Is Cambodia Safe to Visit in 2024?

I think this is a little misleading for Phnom Penh: the majority of the good quality furnished 2 bedroom 'Westernised' apartments in Phnom Penh's better areas (e.g. BKK1) were 1300 - 2000 USD on a rolling monthly rental. Electricity was invariably 25 - 30c per kWh. Places are very poorly insulated so my electricity was 350 USD a month. And in all my travels across multiple continents I have never seen such expensive imported goods (as a typical example, the cheapest tin of canned tomatoes I have seen after shopping around is 1.40 USD). I know you can live much cheaper, but I'm frankly disappointed by how much more expensive that comfortable western living is Phnom Penh compared to other countires in the region.

I got 2 x online E-type visas last week from the website. There are places to upload supporting documents but I didn't bother. They issued it anyway for both me (British) and my Thai wife. We will extend to either 6 or 12 months. The Ordinary visa is the E-Type visa - as printed on the visa. Took 3 days with zero supporting documents uploaded. Reason for visit : Want to rent apartment, maybe buy one later.....

Is there separate pricing for tourists? In places like Costa Rica they have "Gringo" pricing, where the price the exact same food or services higher because you aren't a local.

Visiting the Angkor temples is free for locals and expats that have been there for more than two years. For tourists, you have to buy a pass that's roughly $30 a day. When you're haggling with vendors, they will try to get more from you if you appear to be a tourist. Otherwise, everything is the same price. You'll never see a restaurant menu with separate prices from foreigners.

Actually, it hasn’t been called the “Business Visa” for a while now. It’s now the “Ordinary Visa” which in reality is the “E-Class Visa” not to be confused with an online “eVisa” and this is the ONLY type of visa you can turn into the 1-year “ER Retirement Visa” so arrive in Cambodia without a visa and after you get off the plane have $35 in US currency to pay for your “Ordinary Visa.” After a week, go to any Travel Agency and tell them you want to extend your “E Visa” into a 12-month “ER Visa.” They will ask you your age. As long as you’re 55 or older, you’re okay and fully qualified to get it. The cost is usually $290 and there is NO supporting documentation needed. No income qualifying. No bank deposit back home qualifying. No health certificate or police background check needed. Once you pay, they will contact you to let you know when to come back to pick up your passport with your new 12-month “ER Retirement Visa” sticker inside. NOTE: You can walk into the Immigration office to get your “ER Retirement Visa” for a lot less than $290 but it must be filled out exactly right or they will deny you AND they MAY ask for supporting documents proving income and perhaps other documents. Why take a chance?

yes some reasonable sounding long term visa options for retiring expats, but I read fine print now about Cambodia taxing foreigners income if they are in country for more than 182 days in a year. How does that work? Is every expat just lying or ignoring the taxation or is it just not being enforced?
