Ever since I can remember I have been working on cars. I always check youtube for How-to videos. Now that I am a bit more experienced I figured I could start lending the DIY help to others. Ill try to record and share step by step tutorials as well as any tips and tricks I find along the way. Other than the regular work I should have some projects underway that we can track .
Drivetrain Update - Major Progress Made - 1958 Plymouth Plaza Resurrection Project Episode 02
It has been a long time since we had any updates on Matts Car. In this video we update you on what the status is on the car and what is left.
Before it came to the shop Matt had a welder come in to put in mounts for the motor. While it has been at my shop we have performed the following work.
- All new brake lines, brake hoses, wheel cylinders, and mater cylinder
- Removed rear differential and resealed and replaced pinion gasket
- Installed Radiator, hoses, and fan/shroud (still need to wire it)
- Wired the ignition and starter circuit to the key (need to clean up)
- Installed Alternator and Bracket
- Installed Shifter and cable (will need adjusted)
There is much more left to do on our list to get this on the road. But we are hoping to have it moving within a month!

This video is a quick check in on how the fth avenue is going. Apologies if the video jumps around a bit as I wanted to make sure I touched on as many subjects and next steps as I could. We haven't taken alot of time to tinker. But I did want to provide the parts we used on the build in relation to the cam and pistons etc. We also run through all the issues we are having that need addressed bef...

In todays video I work on my neighbors (well former neighbors) Jeep Cherokee. The car was towed in with a CRANK NO START with codes P1391 and P0340. Both were related to Cam and Crank Sensor. Since one of the Codes was the CAM sensor only we started with that replacement. I noticed on changing it the magenet was not attached anymore but honestly didn't think anything else of it. Continuing to troubleshoot the issue on the car. We did a tune up since it was needed from sitting . We also found the intake gasket was likely leaking so it was replaced and everything cleaned. We cleaned out the fuel rail and injectors. After assembling everything it was running much better but I found the Throttle body is leaking at the O-ring. Next video I'm hoping all of this work comes to...

Today we replaced Pads and rotors on my sister in laws Dodge Dart. During an inspection of the car a few weeks back I had noticed the front rotors were rusting out. In these cases its needed to replace them along with new pads. The to...

After leaving the car on the lift we finally went back and put the transmission back in. While it was removed we replaced the rear main seal and the oil pressure sensor. It had some kind of algae growing on the outside of the car and the tires were completely rotted out. The biggest being a massive oil leak. Replacing an AC Compressor AGAIN! - 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 AC Compressor Replacement - Clutch fixed!
I use a magnetic spark plug socket. The rubber insert style is too outdated.
@@evertmorse8518 yeah I agree magnetic is much better hair haven’t picked up a set . The ones I used in this video were very old . I did pick up a new set of Quinn spark plug sockets from harbor freight . Done a few plugs and the rubber didn’t fall out of them . Magnet is on the list of things to get though . Sometimes I just use sockets with no rubber and use a magnetic pickup to get the plug out or use the coil itself to grab it .
Another guy disconnected positive cable in fuse block. Hooked up a peice of wire to the end and fed it down thru as he pulled starter down and used that wire to pull main red cable back up to fuse block. Look up short cut for dodge dart starter
I have a Dodge Dart 2013 Limited my car turns on but won’t crank . This was after I had an oil change & the mechanic cleaned my censors & battery. I’ve replaced my censors & nothing please HELP🙏🥲
I drove it for about an hour after he worked on my car & my car wants to crank but it just doesn’t pull through I had a jump start & nothing.
Been having the same problem, I got the bolts out of the starter and began to wiggle it out. Something told me to continue watching and sure shit. Had some corrosion on the grounds. Cleaned them up with a wire wheel and cleaner. Fired right up.
@@justwatching3124 glad to hear it !
Dude!!!! Thank you for this video and going step by step and filming everything! I’m going through the same thing with our 2016 T&C.
@@jyo7430 glad it was helpful ! Hope the repair goes smooth for you and don’t forget that zip tie :)
Was there any codes? I have a 14 dart that no crank no start with power. It had p0340, p0345 crank and cam codes. Not sure if it’s ground, starter, sensor for those relate.
I don’t recall this having any codes during this repair . Maybe because it died randomly and wasn’t intermittent . It is good to rule out a bad ground as that can cause tons of issues and make sure the car is charging properly . Bad grounds and low voltage makes things go crazy and throw codes . If that doesn’t help then I would say inspect the cam and crank sensors including wiring. Then if you just want to parts cannon try swapping them . Usually bad cam or crank sensors it’ll still crank but may not start.
I’ve been looking for this I’m going to try it tomorrow
My friend what's the spark plug gap for 2005 trail blazer Ls v6
Added a new starter from napa on my 2016 dart cause it was clicking, installed it and started grinding. Got 1 from autozone it also started grinding as soon as it engages and for about half a second after it turns on. Put the old 1 back on and no grinding noise at all. Everything seems to be the same any clues
My man, my dart was starting to act funnyand I could tell it wasn't an alternator and but your video is fucking right on! I did the same upgrade and it's like a fucking new car! What a shit ground by dodge. I get a 2.0 2016 ,speed at a steal. I've upgraded, deleted and keep up on it! Overall it's not a bad little ride!
@@johnmcchesney628 hopefully the fix helps . The lack of solid thick grounds is such a cheap out for dodge to do . It can’t cost that much money to have a thicker gauge and better mount points.
I did this job by myself in a dirt driveway and wasn't too bad. Seen how the lines went in the transmission and decided to go the way of a fuel pump I had to do once, cut an access hole/door to it. 5 minutes later they were disconnected.
@shawnyoung5960 I’ve done access holes before on vehicles if thr owners are okay with it. Didn’t even think about it for this job but great idea . Had a rusty avalanche with a bad fuel pump and cut a hole for that and like you said 5 minute job for an access hole . These trailblazers are tanks the one in the video is well close to 250k and chugging .
Would this be the same on a 1.4L turbo?
Excellent video ! thanks for your time … next for me replace ignition coil and 4 sparks ! OEM
Glad it was helpful. Hopefully your car is back up and running quickly!
OMG I'd kiss you if I could! My husband and I spent like 20 min trying to figure out what the heck was wrong and how to get it to work! I figured it was an issue with the wire, but didnt know the wire pulled a lever! Thank you SO much!
@@3810-dj4qz I’m flattered lol . thanks for the comment ! So glad the video helped you . Even if it’s just to pull the lever under the seat . So far my mom’s van has been fine since I made the video and repaired it . I heard the dealer charges and arm and a leg for this . Have a merry Christmas !
thank you
Thank you for an excellent video. Very well filmed and explained. I'll be replacing mine this weekend and I'll have this video on my iPad.
@@Golan_Trevize hope the repair goes smoothly ! Thanks for the comment
I recently had all of my spark plugs changed because that’s what the check engine light report said. But after they were changed, I still had a shake in my motor. What could possibly be the cause!
My orange dart does this too.
Perfect
My wife’s van needed this fix and you did an awesome job explaining everything!!! I’m not going to fix the cables now but if I need to I know where to go to!
thank you. you make it look easy. hope my job will be successful too
@@daviddisandro821 best of luck just take your time ! When in doubt take pictures as you go before removing anything .
No crank no start... but was dash lighting up?
Yes dash had lights on but would not crank . Ground was making contact but not enough for the amps the starter needed . If you have no lights or power in car make sure battery isn’t dead
@JustFixinGarage good to know ..just looked at a dart to buy... lights came on...dash lit up .. but wouldn't crank...and said. Trans service ..and gear selector sensor... which Is range sensor... but also said .. hydraulic pump stuck closed.. Man I know this car in perfect shape clean...100k.. but looks like 40k... can't need the dcct pump...range sensor ...and a dang battery... he also showed us the car with a 510cca lil Honda battery ... so I could tell the car was struggling for power...by the dome lights
@ sometimes when you look at a car and it seems like they half ass put it together (wrong battery) it’s enough red flags to pass out unless it’s cheap . I’ve made the mistake once of ignoring a few red flags on an eclipse I bought that broke down on the ride home lol. Never again
Do I need to disconnect the battery before cleaning the ground wire?
@@notarealchannel9629 you might as well so you can clean the battery side too.
Have you done a transmission filter change and transmission fluid on the charger is it a 5 speed ?
I have not but I have had the parts and fluid sitting on my shelf for months ! I’m planning to do it soon and film it. I also have a few leaking coolant hoses also sitting on my papers shelf.
Great video, like how you did step by step from the beginning I figured out why these are breaking The cable isn’t lining up in the track of the cam as the seat folds forward. The cable slides off to one side and frays it. It needs be v shaped as the cable enters the cam so it stays in the groove. It would be an easy if they made groove slightly wider at entry point
It’s easier to drop the A/C compressor and remove the alter it from the bottom.
@@nicholastrageser7227 haven’t seen it done this way . Might be worth you making a video for it to help others out . Didn’t have a problem with the method I did maybe an hour job if I did again.
Thx you did a great job
Great video,thank you.
I did this today and it worked like a charm. I didn't use the wire- to engine trick. I just took it apart and cleaned up the ground wires and she fired right up 😁 Thanks guys.🙏. TH-cam rules 💯

@@dennism3403 well if it comes to that don’t worry I have another video :)

Tried cataclean but the code always comes up after resetting and going for a ride. Any tips I replaced all 4 sensors already spark plugs, coils, timing belt tensioner a pulley a lot of stuff but nothing changes
OMG I have the same torque wrench
I just watched your video and have a question that you might be able to answer. I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 Gas and a mechanic replaced my original equipment AC compressor. I discovered that he lost one of my mounting bolts. My set up looks exactly like what is in your video. Do you have a source where I can get a replacement bolt so that I have 4 instead of 3. When I showed the mechanic that the bolt was missing, he ordered a replacement, but it is not correct and I'm looking to get the bolt myself. The missing bolt is (when looking at the 4 bolts straight on) it is the one in the upper right corner. Any help would be appreciated.
@@MyMaddiesMom best option is to just remove the bolt and take it to a hardware to get the thread pitch checked on what is is . Then measure its length . Tractor supply has a large variety of bolts I have used in a pinch . It doesn’t need to be a “ford” bolt . Just the right thread pitch and length . I have even bought off Amazon when needed.
@@JustFixinGarage Understanding that I do not have the bolt for that upper right position so I don't know it's correct length since it is shorter. Do you have a suggestion how to discern the length needed. I believe that you want me to use one of the other 3 bolts for the thread pitch. Perhaps put one of the 3 bolts in the upper right position and mark that bolt where it bottoms out in the upper right position. ?
@@MyMaddiesMom use a screw driver or something smaller than bolt and see how deep it goes into the hole before stopping . Get one shorter than that . Use a bolt from another hole that you have to get thread pitch. You just need to make sure the bolt you use isn’t so long that it bottoms out . So if you find out the bottom out depth by marking the screw driver with tape and measure just get it 10 mm shorter or so than that and you should be good
@@JustFixinGarage Thank you for advice and video!!!
Do you have Honda Jazz or Honda Fit Hybrid? You said that the new part is KYB348016 but that comes up as Jazz not Fit, but in the beginning of the video you mention Fit. Thanks in advance for any info..
This was a regular Honda Fit specifically I think it was a 2013. The rear shocks we used were indeed the KYB 348016 which fits Rear; Base Model or DX Model or LX Model or Sport. It should fit 2009-2013 specifically.
also depending on your country (I am in the States/USA) the name of the car could be different. So it may be correct. Per google "Honda uses the "Jazz" nameplate in Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, Macau, Southeast Asia and India; and "Fit" in Japan, Sri Lanka, China, Taiwan and the Americas."
So in Ireland we have both Jazz and Fit Hybrid (Fits are direct imports from Japan). They do look bit different..I think yours is Jazz (our Jazz), judging by the lights. Still, I wonder if the parts are the same for both. Thanks!
What if it doesn't anything when you touch the alternator bolt??
@@kaylakeller-arnold5797 may be a bad starter then . You’ll want to check power to starter as well as power to the signal wire when cranking then work it out from there
Will the starter still click when it's a bad ground or is that the starter itself that's gone? I'm having similar issues with my 2013 dart
@@jeffboutilier5075 it can still Click and fail to fully kick on due to a weak ground. It takes alot of power/ground to enact the starter. A bad starter can also do that though .
@@JustFixinGarage thanks for getting back to me, I checked the ground with the wire like you showed, it appears to be the starter. Appreciate the quick response 👌
@@jeffboutilier5075 for sure man . I do have a video on replacing the starter . If you have a good set of ramps or jack stands and some patience you can definitely take it on yourself :)
@@JustFixinGarage I watched that today actually. I'm unfortunately dealing with a torn rotator cuff so I think I'll take it to the repair shop. Appreciate the videos that you do
I’m trying to save money so this video helped🫶🏻
@@truffles181 glad it was helpful ! Sometimes it’s nice to have a video for reference :)
I just changed out my ignition assembly. This was very helpful. A couple notes on the part change. #1 you can change this without removing the airbag and steering wheel. #2 a mirror is going to be helpful to spot the bottom screws #3 A 7/32 inch Socket works for the small screws (if you don't have a 5.5mm) #4 you'll need a low profile 1/4 drive socket driver to remove the front facing screw on the right of the assembly. A full size socket driver will not fit with the steering wheel on. I had a 1/4 small breaker bar with a short 7/32 inch socket. #5 Use a Dremal Tool with a cutoff wheel to grind a slot in the security screw. Toss a towel in front of the instrument cluster to keep the sparks and metal from spraying the cluster while cutting the slot. In the video he used a full size grinder definitely overkill as he mentioned a Dremal would be better. The screw is not super torqued so if you cut a slot in it you will be able to remove it easily and can even reuse the screw. I purchased the replacement part from AMZN. $45 with 2 day shipping on Prime.
@@savannahtraderful thanks for the added notes to help others . I did this on a mariner same setup and actually used a chisel to loosen the security bolt . Grinder was way overkill ! I didn’t try to avoid taking off steering wheel as it only took me about 15 minutes since it’s like my 5th car doing this on lol
Thanks for the video! Will introduce a new ground now!
Ground motor the ground worked on my 2015 dodge dart SXT 2.4 L as of this moment if I were any more problems with the gremlins I will let you guys know this is for electronic ground
I have a 2013 dodge dart that was running fine till other day I went out to start it and all lights came on my dash (check engine battery light overheating, etc basically every one) and gauges weren’t working (didn’t move the car) and wipers were going off by themselves could this be why ?
Does your radio screen light up white before car just shuts off and bluethooth not working or hands free mode
@@williampickett1026 not sure haven’t moved it since to scared to drive it just turned it on and it started doing all that 😫
@verenaabigail2230 same here it did that while I was driving and locked up my steering wheel while driving I'm in the process when I take a look at it to clean all cables going to battery and terminals with sand paper then ground points on frame also ( oil ) make sure that you are good on it that motor will shut off like that
Awesome video. I like the rundown of tools needed at the beginning so I could make sure I had everything I needed. Just fixed my wife’s 2011 Escape in just over an hour. Starts up great now.
The issue I'm having is I replaced my starter, and it didn't start so I checked the relays but still not start. I saw this video soon as I took it off at the motor; the connector broke off, so I had to order a new one. Hopefully it will start once i get that replaced
Did you try the jumper cable bypass? Best way to ensure that’s your problem. I would guess so since the connector broke off but give it a try!
You could have done everything from the top if you take the airbox off
Great video. I appreciated the tool checklist in the beginning. Followed along, and It took me about 2 hrs total. However, I do want to add a word of caution. When removing the coolant hose, I ripped the nipple off of the radiator tank. The hose was stuck pretty good. I wasn't particularly rough with the wiggling back and forth, but when the hose finally came off, the nipple came right with it. The radiator tank and nipple that the hose attaches to are one solid plastic piece. Didn't know that at the time. Had I known it was plastic, I would have taken a different approach. Advice to everyone attempting this, be extremely gentle when removing the coolant hose. Maybe use an angled pick or something to separate the hose from the nipple before pulling.
Great video. Thanks for just getting right to it and no bs. Your way is much easier. Again thanks for being right to the point.
Thanks for the nice comment . Some people get mad that 20 minutes is too long . I try to get all the info out but sometimes there’s a lot of talking too . Glad it was helpful have a good one !
Do you need to disconnect the battery before cleaning up the grounds?
Thanks, great video!
