I have a 590 and I dremeled the feeding port because the sides were cutting into me when I reloaded. SO I got it to where its pretty open and super smooth around the edges, when reloading I rotate the weapon clockwise with my right hand and load two at a time with my left It takes a while to learn the tenique since its not a semi auto but it can be done fast.

I've stuck with Midwest & BCM for all my AR furniture needs. I don't mind my handguard being a bit heavier for qualities sake. I'm very curious what handguard brand you covered up though. I think it's important to point out lesser brands so others don't make the mistake of purchase. Also, why would you ever mount anything optic related anywhere near the handguard? You're just asking for zeroing issues as well as a pain if you ever want to remove your handguard for whatever reason.
