I've lived here 18+ years, and I can assure you that you went about this all wrong. From personal experience, more than half the people on the street in town, are there for a reason. That includes illegal activities. Nimbin has a tourist appeal, and many locals are simply trying to take advantage of one of our few resources. Basically, they're mostly just trying to get by. It's hard enough selling anything on the street as even someone like Tedi (who you interviewed) is selling his perfectly legal goods without the required permit. Then just imagine if you are trying to sell simply cookie's to tourists? The charge is worse than cannabis! Then add all the street cameras likned live to both Nimbin and Lismore Police stations, content creators, suspicious looking (clearly not a local, as locals know most locals) new people walking around with cameras, and paranoia easily goes into overdrive. Then add past bad experiences of accidental exposure to someone's illegal activity on social media, it's no wonder a few locals get angry when a camera is randomly in their face. Remember paranoia? It causes some people to act unreasonably. In summary, yes you're a dickhead. I can say that because I can do dickhead moves myself, but if you came to town with no camera recording, sat down with the locals, and began to talk, maybe had a joint or beer, bought something, tried coming across as friendly. I am sure that you'd have received a far less hostile response. I personally know at least a dozen people who are uniquely interesting, that would have loved to taken part in a TH-cam video, promoting Nimbin in a inquisitive yet positive light. Maybe "Don't go trying to make a documentary about Nimbin without first doing some proper research on how to" ?? I do know that many locals have seen both reporters and content creators leave only to make a video, or television segment that pokes fun at, mocks, or show Nimbin or its people poorly.

Went through Nimbin during the bollocks . . they 'woke' in pub pretty much told me to jump in lake when would't write name in book contact trace . . just to eat a pie . . very strident in lock step to comply with those that want their families to die . . thin veneer free thinkers . . in bulk buck stupid stoners without a clue

Thanks very much for creating and uploading this video. I visited the wreck in the late 70s, and still have pictures I took using a 126 Kodak cartridge camera ... not a 35mm SLR, LOL! The vegetation was a lot clearer around the fuselage back then. Your video reminded me of the walk, especially the steep bit towards the end. There's a plaque somewhere there too, listing the names of the people on board. A few months after visiting the wreck I got to see the other end of Mt. Superbus, near the end of a North-to-South Main Range walk which started at Cunningham's Gap and ended at Teviot Gap. I still have the topo maps from that trip. :)

To share something in my experience, I visited Nimbin in 2015 for the MardiGrass and, the people just love their way of off grid living. I found it quite incredible, seemed most folk were content as well.

Went there for the first time 20 years ago. Ten seconds out of the car, a scumbag was hassling me to buy heroine. Had a coffee surrounded by open dope deals by sketchy loosers at the tables. Drove through there for the 2nd and last tme two years later to see if it had been napalmed. Disappointment is an understatement.

I really enjoyed the show. Your not a dick head, no one is. I think that the lady at the end living her best life, Nimbin is were she fits. If anything odd people ( I am odd it is cool for me). Society needs odd, it seems the odds are we need them.

Spent a long time up that way. I was married to a girl from Alstonville. Over twenty years I went to Nimbin 3 times. First time a bloke collapsed on me in the street. I got asked by every second person if I was "right for a smoke". The last time, I didn't even get out of the car before a little kid on a bike tried to sell me drugs. I can't stand that place.

I think this is useful for film students, it highlights the most important aspect of documentary making - access. The more sensitive the topic the harder it is to attain. People take years building relationships and building trust to make real documentaries. Making a film with substance requires more than a facebook message and 4 days. You need to know your subject, research, have a driving question, identify characters and potential storylines, spend time with the subject or in this case the community.. all before turning your camera on. Content for youtube however, well that's made by doing what you did. Still an interesting piece however because you were prepared to be honest and I enjoyed watching your struggle to make the film.

Went up by several different routes over the years. I was constantly shocked by the number of ill equipped, ignorant and unfit people who caused police and volunteers to expend considerable time and effort rescuing them. Shout out to Scenic Rim State Emergency Service..

Oh wow! I'm a long time local... On behalf of my community, I almost feel like writing you an apology letter. Btw, Pretty sure I know what was going on for you there... You might even laugh if you knew. I'd explain, but you'd need a local history lesson to understand why we're often a bit camera shy around here. Sadly, not too long ago - you could've rocked up to town, introduced yourself and your intentions and you would have had people lining up to tell you their stories and share some of our history.
