Patagonia 2024 - Glaciers, Fitz’s Roy, & Torres Del Paine Adventures!
We explore the remote region of Patagonia. Perito Moreno Glacier in Calafate and Laguna del los Tres and Fitz Roy near Chalten Argentina did not disappoint. We later cross the border to Chile and explore Torres del Paine hiking a modified W in reverse. The weather wasn’t ideal in Chile but we had a blast experiencing the harsh tundra of Patagonia. A trip of a lifetime…a trip we’ll never forget!

    Did you ever get a weight on this home? And how about a pin weight??

  • @peardarling
    @peardarling 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, did you pay additionally for the solar setup, or was that included in your 115,000 total?

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allison Shea yes solar is in that price. Believe our mid-grade package was $8,500. I also spent like $4k on the beetle kill pine and flooring upgrade.

  • @peardarling
    @peardarling 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Ben. We've just hired Tiny Heirloom to build us a custom tiny home. We actually watched your show the other day, your kids are adorable. I was wondering how you feel towing this thing? We plan to travel for a year or so and hear such mixed reviews about towing tiny houses. Would you feel comfortable towing this thing around the country with the appropriate truck? I thought that was your plan, which is why I'm asking. Did you decide not to tow after receiving it?

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allison Shea Honestly mine wasn’t built to tow. It weighs 20,000 pounds! They brought it to Colorado from Oregon using a F350 Dulley. The driver said it pulled pretty well but was very heavy and was kind of tough through mountain passes and such. If you plan on pulling this to travel I would use much lighter weight materials and probably keep the trailer smaller.

    i like this one a lot but why do you have two heating sources? i want it 10ft wide for me you have some good ideas great color scheme im going to either buy are build im gathering up all my info.

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Charlotte Scoggins I do have Two heating sources. The second is a mini split on the wall that does AC and heat.

    • @StriderGTS
      @StriderGTS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do those mini splits do when it gets cold?

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will heat the place up fast but I'm not 100% comfortable running the mini split on the battery bank...I'm completely off grid. So I use it to get the house to temp and then use the propane furnace which keep the house plenty warm. I maintained 70 degree in mid-teens temp outside recently overnight. The tiny house is a very tight efficiently insulated box.

    I have been looking at numerous of Tiny Home videos, and by far this is one of the nicest I've seen, with the exception of a lil extra knee crawling into the master bedroom. I have yet to see one built with a hand crank roof over the bedroom area(as in certain small campers to give some standing room), which I think would be very nice. I just can't handle that crawling, and I have to stand up straight to dress. lol. But this is amazingly beautiful!! Thank you for sharing. : ))

    Beautiful home. The video did not say nor did I see the question asked in the comments but I am curious of how many watts your panels are? I see your battery bank is supposed to provide 14,000w fully charged but no mention of the panels themselves.

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Solar panels generate 340 watts in full sun each...so just over 1,000 watts per hour. Still need to fully test but I assume if the batteries were flat it would take two days of sun to recharge.

    • @Mulingko
      @Mulingko 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ben Bigler good to know. thank you. it would be nice to get a follow up after using them for a few months if you find time. I have a couple 40w panels and it's incredible the wattage they put out depending how square they are to the sun. non direct light hardly gets you anything. So wonder how more efficient they would be on a solar tracking system to keep them running optimal.

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Steve F I plan on adding 3 more panels on the ground that will be adjustable...maybe motorized to follow the sun.

    Quick questions. - Does the solar provide enough to power all the electronic in the house? 6 batteries seem to be relatively small capacity to power the split-hvac and the dryer all the while charging other bits. - what's the water situation like? do you rely on fresh tank and fill it periodically? or are you running water of the grid? how is sewage being stored? or there's a septic tank below ground under the trailer?

    • @BiglerThanEver
      @BiglerThanEver 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't fully tested yet but it should NOT be a problem...battery bank produces almost 14,000 watts. I might need a few more panels to replenish the battery bank but the bank is large enough to run everything...just looking at the numbers. I plan to post a real world test this fall.

    Might be worth to put some sort of ladder system on both ends then your windows to clean the solar panels also serve as emergency exits if you need them. Obviously one that isn't accessible from the ground for safeties sake.
