Fishing Barrett Lake for Bass and Big Bluegill
Hi Everybody. Decided to take a break from the mountains and head out for some float tubing. I try to go bass fishing once a year...usually I get on a boat but decided to change it up this year. First time fishing Barrett and it didn't disappoint. Thanks for watching!

Hiking and Fishing a New Lake in Bishop Creek Canyon 2024
มุมมอง 1K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Hi Everybody. Decided to explore a new lake up in the Bishop Creek Canyon. I had heard it contained fun sized brook trout, so I decided to check it out. Had pretty good action on my bamboo fly rod and tenkara rod. Really pretty area and decent weather. Would have been perfect if it was 10 degrees cooler haha.

If you've followed me for the last few years you know I like going up to the Cottonwood Lakes area to gear check for the season. Since Cottonwood Lakes 1-4 are closed to fishing until Sept, that leaves some of the surrounding lakes as the goto places. I haven't been up to these lakes in a few years and was pleasantly surprised. Got to use my new Nissin Zerosum 7:3 Tenkara rod as well.

Hi All, this is my first international fishing trip for 2024. I've been waiting for this trip for almost a year and it didn't disappoint. The primary target was Permit but there was plenty of action. The weather couldn't have been any better (other than it was super humid haha) but I can't complain. Amazing location, Kay Fly Lodge - Punta Allen, MX, and great people. Can't wait to go back.

Hi Everybody! It’s been a minute since I posted a video. Mainly because my trips have been primarily night fishing and my big trip to Seattle was canceled due to a polar vortex. Anyways decided to give float tubing a try and had a blast. Gave me Some much needed exercise as well haha.

Decided to try one more camping trip for 2023. I saw the weather was going to be warmer than usual so that was good enough for me. (Luckily I brought my winter gear though). Ended up catching a golden/hybrid in the south fork of the kern river. I had heard rumors of the DFG stocking them there and it ended up true! Pretty cool you can catch sizable Goldens without having to trek too far. Thanks...

Little Lakes Valley is located across from Crowley. What makes it special is you start out at elevation. So it doesn't take much effort to get to the "backcountry". There are A TON of lakes with fish up there as well. This trip, I decided to bring my tenkara and trout spey rod...so lots of action and scenery.

Can’t believe it’s September and this is only my 2nd backpacking trip. The twenty lakes basin has been in my radar for awhile and finally decided to make the drive. First Golden Trout fishing trip of 2023
มุมมอง 42211 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've mentioned before there was a record amount of snow that fell last winter. Which pretty much meant snow was still on the ground well into August. That isn't really a huge deal given the level of backpacking I do...but I also didn't want to do with sketchy creek crossings. One of my favorite meadows to visit was finally snow free. It also makes for a great warmup trip since it's a short flat...

Hi Everybody. This was my yearly trip to Parchers Resort. What made this trip different was it was right in the middle of the runoff from the wettest winter in recent cali history. How active are the Apache trout in late July, and do monsoons affect them?

    • @newflyfishingodyssey
      @newflyfishingodyssey 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not an expert but they should behave like all other high mountain trout. If the water temp goes too high that's usually the only thing. But unlikely up there. Monsoons won't do much other than mess with water clarity. More of a problem for you if you're caught in one.

    Is this the Kennedy Meadows campground at the end of Windy Springs Road ?? The trail you hiked to the river, is this the Pacific Trail trailhead that runs thru the campground??? Motocamped (motorcycle) a few years ago on July 4th weekend. Amazing, barely 1/4-1/3 campsites in use whereas Fish Creek and Troy Meadows were full to capacity with the rowdy off-road crowd. Long Lake in bishop pass prob has slightly bigger ones. But I don’t think any of the lakes in those areas are known trophy brookie lakes. Maybe one of those labeled fish less in little lakes could have some holdover that has no competition.

    • @newflyfishingodyssey
      @newflyfishingodyssey 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The one I used here was an opst 9ft 9in 3wt. I bought it for backpacking so it needed to be around 10ft and a 3wt. Surprisingly that isn’t a super common combination. I tried taking an 11ft 4wt up before and it was a little too bulky.

    • @chowboy44
      @chowboy44 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@newflyfishingodyssey yeah from the research that ive done, it seems you double the weight of the rod to the pound fish you plan on catching....so a 2 wt=4lb fish, 3=6lb fish and so on. I know im not lucky enough to catch a golden any bigger than 6 so a 3wt would be perfect... thanks for the response, a bit too much for a b/c rod for me tho...Ill probably end up with the echo sr...thanks for the response bud. Good luck this good season

    what happens when you break your leader off, do you retry a new leader on thewelded loop? and also is it ok to use floating line for lake fishing?

    • @newflyfishingodyssey
      @newflyfishingodyssey 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually they don’t break the whole leader. So you just tie one more tippet to make up the lost length. Lake fishing really depends on how deep they are feeding. If you see a lot of surface feeding or cruisers, floating line is fine. You can fish deeper by getting a sinking tip that attaches to your loop. If the water is pretty clear you can actually get them to come up from deeper than you expect.
