyone thinks of the band aids and the beef jerky but how many think of being able to keep up with information that could save your life. Nobody wants to worry about being isolated during or after the storm/earthquake/wild fire/other major disaster.
I would probably recommend the XHData D219 over the Wenpzeray for an emergency kit radio. I really wish XHData would release a version of D219 without the FM2 band but with Weatherband.
“Coveted” lol
A great review
Thank you!
Why are you using only the bottom half of the screen?
Looks pretty cool thank you for sharing
i just got the d220 and went for a walk with my dog while listening through the headphones to beethoven 9, 94.5 with headphones. it sounded very good. the batteries are going strong after several days. the shortwave picked up a couple of spanish stations from south or central america. i'm happy with my purchase.
Mono or stereo?
@@Seekthetruth3000 stereo. i can't deal with mono. incidentally, one side of my sony headphones just quit on me. they lasted for a while. i bought another pair for 20.00 at the supermarket. they are decent for the money. it seems they all give out after a time.
What bands does this radio have? It has short wave and medium wave? Or it has only medium wave and has no short wave? Did you buy this radio from a shop in USA? I have an analog, retro, old sw,mw,fm radio sony icf 704 s. My radio sony has short wave, thankfully,so i can listen to foreign radio stations, mostly from China,Turkey,Rumania,N.korea.I also can receive the Voice Of America in English on short wave from Washington,D.C.,in Belarus. I respect Voice Of America on short wave. My name is Igor Belevich . I am 40 years old. I am from Belarus.
This has FM/AM and SW. I think if you're really into shortwave you'd want something more dedicated to shortwave than this. But this is a fun radio.
Здравствуйте! Отличный приёмник! 👍🎉
Hello Ron
u did not test SW
I have that. I was disappointed it was so small. And there's no way to turn the dial light off. Like if someone wants to sleep in the dark. It does have good sound for it's size. It has shortwave reception too. I understand how replacing the battery would be an issue. If mine went dead and wouldn't take a charge, I'd open it up, or do my best. If I ruin it, oh well. Couldn't use it if it wouldn't hold a charge. Except maybe leaving it connected to a charger all the time.
looks like a toaster
Your kitchen table is the exact same as mine. Raised all my kids around it for decades.
That looks a lot like a GE radio that I bought while in High School. 64-65 or so. It was not as good as some Japanese radios, or some American tube radios that I had.
Yeah, 60 years later it feels like it was not the top of the line model, but it seems most people who have one are still able to use them.. so that's saying something!
The screws for the back cover are under the label. The battery is easily replaceable.
My guess is most will not bother to try to replace the battery.
Any list of low priced solar radios
this video could be a lot shorter. btw, all these people into SW--what exactly are they listening to?? religious broadcasts??
Everything is out there. Pirate radio broadcasts, News from other countries is different then what they tell us in the states. Spy radio stations like espionage number stations. You can also hear our military gearing up before big war strikes that are occurring. It is very interesting if you know where to listen.
Too late for this video, but I saw more of the door in the background than I did of the radios you were featuring...
Hi Ron I love the same things
must be something about Ron's thinking alike..
Radio is number one for news and emergencies, cell phones can go dead, cable or any wireless devices also, the old standby will always be there as long as there is someone to say something on the air, that's why I will always have a radio 📻 with me at home 🏠 and at work, been a radio listener for over 50 years and always be one...
I agree that radio is #1 for emergencies but fear if that is the only time people are tuning in, it won't be a viable enough business to really flourish.
