I get they wanted to tone down Grievous so he didn't be vader 2.0, but honestly if George was smart, he could have seen that as a parallel to Luke's plight at the end of empire, it genuinely could have worked. Imagine if Anakin was the one to fight Grievous on Utapau, after finally just seeing him after all this build up when rescuing Chancellor Palpatine, building up on that dynamic culminating into want to be the one to take him down and end the clone wars, leaving his training to fight him when he's not ready, choosing the quick and easy path and ultimately becoming an agent of evil.

Shaak Ti was not picked because ALL of the masters that went were considered to be superior to her, by her own judgement as well as Windu's. Plo Koon is unlikely to last longer than Fisto did as he is no where near as quick and would likely fail to block more than a single strike from Sidious. If Yoda was there I'd actually keep Fisto and add Obi Wan. Fisto showed ability to contend with Sidious briefly and was quick enough to block multiple strikes before dying. Obi Wan could do similar, with Yoda able to help protect them and Windu given more time to channel his Vapaad. Yoda and Windu are the key players but Fisto and Kenobi could potentially help by giving Sidious 2 more jedi to contend with that he cannot easily one shot. Though many Jedi were off world, they did suspect that Sidious may be on Coruscant and intentionally kept Kolar, Tiin and Fisto on world with Windu in case of Sidious being there. Yoda's absence was partly intended to lure him out. Kolar in particular was personally selected because they thought he, along with Windu, were the best choices. Fisto and Tiin were added for overkill by Windu.

Imagine replacing 90% of your body with cybernetic augmentations to specifically improve your competence as a warrior and death dealer, only to be beaten by children an bipedal frogs.

hard to argue with the idea that he was changed to differentiate himself from darth vader, you could replace 2003 grievous with vader in all his scenes and it would make sense, I mean no wonder we liked him so much ( I dont disagree hes a bit to weak in the clone wars tho)

It's a take on Inquisitor Starkiller; the name Marrok is extremely similar to Galen "Marek," and the lightsaber style, along with Sam Witwer playing him is just way too much of a coincidence. Filoni knew what he was doing, paying homage to Starkiller indirectly.

I swear, ever since Revenge of the Sith, Grievous became this generic, cartoony, power rangers villain that speaks evil lines. As someone who isn’t a Star Wars Fan, but grew up around the same time the Prequel Trilogy was popular (and was hated), i really don’t understand why General Grevious (a character introduced in a webtoon where he’s such a badass) just becomes a joke later on. I can understand why Star Wars fans of the 80s & 90s hated how the Prequel Trilogy ruined Boba Fett & Anakin… but Grevious’ change is just for the worst.

If we are assuming "fair fight" meaning no handicaps on either side (Meaning Anakin isn't emotionally compramised) i think it would actually be an Anakin victory, but only margionally As you've said Obi-Wan is a pure defensive duelist compared to Anakin's pure offence. However Anakin is willing to go for kill shots more than Obi-Wan is and is definatley willing to tap into the dark side Obi-Wan would put up a solid defence for a good long while, Anakin would eventually start tapping more into the dark side using that to fuel his attacks and basically overwhelm obi-wan with brute strength and offense. Not saying the guard would fall completly but it would definatley buckle and start to break Something to note that is that Anakin and Obi-Wan do also have other lightsaber forms in their aresnal. Obi orginally used Ataru pre knighthood and Anakin has Ataru as well. And a basic understanding of Soresu Anakin being the kinda person he is would def try to throw Obi-Wan off by randomly throwing in a move that isn't part of Djem-So. It wouldn't surprise me if he broke out something from Juyo or Vaapad. I personally don't know if he ever studied those in general

I honestly think that the budget limitations for 3d animation for the clone wars series in terms of cost and time is what really nerfed grievous, you simply have more flexibility and freedom in those two areas to really showcase and emphasize how dangerous of an enemy he was in the 2003 version…. I imagine the studio trying to balance what is capable with the resources and time available. I think that might have had some influence on the revenge of the sith as well.

Don’t forget what duku told grievous “stop using the standard attacks use the un orthodox.” “Control my center line” “don’t let your pursuit of trinkets cloud reality. If you’re to succeed in combat against the Jedi you must have fear surprise and intimidation on your side and if you lack even one of those you might as well retreat” so in that sence he is doing as commanded also you can’t forget he has had his lungs crushed by mace windoo thus showing the Jedi he is detestable thus taking away the fear aspect

I think the reason TCW Grievous got nerfed was to prolong the series. If he was depicted accurately, the only Jedi left would be Obi Wan, Anakin, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, and Yoda because Grievous would have killed the rest.

I love how ruthless and brutal he is in the novels. He targeted civilians on purpose to divert attention away from his forces and even threatened to execute Palpatine live on the holonet if his demands weren’t met. There’s an excerpt from Labyrinth of Evil that mentions some Jedi found clone troopers and Jedi that had been slaughtered by Grievous on Geonosis in the catacombs. Their wounds were so grotesque that the Jedi weren’t able to determine a probable cause of death, assuming it was caused by a beast or a fully charged geonosian sonic blaster. This was before Grievous got his lightsabers. He literally tore them limb from limb with his hands. Even after his cybernetic transformation he’s retained some of his honour from his tribal life as he grants Jedi an honourable death through combat. Combined with his sympathetic backstory, parallels to Vader, tactical and strategic genius and fighting prowess, he’s a fantastic villain. Legends Grievous (2003, LoE, ROTS Novel, Eyes of Revolution, Unknown Soldier) is the best incarnation of the character. Utterly wasted.

One other thing that I also hate about the Clone Wars is how Dooku is portrayed. In the films he is a charismatic, Tragic charakter. He's a real gentlemen... In the Clone Wars he just has no charakter. He's just poor Evil. And thats it

The power scaling BS continues. The transitive property does not apply to lightsaber duels. Just because Anakin beat Dooku, and Obi-Wan beat Anakin, that does not mean Obi-Wan could’ve beat Dooku. In fact, he lost to Dooku pretty regularly. There are so many variables that simply can’t be accounted for. Perhaps Marrok’s fighting style was simply a good counter to Ahsoka’s. Whereas Ahsoka was able to take advantage of holes in the other Inquisitors’ defenses, perhaps Marrok’s style left no such obvious holes in his defenses. Or perhaps Ahsoka had a bad fever that day. Or maybe Marrok had snorted a line right before. We don’t know.

My first impression of the Vader hallway scene when watching it in theaters is that these rebel troopers don’t stand a chance. But they barely got the Death Star plans away from Vader

It's tragic that it took 20 years for Filoni to realise that he and Lucus made the wrong decision in nerfing Grievous. TotE Grievous is exactly what we wanted from Grievous, but Filoni, I'm sad to say you were too little too late.

Grievous was heavily nerfed for the revenge of the sith - from a writers perspective to not make him overshadow vader in the movies, in universe because he just survived being crushed like a tin can with the force in 2003 clone wars. Unfortunately, later variations used his nerfed version as a baseline instead of as the nerf it was.

The debate about Mace and Palpatine still exists, but that doesn't really mean it should. Lucas already said that Mace won, even if the fight choreography was bad. Besides, Palpatine has never been shown to take unnecessary risks.

I disagree that Drallig would be a better pick than Shaak Ti. Shaak Ti is a beast, both her performances against Grievous weren't bad. On Hypori, she was only outperformed by Mundi and during the battle of Coruscant she performed even better. If you use TFU as a source, she became even more powerful after the Jedi purge. Drallig - despite being the Battlemaster - has no notable feats in any source. For Shaak Ti, we have at least legends feats we can refer to and they are quite impressive. But let's be fair: without plot armor, every combination of 4 council masters might have been enough (not sure about Stass Allie, though). Kolar was considered to be one of the only Jedi who would be able to beat the Sith lord in combat. People tend to discard him because of his death where he wasn't even able to strike once. But that's more poor execution than poor skills.

People tend to overrate Legends Grievous. Of course, he is far better than the canon version. But even there Dooku tells him that he needs the right circumstances to be able to compete with the best of the Jedi, otherwise his attempt is futile. Hypori was a very special case where the Republic just had a devastating loss, they fought for a very long time, were exhausted and demoralized. Grievous had the perfect chance for his psychological warfare. Later, when he fought Moudama and Corobb, he has a much harder time defeating them. Of course, there are claims that both of them were highy skilled swordmasters. But I doubt that they were on council master level. I think without the right circumstances, Grievous would be at a disadvantage against most council members. Which doesn't mean he would lose against all of them. But it would be harder than people might think.

For the wild card I feel like if padme was waiting for anakin he would not have turned to the dark side (nor was he angry enough to force choke her)
