I've always known we have Scottish ancestors, but it didn't show up in my specific Ancestry DNA results-though my cousin's did. Well, my mother finally took the 23andMe test, and hers confirmed Scotland, with a "very close" genetic link to Fife! I’ve been to Edinburgh before, and I absolutely loved it-it felt like home.
Fife is such a beautiful part of Scotland, check out some of my other videos from there, culross, dysart, crail, pittenweem, falkland and st andrews. It will give you an idea of the place. I hope you visit sometime soon. Have you traced your ancestry? It could lead you to some amazing places.cheers g.
Love the views, stayed for the background soundtrack. The wife's family is from around there(Montgomerys).. Cheers and thanks.. Steve 😎
@kujo5424 thanks steve, I really enjoyed making this one. I do all the music myself, so I'm always chuffed when folk like it. Thanks again for watching, cheers g
Great video mate. A nice wee trip down memoery lane for me. Flannigans was my first pub ever, and i loved it there. To be fair, most pubs in Bathgate were good back in the 80s. The auld miners was superb on a Sunday for a sing song and the best characters you could ever meet. Its been 40 years since i was last in my hometown, and its changed so much, why have they destroyed the steel yard 😢
@thetone1526 Bathgate was brilliant years ago but I guess it's just the same everywhere. The local clowncil is all about livi and to hell with everyone else. Glad you enjoyed it, I did one of Whitburn and Armadale too, cheers g.
This was the home of my 4th great grandmother , Mary Bathgate. She migrated to America in 1851. Not much there she would recognize. She was born there in 1797.
@randyhunter7611 there are a few buildings dating before then.cheers g
My
The Waterfall in Armadale. I had my engagement party in it. Its the new Doctors Surgery now.
When did it move?
Hi, may I know whether one to two hours of walking is enough to see all the places in this video?
@truth8307 yes, probably about two hours if you include a ☕️ ,cheers g
Very relaxing viewing, Well done 👍
Thanks,im glad you liked it. It gives folk an idea of places to visit, and a wee chill out too, cheers g.
I've been in more attractive War zones.
@2msvalkyrie529 ha ha ha, I guess it's not for you then. How many warzones have a greggs? Lol
Actually, Jim Jeffries was brought up in Wallyford, a village 1 mile south of Musselburgh. A village with a host of professional footballers and managers, namely, Jock Wallace (Rangers FC) Jim Jeffries (Heart of Midlothian FC) John McGlynn (various, now Falkirk FC) Pro Footballers; Tam McLeod (Falkirk FC) Jim (Jumbo) Brown (Aston Villa) Tommy Donaldson (Aberdeen FC) plus others.
@willbee6785 it's a bit like broxburn/Uphall you dare not get it wrong even though they are joined together, thanks for the comment, sometimes I do get things wrong, cheers g.
@@thekiltedcyclist4698 No problem. 👍
Reputed to be the cheapest area in the UK to buy a house.
I sometimes used to go on holiday to Girvan when I was a child in the 1960s. I remember going on the little motor boats around the boating pond and I can remember there was also a futuristic structure on the island in the middle. Maybe my memory deceives me, but Girvan is looking very run down compared to what I can remember.
From 3:02 myself and my wife are in this video lol Right side shorts and checkered shirt Stopped to yap
Well spotted
Morning Throughly enjoyed this. Thanks for all the information and history. Hope you're having a good weekend
Thanks for watching, im filming Lake Garda in Italy just now, not Scotland but beautiful too, cheers g.
Ive lived in Arbroath since i was 5, now 55. A once vibrant, busy wee town has.been run down by an incompetent wasteful council and a massive unwanted influx of immigrants.
No. Brought up there, left 47 years ago. Went last week and was horrified at the main street. Only lasted 1 night. Won't be back.
That's a pity, sometimes our memories of a place are better left alone. Going back can be tough
Thank you for this, my family is deeply tied to this area (McDonnalls and Grahams) and it was great to see what the area looks like 💚
My pleasure, im glad you enjoyed it.cheers g.
i hardly reconise the new builds
I know, the place has changed quite a bit
Lovely video , and the music what is the music please ❤
@@elizabethrobertson5533 I compose it myself, im glad you like it.
@@thekiltedcyclist4698 thankyou be good if you could make a playlist on your channel talented composer 🥰
@elizabethrobertson5533 ha ha, that's very kind of you, youtube doesn't allow copyright music, and as I play keyboards and guitar I recorded music that goes with my films, it's not to everyone's taste but one of my tracks has been played on local radio so they must be OK, cheers g.
Nice historical tour 👍
@@technogrumpsy cheers
Great video. Lived on Belville Steet and emigrated to Ohio in 1952 when I was 10.
@lrennie5543 I'm glad you enjoyed it, its always nice to show expats their home town. Cheers g.
Very good... I enjoyed watching this
@cameronmacandrew3001 thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Acá se puede fumar un porro?
Not legally, but people do
@@thekiltedcyclist4698 gracias!
Is it the same size as the gibson LP? How about the weight?
Yes, almost exactly the same size and VERY heavy, it's absolutely solid. I would got for the next model up with stainless steel frets. Hope this helps
Thanks,I like heavy guitars because it helps the tone
I was in Bo'ness recently and was also struck by the number and quality of Art Deco buildings. However, you have missed out a lot by sticking to the town centre. Travel up the hill and some of the houses are stunning.
@fionaramsay9157 unfortunately I have found that people tend not to watch more than 10 minutes so I try to get as much in as I can, to give a flavour of the area. Thanks for your comment, cheers g
Nice one George
if you want good sounds. I recommend that you can record an video in the front of your amp. Or buy an otg connecter. because if you use that. Your guitar videos or sounds will sound good.
God awful singing and song.
Living her one bad thing nothing to do with
G'day to you! Always wondered what our Name Sake Looked Like, thanks! Perth West Aust!
@paultanker5606 always nice to hear from down Australia, I'm sure your weather is better. I did another video of Perth that is probably a better view of the place, cheers g.
Thank you for that. I haven't been back for a few years. And a lot of great memories. 👍
@@canoecycle7005 it's a nice wee place
Spent so many happy holidays in Girvan in the 50s and 60s. Hardly recognised it now. Used to be 2 cinemas, theatre, dancing at the bandstand on Stair Park, several hotels, lovely shops - and of course the motor boats!
@Geraldine-mq1cw brings back great memories too. That's what my films are for cheers g.
Beautiful! Love your music!

Short answer....Nope.
That would be a shame, most places with a crap shingle beach would kill for Girvans sand
Such a lovely drive around that town pleasant and lovely went back to London my depression returned
That's why I make my videos, a relaxing view of interesting places to watch during the cold dark winter.cheers g

Really wonderful to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Watching the Air Cadets I think it was none of them were in step with each other.
That's true, but you don't know how much drill time they have done, and one or two people can throw it all out of sync.
Shame you didn’t go over the area of Starlaw! Was hoping to see my house! Nice videos! 👏 - subscribed
Fab soundtrack Great video Really enjoyed this Morgs Jo and Boo 🐕
Thank you, im never sure if people will like the music, glad you did, cheers g.
Well done Big Yin!
Cheers
What a beautiful video with perfect music choice 😊 Looks a lovely place Have a great weekend
@morgsjoboo2247 thank you, it's a nice place to visit, not too big and quiet.
Loved it, well done. I;m now session clerk at Boghall Parish Church where you will see the old gates of the North British Steel foundry gates in the Garden and we are turning the garden into a community resource with a project called Artlink Ediburgh Come and see it if you are interested. Robert Gemmell
@rbgemmell2 sounds interesting, if im nearby I'll pop in. I remember the gates pretty well. I thought they were scrapped
Lived in Girvan for 4 years now and I absolutely love it. Yes, the high street has some empty shops but so does every other high street. Loads going on if you want to get involved. Beautiful beach, fabulous countryside. Local butchers, greengrocers, gift shops, original clothing shops. Lovely people. Don't knock it.
@@SandraMulligan-r2p I like Girvan, I hope it gets better.
a love days out in girvan so relaxing
@@fay791 I can't believe the place isn't more popular, such a nice beach
Girvan has been forgotten by the local authorities.
@dougie6886 most towns have suffered the same, one town gets everything and the rest get nothing
Sawley beans cave is 7 miles from Girvan, not 17.
@williammcilwraith9304 well spotted
@@thekiltedcyclist4698 All my family come from Ballantrae and it's 10 miles from Girvan. Never visited though before l left to make my fortune as they say, in England. I am actually visiting Girvan in a couple of weeks. Still got my accent though , even after 46 years away!
I was brought up in Girvan. Left when l was 21 to go to England for work.Son of a Girvan Fisherman. Still live in the Lake District. Like all costal towns in the UK they have seen better days.
When the sun shines it looks great
Nice video of our home town thank you
Sad my mother was from girvan and we always went down every summmer
Seriously doubt eh'll iver go back too Dundee Scotland.Think eh'd sooner go to Ireland.
