Drilling little holes in a soda bottle top make for a nice water sprinkler
Very helpful, thank you.
👍👍👍
Ive never seen this method before! Off to give it a try! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us!
Yes go for it, it really works.
Thank you for this video. You were very clear and precise about how to do it. I have one beautiful dahlia and now you've shown me how to make more. Blessings to you.
Tried this method now have multiple plants excellent tip
That's great 👍👍
Did these stay on heat pad for 3 weeks?
They were on bottom heat just until roots started to show 2 to 3 weeks
@@sausagefingersgardeningtip2326 Thank you, a great video glad you're passing on this tip .
Washington girl here… I’m going to try this next yr!! Ty
Go for it, it really works
Çok güzel bir vidyo emeğinize sağlık kök sürdüğünüz beyaz krem nedir
It's hormone rooting powder.
I was searching for Dahlia tips, and I got a bonus tomato seedling tip. Thank you for both!
Do you sell tubers from your Dahlias?
Do you sell/ship Rhubarb and Custard tubers in the UK?
No sorry, I only have a couple for breeding with
I dont think many or possibly any will root, because the cuttings are too small, dahlia cuttings are difficult anyway this reduces their 4:10 4:15 chances further.
That's where ur wrong they root perfectly and more percentage that normal cuttings, I suggest u try it before u knock it
My dahlia is dying, all the leaves are turning brown. It has enough water. Can I make some new cuttings to make a new one?
Will the cuttings grow 'tubers' in the first year?
Yes absolutely, not massive one but tubers yes
@@sausagefingersgardeningtip2326 cheers...my first year of cuttings after watching your videos...
Yes not massive but decent tubers yes
Do you have to have rooting powder? I’m new do dahlias but I love them.
No not compulsory but I always use it, some never use it and still works great 👍👍
I just read yesterday that you can use cinnamon powder and honey instead of buying root powder. I'm trying it to see if it works.
No you don't have to, it's just something I use on all cuttings
I’m thankful to you for posting this tutorial and thankful to your grandfather for passing this propagation method down to you. I had great success with this method, and it was the first time I’ve ever tried propagating dahlias! Thank you so much!
That's great and thank you, it's a great way 👍👍
I did as you said and doubled the number of dahlias I've got, cutting in half the cost of buying a six-pack of the plants. They look vibrant!
That's brilliant, it's a great way to increase stock fast, good luck 👍👍
Well. Now I have to go revisit the cuttings I took yesterday lol.
Good luck 👍👍
There so beautiful.my friend gave me one and it was the coolest surprise!!
Just made my first dahlia cuttings this afternoon! Thank you
Wonderful video; short, sweet, to the point, and great pictures and camera work. I plan on trying this next year for some older and hard to get rarities i want to grow and pass on to others to keep the gene pool going. Thanks!
Thanks, but what if you don’t have root hormone? I was wondering if they will root in water? My landscaper broke of several branches from my newly planted dahlia that is only 8 inches high.
So glad you taught me this! Thank you.
Good luck 👍👍
This split stem cutting technique can be used on fuchsias when you are short of cutting material.
You can use it on any soft stem plant
Excellent video thank you .👍
2.34 What is the name of the medicine you used to root it?
It hormone rooting powder

Will be trying this system. I have a couple of questions though. How often do you water and if you don’t use a heat mat, how would you suggest you get the heat? Windowsill with direct sunlight or shaded sunlight?
Thank you for sharing this. I have been gardening for over 50 years and never seen this method. I always thought cuttings had to be taken right down at the tuber.
Glad it's helped u, good luck 👍👍
A brilliant video tutorial in both Part 1 and Part 2. Thank you for sharing the knowledge you gained from your grandfather. I’m going to give this a go.
That's great, good luck 👍👍
Will the cuttings flower in the creation year?
Yes they will flower and make tubers
I’m going to give this a try to save one of my dahlias…🤞🏼🙏🏼
Great! Thank you!🎉
Which season is better for cutting??
Spring time thru too summer is always the best time for any cuttings
What a great video, thank you for sharing! I'm wondering if horticultural grit the same thing as coarse sand? I've never seen horticultural grit here in the USA but we have plenty of sand! ♥
Sand is great too but not builders sand as it has salt in it.
Thank you so much . I have my tubers in gallon pots and growing . I will be trying this method in the summer
Can I use this method without a heatmat and just putting them at the window in my bedroom?
Yes of course as long as its not cold, a window sill is great, bottom heat like my hotbed or a heat matt just speeds up rooting but ur good with a window sill 👍👍
🌸🌸 Will those leaf cuttings produce ‘tubers’ or just a plant and blooms?
No the will make good tubers,
Why do you cut the leafs in half?
It's to stop transpiration when moisture evaporates thru the leaves
Perfect, just the info and method I needed, thanks. Just subscribed .
Thanks for this info! Just wondering….should this be done in the spring from plants in the early stages of sprouting?
Yes spring time is best, all the timing is exactly the same as normal stem cuttings, good luck 👍👍
Great, thank you, I’m in NZ so the seasons are back to front, the dahlias are huge and happy and I’m impatient to give this a go ! 😂😂
This is brilliant! Thank you so much. At the end do you mean put them on a heat mat?
If its still cold I'd say yes, a bit of bottom heat is always good for any cuttings, good luck 👍👍
Thank you for the excellent videos! I'm wondering, can you repeat the process on each of these four cuttings again? At what point would you consider these young leaf cuttings to be mature enough to give ~4 more leaf cuttings each?
I'd say as soon as it's big enough to multiply again, as long as there's a decent size leaf node u can keep going
Question: At what point do you plant these in garden after? Also, when you see a sprout are they eventually making tubers under them? Thanks for any answers.
You can plant them out as soon as there big enough like a normal cutting weather permitting of course, they make a normal tuber just like a stem cutting.
@@sausagefingersgardeningtip2326 I appreciate you.
Thank you for sharing this❤️
Your welcome, hope it helps 👍👍
Wonderful!
Very informative video 😃 I had one question, will shoots need to be young for this to work? Can I try this with side branches of my plant?
Yes will work too, as long as there a leaf node should work great 👍👍
@@sausagefingersgardeningtip2326 Thank you very much! Excited to give it a try 😄
looking forward to having a go and that. Thanks.
This is such an informative video, thank you! Are there drawbacks to letting the plants get bigger before taking the cuttings? Do smaller cuttings root better/faster?
I don't think the size matters as they all seem to root fine 👍👍
Thank you! I'm in Canada and will look for these halos - very good idea!
Okay 3rd comment on my 3rd video watched.... I have had this problem too and so thank you so much for sharing this! Please keep making videos when you can 🌻
