This video was mainly just a test to see how a stereo pair of microphones, in an X/Y pattern would respond to 5 different hammered dulcimers in a group. About the same time I was making this there was a discussion on www.EverythingDulcimer.com about different playing positions. One thing crashed into another and this video is the result.

Thank you, Dan and Ben. Wow! So enlightening. Ben shared a wealth of information, it was so fascinating to have a better understand of radiation treatments. Dan, you are so thoughtful to reach out during your own treatment to help others understand as well.. Hoping and praying for all the best for you in your treatment and recovery.

Thank you both for such an informative presentation. As a techie and dulcimer player, this was so interesting.. Dan, I wish you only good things on your journey. We met briefly at Evart many years ago. You have been instrumental in enabling me to move along the musical continuum. Best wishes from Havelock, QC.

I’m 69 years old, still working full time as a hospice doctor, and whatever talent I might have as a percussionist is untried, but these videos tempt me greatly to learn the instrument. I think the hammered dulcimer is beautiful. How sad it is that there is never enough time in one life to learn everything.

A friend just let me keep his hammered dulcimer for awhile, so I'm just learning how to play. As a fiddler, I already know lots of tunes. I'm finding it difficult to keep the hammers from striking more than one note at a time. Research reveals my hammers are designed for a dulcimer with more widely spaced strings. Then a dulcimer dealer told me to look up Bob Bedard's website. That led me to this series of construction videos. So informative. Wonderful craftsman. Many kudos to the video producer, too. As a video producer myself I have a heightened appreciation for how well done this series is. Good questions, rapport, camera angles, close-ups, intro graphics and music. Two very talented craftsmen. Salute!

wow! you host cool Irish musicians too :-) One of my Sligo Creek Hedge School campers taught this to the rest of this week. I made all my whistle players buy C whistles so they could play it. Lots of fiddlers in our town who love those D modal and G modal tunes, so one needs a C whistle.

For people who have NEVER played, how are we supposed to follow the patterns when it is being played so fast. Why didn't start very slowly first so people could see what you're doing. "In out" where?

Dan, One suggestion... I always start with the bottom course and work up. That way, if I install the wrong string (install a .022 plain steel where a .022PB should be) the incorrect string probably will be long enough to use on a higher course. Thanks for all the HD stuff you post. Jackson
