Ep 23 - Marshall McLuhan, Videodrome, Peter Kingsley, WandaVision, Sit With It
"We have to be tricky to see through the tricks"
This episode explores the concept of the "Spectacle Machine" and its relationship to media, consciousness, and reality. It draws on the work of Marshall McLuhan, Peter Kingsley, and David Cronenberg, and many others. The discussion also explores the role of the "Divine Feminine" as a mediatrix or creator of the world, suggesting that the spectacle we perceive is a manifestation of a deeper, hidden reality.
Ultimately, the hosts explore the idea that the human body itself can be understood as the ultimate "Spectacle Machine," capable of both creating illusion and offering a path to true understanding.

Your video adds a lot to the understanding of this serie. Unfortunatelly not everyone is passionate about spirituality, psychology and so on. So thank you for that! I finished watching TP a few days ago, and I am of the opinion that the red room is the place "between life and death", like the title of the last episode of season 2. Cooper is in a endless loop. What happened with Caroline is haunting him. The pain and remorse for what happened (he says that it is his fault that she died), is the reason why he is so in to this case. Without realizing it, him wanting to save Laura, might be some kind of redemption that will free him from his guilt towards what happened to Caroline. Him falling in "love" with Annie proves it in my opinion. She resembles Caroline (Laura also does in some way, but Annie a lot more. COuld easly pass as her sister), and she attempted to unalive herself. She is like a pure child in a dark world. Like a little lamb that needs to be saved. His love towards Annie was not love. But his uncouscious desperate way to change the past. And this is also why he is stuck in this loop, because it seems that the events are not always the same. In some timeline Laura is dead, in others she just disappeared. Coop behin his smile hides a lot fo pain, and can't cut ties with the past. This why his obsession in saving Laura. It represents what we all felt at least once in our life. Regret because of the decisions me made, and the "what if things would have gone differently?" though. Having a hard time accepting the pastm, and the desperate wish to change it, instead of learning from it and try to create a better future. Hence why "the past makes the future" line (or something like that). Cooper was intelligent, but his pain made him blind, almost arorgant (not really in the most negative sense), not always taking the risk seriously. The serie, in my opinion, also shows that humans should stop trying to play god. Cooper desperate wanting to change the past, is like playing god. This is why he will always be stuck in this infinite loop, between life and death. I think the moment cooper entered the red room, he himself became the dreamer. At least at the end, it is him who is "dreaming", because he can not accept the past. But even if he is not dreaming and these things happened for real, then I really doubt he would be able to come out of the red room, in his time lime (if his time line is the one we see in the first 2 season). His real body doesn't exsists anymore. Because how I understood it, the one caming out of the red room end of season 2, was the real cooper possessed by Bob, not the evil doppelgänger. I always said, TP is more psychological rather than paranormal in my opinion.

Some good stuff here, but is still lacking. The problem is that your single frame of reference is rarely if ever supported by Lynch himself. Quotes and citations (often) make for a much more convincing thesis! One can just as well counter your 'divine feminine suppression' hypothesis with the (paradoxical, like much of reality) observation that is true in nearly every culture - young, healthy smart women are highly valued. Such a convergence of otherwise immutable (unearned , i.e. dealt by the 'stork') advantages it is, that they are both more protected AND gain welcome access to more sectors of society than any other sort of person. I'm not complaining, even a little, either! *What group anywhere **_doesn't_** want a young female intern or star player?* It's worth noticing that most men are treated as utterly expendable, so far as the financiers and natural selection is concerned.

    • @shaft9000

TL;DR Twin Peaks' purpose is also in other realm(s) of liberation, and it would do you well to better integrate what Frost and Lynch's goals and/or dreams consisted of. The books 'Room to Dream' , 'Lynch On Lynch' and 'TP: The Final Dossier' are good for this.

Frost admitted that they reworked the idea of Judy and when he found the concept of Joudy he went with that Joudy, it turns out, is also the name of an ancient entity in Sumerian mythology. (This dates back to at least 3000 B.C.) The name was used to describe a species of wandering demon-also generically known as an utukku-that had ‘escaped from the underworld’ and roamed freely throughout the earth, where they feasted on human flesh and, ripped the souls from their victims, which provided even more meaningful nourishment. They particularly thrived while feeding-and I quote-’on human suffering.’ These beings were said to appear in both male and female forms-’Joudy’ indicated the female, and the male was known as ‘Ba’al’-and, while they were considered beyond dangerous individually, if a male and a female ever united while on earth, the ancient texts claimed, their resulting ‘marriage’ would create something far more perilous. As in: the end of the world as we know it. A few centuries later, Ba’al becomes better known, in both Christian and Islamic sources, as ‘Beelzebub,’ a false god, or, as he’s known more generically today, the devil.” ― Mark Frost, Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier

@MorgMorg-uf6ps In my opinion, the feminine is presently overpowering the masculine. You have it backwards.

@@yayo3879 I would love to hear you explain how this is possible in a world that is quite literally ran by powerful men. With an increase in violence towards women and oppression currently happening… but the fact that you seem to think that one has to win over the other seems to say it all

hey Xavier, I hope you're well! I just wanted to ask if you ever explored the idea/archetype of Muhammad, I don't know anything about him and it's a religious icon I'm curious about as to what could be felt/explored when reflecting on him. Its a pretty out there question, I suppose, and I dont intend to become a muslim, just curious what your perspective would be on this particular figure.

Hey, that’s a great question, very relevant actually. For the past eight months or so, I’ve been diving into Islamic mysticism - including - but not exclusively, the work of Henry Corbin and Seyyed Hossain Nasr. Finishing up the Twin Peaks series led me straight to this direction. I’ve regretted that Islam (which means something like peaceful devoted submission to God) is a tradition that I have not referred to enough on this channel. In terms of Muhammad specifically, one thing I am fascinated about was his experience of being contacted by a divine being, and Muhammad transcribing what he was told. He was a Prophet in the traditional use of the term, speaking/writing on behalf of the divine, and doing so as a steward of a message from the lineage of Prophets going back to Abraham. The Quran, the message he transcribed, translates to something like “to recite” or “to read.” Muhammad’s role wasn’t as an incarnation of God like other figures we learn about in a world religions class, he is considered by Muslims to be a unique man specially chosen to transcribe a divine message. Most of what I’d like to say regarding Islamic mysticism in general I will share in two upcoming videos that I’m preparing now. The esoteric understanding of the Word of God found in some Islamic traditions will be playing a role in both upcoming videos. It has been a painfully slow process of creation as I sort out precisely what needs to be said. For now, you can check out the Magnolia video for some Islamic concepts, along with other related Jewish and Christian traditions. These same points will factor in the coming two videos to some extent. There are a lot of great videos on Islam and Islamic mysticism on the TH-cam channel Let’s Talk Religion.

Leary? Really? Leary and his work are insignificant. Leary himself was a drug infusing cia asset, ratting all out who were in contact with him.

I just want to say thank you for this series of videos. This has been the single greatest dissection of the ideas in Twin Peaks that I have ever seen, (and I've seen a lot.) So much that you go over in these videos I knew and felt on a subconscious level during my watchings and yet was unable to quite put them into words. Phenomenal work and research. Well done.

These videos hit the spot, I started my own spiritual journey not long after first watching Twin Peaks some time around 2018-2019. I had no idea what i had watched but in the undercroft of my being something woke up. I have since found myself on a journey i did not know i had embarked upon. I have since started looking into anything esoteric, along with other avenues of interest. Its not to say the other channels who have said their bit on the show are not true, like you mention there are many ways to see the totality of the show. But the way you broke the show down and delved into alot of the various esoteric themes for me, are most definitely what the show is based upon. Really great listen, found myself watching some of the vids twice in a row, good job and good vibes to you!
