Students as Independent Learners
“An independent learner is a person who does not learn because of an extrinsic reward or punishment. An independent learner is someone who has a high degree of self awareness and is able to have a long term view of her interests and aspirations and move towards that”, says Viraj Naidoo-Principal, The Peepal Grove School.
At The Peepal Grove School, the emphasis is on enhancing intrinsic motivation, sparking the innate curiosity of children and developing creativity and critical thinking. Children flourish in an atmosphere of trust and openness, where they are cared for, supported in their creative pursuits, and encouraged to develop their skills. This, we believe, transforms students into independent learners.

Wonderful video !! I am posting this comment not to advertise it but i have witnessed it in person. This particular people and school shaped my career and a form to my passion as a facilitator in the initial days which is crucial or else i would have been a normal teacher with no understanding of child and learning and would be lost in the corporate education where everything is money and bussiness Such wonderful things i noticed No complex curriculum Activity based learning Nature and child togetherness Every child has freedom to learn at their own pace The way the teacher and student address eachother peer learning happens effectively They try their best to not bring comparision between each child Their food time is energetic with lot of conversations between teacher and students encouraging bonding. Outdoor clasrooms are not a myth here they engage very effectively out of classrooms The most imp thing i feel here is the people just dont work here ..they are deep inside connected with some spark that always drives them..some call it sri M some call it his vision some call it as children . Such schools must be for every child .🙏

This is an institution which has set the precedent for future schools to follow. Through Sri M and the rest of the management, PGS’s philosophy is derived from the Upanishads… where the core value lies in the curiosity of the child to ask questions. Thank you for putting this video out there, the world needs to wake up and discover the uniqueness of being an individual that this school imbibes within itself.

The culture at PGS is far different, and in my opinion far better than other schools. The teacher-to-student relationship at PGS is more about enquiry and learning rather than only respecting authority - this happens in other schools, where learning takes a back seat.

A space so big, I could stretch my mind forever. Here I knew open learning and consideration. Here, my interest in birdwatching, nature and traditionality was nurtured. The values of kindness, connection, responsibility, and initiative among other niche lessons over time will remain with me always, as taught by teachers of diverse mindsets, for which I am immensely grateful.

People grow, when the mind grows. In the midst of nature, unfettered by the pressures of modern constructs, stimulated by the right inputs… curiosity is kindled, creativity ignited and learning happens. This in essence is my understanding of the process at the ‘Peepal Grove School’. It’s been heartening to see it’s growth and evolution over the years! Excited to see it spreading its wings ready to soar! 👍🏽
