Does a 2nd gen Tundra need a Trans Cooler. I installed the Scangauge3 to monitor my temps as I tow my Airstream across the country. It looks like I'll be getting a trans cooler.

Best Towing Half Ton Ever - Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8

Ram 1500, Sierra/Siverado 1500, Titan, F150, even 3rd generation Tundra...I dare you to disagree that the 2nd generation Tundra with 5.7L engine, 4.30 rear axle, and a 38 gallon fuel tank is the most efficient towing half-ton with the best range and the greatest reliability,

Tundra Long Start Fix with out Changing Flex Fuel Pump

2018 Tundra has had Long start/crank problem each of the past two years. I think it is a fuel problem, not the fuel pump. ECU does not need to be flashed either. Hope this helps someone else.

This channel is stupid.. just because YOU have been doing something doesn't make what others say stupid. LT tires ARE best for towing. You have had good luck with P rated, but that doesn't mean everyone will. geezus, talk about a stupid comment!
I’m towing my airstream to Alaska so maybe an E load tire is a good compromise?
How much can it tow comfortably, looking for a truck to tow for the fair circuit in the summer.
My 3.0l duramax LZ0 gets 28-30mpg through the city and 16mpg towing 10,000lbs, 24 gallon tank isn’t an issue at all. Just wish the DEF consumption was better while towing.
The scuffs in the interior are just the facts of life when it comes to having a black interior. I’m getting a black/black limited from a man in Decatur. And I’m a Toyota guy. I also have a Camry as a commuter car, and my wife has a 4Runner.
The reason airbags should be separate is when the truck leans, all the air from one bag gets pushed into the other airbag, basically acting like you have nothing there, giving no support on the side being compressed. With your setup and the rear sway bar it is not an issue for you, but trucks hauling a heavy, tall load in the bed such as a bed mounted camper, the airbags cannot be teed together.
For 5 years and 120k miles, it looks like a new truck
Geez and I thought my old lady bitches alot!
As the son a NSA pioneer aerospace engineer, thank you for this video cuz you explained this like my father would have explained this. And while I understand what you said in the video I'm going to watch a couple of more times so that it sinks in! It's that good.
I have 19 5.7 V8 SR5 4X4 without the upgrade package so it has the smaller tank. This really bugs me so I was thinking of trading it in for a new tundra. The guy at the dealer was honest and said don’t do it lol.
YOU ARE ON VACTION! What is your hurry? 55 will get you there safety.
Thanks for sharing the location on my way to yellowstone i never done boondocking is going be my frist time.
Yup 2020 tundra one of the all time best trucks made ever!
Bought my brand new 2021 in 2020 45k miles. Keeping it forever. Mine came with a transmitting cooler from factory
Great video. I feel much more confident now. I have a 1/2 ton 08 silverado 5.3l 2wd, gonna be towing a 30ft 7,700lb camper in august. I put a bigger trans cooler in it. I dont think I'll have any problems towning from maryland to pennsylvania.
If Nissan is getting out of the Truck business I would not want to buy one now.
Great explanation video with results included for an apples to apples comparison.
So, if the Nissan is so great, remove the fuel tank and build a custom one as big as you can. Or add a second, custom, tank.
It is disheartening we have become such a cynical, glass half-empty society. I question the motivation to publish a “doom and gloom” opinion without supporting facts and without knowing the planned solution. Why is it that we hold others to a higher standard than we hold ourselves?
Did you ever consider the Roadmaster Active Suspension system instead of airbags? If you did, what led you to choosing the Firestone airbags instead? We have a 2018 Tundra CrewMax Limited towing a Lance 2375 -- or at least attempting to, once we sort out the rear end squat and weight distribution. My wife and I have been told, "There's no way your truck can tow that trailer," and we point to your channel as proof it can be done. Thanks for the inspiration!
I have a 36 gallon tank in my 2016 f150 2.7ecoboost. tows like a champ. I think you said the 36 gallon was only available in upper trims and that's not so. It available in any f150 as far as I know.
Thank you
I recently bought a 2021 SR5 TRD Sport Crew Cab, just curious how did you do the rear seat understorage install and which understorage compartments did you buy? Thanks for the great content!!
Lippert frames. I feel like if you have the weight distributed correctly, you should not need the use of a WDH or a sway bar??
Have you done a video / analysis on what a weight distribution hitch can do adding pressure to a frame say on a small toy hauler with a leopard frame and causing failure. And possibly sway bars adding to that also. There are reports and videos on how they have caused failure on some frames typically the smaller toy haulers like a wolf pup or a gray wolf
Today at 179,000 miles my most expensive repair was made in my 2007 Tundra SR5 with 5.7L engine - the air diverters on the AC quit working. $1200 fixed it. Only prior repair was at 60k miles - water pump. $700 fixed it. That’s it over the past 17 years. Otherwise routine maintenance.
How did you get the underseat storage? I have a 2021 Tundra Crew Max and I don't see how you can add the underseat storage? Am I missing something? Please let me know. Thanks for the great content. Love your truck!!
Did you install a Transmission Cooler ? 2019-21 Doesn’t have one Towing 7000 lbs im assuming it would b necessary ?
Not yet, did one long trip without it, might do one more before making the switch. Haven't seen any transmission failures yet?
I have The Michelin LTX ms also on my 19 SRS Crew TRD Good longevity and decent in the snow I tow 1-3 Snowmobiles and TRD off road pkg comes with heated seats in Hockey Country. Keep the V8 boys Shes a big sexy strong girl ☮️❤️🇨🇦
Ty for the video/Info, I occasionally have long starts (only) after filling up. Live in STX and cold days are few. When the code came up, I changed out the PCV valve . May try Canister next. 2014 SRD 320K
Changed PCV valve and didn't seem to make difference.
What is second generation as I’m looking for a tundra previously owned…
Prefer the Tundra Running boards that are on mine No gaps
Best V8 on market proven reliability
Same guy after towing with the twin turbo. "yeah anyway guys, so I went with the new model...."
Companies striving for mileage is BS. THESE ARE TRUCKS, NO ONE is getting top mileage when toweing. They should go back to big iron and prices would drop and engines would last. I just bought a 2003 chevy pu with 100k and it will last forever
The V6 is underrated. It is only 20 ft lbs torque less of the 4.8. I tow a 14,000 5th wheel in Fla but dont go over 50mph and no hills. Dont drive more than 10 miles a day. Runs fine. If I go long distance I would upgrade to a 2500 truck. I saw a post from a highway inspector and he said ratings dont mean a thing. Its all about the tire ratings. IF you are within tire load ratings you are good. 15-- and 2500 are the same axle and truck. Just shocks and springs
Should of never had engines manufactured in Mexico!!
????? They're not, Alabama and Japan
The major problems you’re referring to is because these new trucks are made in the USA. If they were made and went through JDM there wouldn’t be any issues.
Not buying that, last gen was made in USA
Will be interesting to see how the new drivetrain in the 4Runners and Tacomas do…
That was informative and simple Tku
glad it helped
Thanks for the info and how you plan evolving your "new to me" Tundra. Since 2014 it's been an aspiration to get one of these trucks (was before $35K + new) but the $ priority did not justify it. Now retired and kids out, finally bought a 2020 SR5 premium + TRD OR package upgrades last week. Was gunning for 2018-2021 black, leather seats, and "Nanny" TRD Pro but these are very hard to find nationwide and if one comes out it gets sold fast. With your video, I realize I'm very luck with this 23k miles, first owner Black 2020 Tundra, though short of what I always wanted.
Awesome truck, congratulations! One of the few vehicles that is never likely disappoint you
do you think the alpine would be able to read car info from a 2012 tundra? Or can it only read that info on newer models?
should read the OBD2 just fine
I just bought a 2018 1794 smoked mesquite with 21,000 miles one owner. I had a 2019 platinum black on black before and sold it, that was a dumb move. Glad to be back in a Tundra. I went 2018 because last year of cooler and I did not want a 2021 after covid. All are great trucks and a last of the best. Hopefully Toyota gets things figured out on the new V6. Love yours great call!
I think if you are over payload, then you are wrong. You are towing over the gross vehicle weight rating.
I won't argue with you, just ask a question. What about going 37 mph in a 35?
I came to see how to release the window controls, its the only part you skipped!
Sorry man, try not to make it to long. I just pop them off with leverage from my fingers. There is a little groove toward the front of the controls where you can place a little plastic pry tool and it will come right off.
@@kedrevs4037 When I pulled it out like you did, it was easy, so it did help! I was taking the entire panel off for sound deadening. Thanks for the video.
Tfl truck it was the 1500 RST CHEVY. 6.2 V8. They can’t tow at high elevation at the max tow rating. Less air means less power. More stress on engine and hot day.
I have a 2018 with 144337 love it. Put air bags on mine. I dont squatting. And the factory dual exhaust. Love the v8 sound
Where did you get that display unit?
This is insanely bad advice. Manufacturers test their tires for max speed and (what you didn't mention) heat. Think TPMS. Going faster pushes air under your rig like a race car, keeping in thought the height of your rig. Slowing down reduces the up force that traveling faster will induce. If you want to 'draft' a semi, that's ok, but in a crosswind situation can be deadly. Going faster in a windy environment is just reckless.
What video did you watch? It wasn't this one.
